200 Ship Special Part 3: Top 10 Favorite Ships

When it comes to these things, I never usually have favorites. When you're so invested in so many romantic stories, it becomes incredibly difficult to choose a favorite or even try to figure out if you have a favorite to begin with. It all just seems to blend together at some points, helping form who you are as a person. But I'm gonna try anyway. First, the honorable mentions.
______________________________________________
Honorable Mentions
-Asta x Noelle Silva (Black Clover)
—Probably would have made the 11th spot if that was a thing.

-Superman/Clark Kent x Wonder Woman/Diana Prince (SuperWonder) [DC Comics]
—Was actually a really, really good relationship when it was canon in the New 52. It's just that no one had the balls to go through with it.

-Gajeel Redfox x Levy McGarden (Gajevy) [Fairy Tail]
—Truthfully? It's the only ship that matters in Fairy Tail, but not my favorite.

-Sonic the Hedgehog x Blaze the Cat (Sonaze) [Sonic the Hedgehog]
—The lack of canon evidence outside of a few scenes prevents it from escaping the honorable mentions.

-Izuku Midoriya x Ochako Uraraka (Izuocha) [My Hero Academia]
—It's super adorable and all, but you guys should know what my favorite MHA ship is at this point.

-Brendan x May (Hoennshipping) [Pokémon]
—It was a serious tossup between this and Lightsunshipping, but I ended up choosing the one with a bigger impact on the plot.

-Naruto Uzumaki x Hinata Hyuga (Naruhina) [Naruto]
—No lie, this probably would've tied with Asta x Noelle if there was an eleventh place.

-Ulquiorra Cipher x Orihime Inoue (Ulquihime) [Bleach]
—The perfect tragic ship. Fight me.

-Callum x Rayla (Rayllum) [The Dragon Prince]
—It might've made the list if there was just a bit more buildup to it and didn't feel quite so rushed.

-Jaune Arc x Weiss Schnee (WhiteKnight) [RWBY]
—Barely lost out in favor of DragonSlayer.

And with that out of the way, let's get into my top ten ships of all time!

Top 10 Favorite Ships of All Time

10: Shadow the Hedgehog x Rouge the Bat (Shadouge) [Sonic the Hedgehog]

What a ship to start things off, huh? It wasn't gonna be Sonaze due to lack of canon evidence, so it has to be this one. Unlike other ships in the Sonic franchise, Shadouge could actually have a pretty good story to match up with the relationship. There's certainly enough evidence for it.

Heck, I know we don't like talking about it, but Sonic 06, for all of its plot holes, actually told a pretty decent story to keep up with the continuity of the games, and the relationship between Team Dark (specifically Shadow and Rouge) was one of the highlights, with Rouge vowing to never turn her back on Shadow, even if the entire world does.

Unfortunately, it was due to Sonic 06's failure that Sega thought "No, this franchise doesn't need actual clever storytelling! That was one of the big failures of this game!", and proceeded to never tell interesting Sonic stories ever again. It's sad, especially when not even fanfiction can save any of this... but oh well, it was good while it lasted. At least we have the comics.

9: Guts x Casca (Gutsca) [Berserk]

I originally considered just leaving this section with just a mass of indistinguishable letters, as that is what it feels like when you finish the Golden Age Arc of Berserk, but I figured it's high time to talk about this again.

It's a bit of a tragic relationship. While they both survive after Griffith's betrayal, they got out of it completely scarred, with unspeakable horrors happening to and around Casca, Guts having to powerlessly watch, and only now, after these long years, does Casca actually show signs of regaining her sanity.

I don't know how to go into detail on their relationship, all I can do is recommend Berserk and witness it yourselves. But be warned of two things: One, it is not for the faint of heart, so be prepared. And two... just... just don't watch 2016 Berserk... It's not worth it whatsoever...

8: Jaune Arc x Yang Xiao Long (DragonSlayer) [RWBY]

I live in a constant switching state of "I like DragonSlayer the most" and "I like WhiteKnight the most", but DragonSlayer has admittedly better fanfiction, so let's go with that.

Let's get this straightened out first: the only reason this ship is so low is because of my low opinion on the show it spawned from. If anything, I ship this out of pure spite, because I believe this is a plausible direction the show could've taken, but didn't. A perfect opportunity to show growth between two characters who desperately needed it was completely squandered.

Jaune's character has been influenced by a grand total of two people, Pyrrha and Ruby (the latter to a lesser extent). I guess you could stretch that statement and say three because of Ozpin, but the only reason Jaune has beef with Oz is because of Pyrrha. The fact that he's still hung up over it has gotten grating to the point that whenever Pyrrha is brought up, my eyes roll over into the back of my head in annoyance.

Yang's character has also been influenced by a grand total of two people, Blake and Ruby (the latter to a lesser extent... again). And it is due to that lack of influence from the latter that sums up my problems with her. I can almost guarantee you that people have almost forgotten that Yang and Ruby are sisters. All of Yang's "development" has gone into her relationship with Blake, which has almost never been interesting in the slightest.

Jaune and Yang have experienced traumatic events that they tried to prevent and failed. It's a similarity that is never capitalized on in canon, and it is left up to fanfiction authors to fix, and it's done rather well in those regards. That's the only reason this ship is getting on this list in the first place.

It still amazes me that Black Clover, a show with over a dozen members of the main cast, uses the "Found Family" trope better than RWBY tries to do, a show whose main members total around only a half of that.

