Chapter Twenty Nine

"I can't believe we've been here four days doing nothing and have never gone to the pool."David exclaimed next to me as he pulled on his swimming trunks.

"It's because everytime you ask then see me in my bikini we end up doing our own kind of swimming behind closed doors."I said pulling on a one piece black bikini as he chuckled.

David had ripped a pair of my one pieces and I wasn't risking that today.

"You're the one at fault." He jabbed.

"Me? How?" I asked.

"For looking irresistible in a bikini."He said licking his lips eyeing me up and down.

"Stop looking at me it's not going to happen and you've seen me in my underwear but you never react that same way." I admonished.

"Are you sure about that?" He asked taking predatory steps towards me.

"David I'm serious stop it. I'm sore." I whined.

He wrapped his hands around my waist and pulled me towards him.

"There's so many ways we can do what I have in mind without making you any more sore." He said kissing my neck and I turned putty in his arms.

Looks like we weren't going to the pool after all. The man was insatiable but I liked it.

"You'll get us kicked out."I breathed giving in as I wrapped my hands around his neck.

"No I won't."He replied before smashing my lips on mine and kissing the breath out of me.

I curled myself like a snake around him and I was a goner. Everything with David was perfect and I wish we could live in our own bubble forever. Too bad there was a world outside the doors we lived in and it wasn't always kind. We would make it through though because I believed in us.

Three hours later I stirred awake after being woken up by a phone ringing somewhere in the room. David was lying naked next to me his arm thrown securely over my waist as his face was nuzzled into my neck. He was right about exploring new things, we had done a lot of exploring alright.

My phone started ringing again and I felt around and until I grabbed it from the nightstand. I looked at the screen through blurry eyes and received it placing it on my ear.

"Nisha." My mom's crying voice came through the phone making me sit upright.

My sudden movement made David stir awake.

"Mom what's wrong?" I asked getting panicked as I tossed the sheets off me and got out of bed stark naked.

I was already freaking out and I didn't even know what was wrong.

"Babe what is it?"David asked groggily as he sat up too on bed.

He looked good it was not time to concentrate on that. My sobbing mother on the other side of the phone call was more disturbing.

I shrugged because I didn't know what was wrong either.

"The boys. The boys are in the hospital." She choked out falling into another fit if tears.

My mom rarely cried so hearing her on the verge of a breakdown was breaking my heart.

"Mom what happened to Ken and Caleb?" I asked my voice raising an octave higher.

"Car accident. Hospital." She wheezed.

"Okay mom send me the address and we'll be right there." I instructed.

I hang up before she could reply and walked into my closet to change with David right on my heels. I didn't care that I hadn't showered or that the smell of sex was still clinging to me. What mattered was my brothers. I didn't even know what state they were in.

We'd had breakfast together that morning before Caleb had driven Ken to school. What had changed in a matter if hours?

David walked into the closet and took my hands in his stopping me from my frantic movement.

"Let me go David." I demanded.

"Not until you calm down." He demanded looking at me dead in the eyes.

I was shaking and breathing heavily in short pants meaning I was close to having panic attack.

"My brothers." I sobbed out falling into his chest and he held me securely.

"I know baby I know but you cannot freak out until you know all the details. Take deep breaths, calm down and we'll go to the hospital." David said in a calm tone.

I did as he asked and he held me securely in his embrace the whole time. Why was he so perfect? After I was calm enough he let me go.

"Thank you." I whispered out as he dried the tears on my face with his thumb.

"Don't mention it." He replied leaning in to kiss my forehead.

He let me go and gathered up all my clothes go for me and his too before gathering them in one hand and taking my other hand in his. He then led me to the bathroom and put the clothes next to the sink. He soaked a washcloth in water before cleaning me up to the best of his ability. There was no time to take a shower.

"I like the fact that you smell of me and the evidence of what we were upto a couple of hours ago but you need to look presentable for your family." He reasoned and I nodded because he was right.

As he cleaned himself up I got dressed and brushed my teeth. He'd picked out a pair of blue jeans, a simple t-shirt and one of his grey hoodies. He was dressed similarly only his hoodie was black. I wore a pair of uggs for comfort and David just wore his normal pair of boots. We grabbed our phones, car keys and some cash before leaving the house. David drove because George was away man hunting for Derek. I think George had some background working with the military or something like that but whenever I asked him he just brushed me off and changed the topic. My grandpa wouldn't hire just anyone to be my bodyguard so he had to have some credentials. Well whatever they were I hoped they helped bring Derek to justice.

We got to the hospital in record time, David trying to make the drive easier by cracking jokes. He was terrible at them so it actually worked. I was much calmer by the time we got to the hospital. David held my hand as we walked in making me feel safe. He asked for my brother's rooms and we were directed to the third floor.

"I've got you." David reassured me just before the elevator doors opened on the third floor.

"Thank you." I replied as we walked out hand in hand.

We found my mom and grandpa waiting for us in the waiting room. My mom wasn't crying anymore but her eyes were red with unshed tears and she looked sad and disheveled. My grandpa was besides her holding his head in his hands looking a hundred years old. I let go of Davids hands and ran to my mom's side. She hugged me tight and no matter how much I wanted to cry I stayed strong for her. They were my brothers but they were her children and that was a bond I'd never understand until I became a mom myself.

Grandpa just gave me a sad smile before going back to gazing at a blank wall. Why were they behaving like someone had died? Wait had someone died.

"Mom what happened?" I asked her as I felt David settle himself next to me.

"Umh. It was uh..." She tried to explain to me but no words came out.

"Caleb is awake. You can go in and talk to him. He will tell you everything. Ken is still in the operating room." My mom informed me.

I was relieved that Caleb was okay but hearing that Ken was still under operation had me even more worried.

"Okay mom. I'll be right back." I replied getting up and she just nodded at me slightly.

My grandpa pointed what room Caleb was in and I walked towards it. David was right behind me the whole time and I appreciated that. He was the strength I needed at that time.

We both walked in and the sight of my baby brother lying on the blue hospital sheets looking battered and bruised had tears rolling down my cheeks. He was covered in bandages and his head was wrapped in gauze. He looked so vulnerable compared to the baby brother I knew. He must have heard movement because he stipend stirred awake and turned to face us.

"Hey baby bro." I greeted with a shy wave.

"Am I contagious?" He asked making me and David chuckle and walk towards him.

I leaned down careful with his injuries and hugged him and kissed his cheek. David fist bumped him before taking a seat next to the bed and I sat on the hospital bed next to Caleb.

"Caleb what happened?" I asked assessing his injuries.

"Promise you won't be mad?" He asked and I saw his eyes rim with tears.

Caleb was the tough one. He took after dad and even though we messed around a lot he always came through for his family. He took the protective brother role even if I was five years older than him.

"I promise."I assured him.

"I went to pick up Ken from school after hanging out with my friends. We started talking about how your cars are just sitting idle with no one to drive them so we drove my BMW to your place to switch it up." He explained.

"Caleb." I groaned.

"I know I'm sorry." He apologized letting a tear fall.

"It's okay it's not something you haven't done before anyway." I smiled to lighten the situation and urged him to go on.

"I know but this time we took the jeep wrangler even if you warned us to never use it. We were just going to go for a spin, show off to a few of our friends before putting it back and hope you'd never know. You always know though but we were willing to risk it."He paused for a while and sat up straighter.

He got this haunted look on his face and I knew that the worst