7: Sun x Lillie (Lightsunshipping) [Pokémon]

The only reason this is here and not Hoennshipping is simply due to the impact it has on the plot. While both have an equal amount of content to back up their validity, Lightsunshipping became one of the only pairings in Pokémon I ship that isn't "main guy x main girl" for a reason.

Lillie's entire character arc is one of the highlights of Sun and Moon. And while she hasn't exactly gotten the chance to complete it fully, the fact that it is there in the first place is great. She witnessed Sun fight all of her battles for her, and when her mother unveiled her evil plan, Lillie had finally had enough of being weak, changing her looks and striving to get stronger.

In a way, it kinda reminds me of Naruhina (Naruto x Hinata from Naruto), where the girl is inspired by the guy to grow stronger. Unfortunately, the reason this ship gets so low is because of the aforementioned unfinished character arc. If only Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were actual sequels, then you might be reading a different story.

6: Link x Zelda (Zelink) [Legend of Zelda]

It's been a long time, old friend. Let's dig up some good memories. While nostalgia begs me to rank this ship much higher, I couldn't bring myself to put it above the next entries.

This ship was my first hyper-fixation. Without this ship, I would probably be a very different person than I am today. There's just too much to go over with this one that I'll revisit it later on down the line is this book. There's just too much to go over.

5: Edward Elric x Winry Rockbell (Edwin) [Fullmetal Alchemist]

This, in my opinion, is one of the single best romances ever put into media. It's got everything. Great buildup, they're childhood friends, there's no true obstacles that block them from getting together, they're both basically tsunderes, and many other tropes that I just can't think of off the top of my head.

So, why is it only halfway down the list? Well, it's simple: I just happen to like the next four more. Don't get me wrong, I love Edwin to pieces, but opinions are subjective. Just know that in terms of storytelling, this is the best ship, followed closely by the Number Two spot. It's also one of the three ships on this list that is officially canon at this point in time. So there.

4: Shoto Todoroki x Momo Yaoyorozu (Todomomo) [My Hero Academia]

And here it is! As much as I love the pure fluff that is Izuocha, there's only so much sweetness I can take before I start to gag. Todomomo just has a more interesting story behind it and more interesting possibilities that can spawn from it. It may also be the case that I don't like Deku as much as I used to, but I'd probably put Todomomo here regardless.

While there aren't too many moments outside of the "I voted for you" moment, it's all in the context and concept. We've gotten crumbs ever since that moment, and some of the joy I get from shipping this is watching the fujoshi who just insist that Todoroki is gay get mad, but that doesn't weaken my love for it. The concept is enough and there's enough evidence to come to the conclusion that these two will end up together in the end.

3: Damian Wayne x Raven (Damirae) [DCAMU]

Fun fact, this ship was originally at number seven on this list. And then Justice League Dark: Apokolips War came out and the ship immediately jumped up to number three. How?

Honestly, it's a bit too much to go over at this point in time.  Just know that this ship turned out to be one of the best romances DC has ever done, and it better not get retconned when the DCAMU returns. I'll discuss it more in a remade chapter when we get there.

2: Natsu Dragneel x Lucy Heartfilia (Nalu) [Fairy Tail]

You know something? I fully expected this to be at the Number One spot on this list. After all, it was the first ship I made a chapter in this book for that simply said "No explanation needed." And it really doesn't. Nalu is just one of those "duh" ships, and even if you don't like it too much, you just kinda have to accept it due to how much evidence there is for it.

I'm saving my full thoughts on it for its own remade chapter, but just know that I hold this ship in very high regard and you will have to pull it from my cold, dead hands.

1: Ichigo Kurosaki x Rukia Kuchiki (Ichiruki) [Bleach]

Surprised? So am I... When it comes to these things, I never usually have favorites. When you're so invested in so many romantic stories, it becomes incredibly difficult to choose a favorite or even try to figure out if you have a favorite to begin with. It all just seems to blend together at some points, helping form who you are as a person. Which is why this ship surprised me so much when I realized just how much I loved it.

Ichigo and Rukia are soulmates, at least in my headcanon. Whether that is romantic or platonic is up to you. Their destinies were intertwined, and if they had never met, we never would've had the amazing story that was Bleach. My personal favorite of the Shonen Big 3. My love for this ship cannot be fully expressed, but I'll try.

Sometimes I try to think of a bond that's beautiful enough to make me crave love and understand what it really looks like and make me realise that I've been doing it all wrong. And out of all of the romantic dramas I've been forced to see and all the Shoujo I've watched, the first thing that comes to mind is always Ichiruki; a Shonen ship that's not even canon. That alone speaks volumes of this ship's power.

There's a reason it's still going strong all these years later after the manga ending shot the ship in the face. It is the golden standard I hold all ships to when I attempt to rank them. Here's to Ichiruki, and here's to hoping the anime's return shows respect to it, even if it's just a tiny bit more than the manga did.
______________________________________________
Now that that's done, here's what's coming next. First, I'll be releasing a short essay discussing a certain ship I despise, as well as it's impact on the world at large. And then, on a happier note, I'll begin revisiting some past ships and doing new chapters on them. Things have changed after all of these years, and it's high time I talk about them. So every other ship will be a revisited ship in between new ones. You'll see the pattern when I make it.

I hope you all have enjoyed this very overdue chapter... Till next time guys!
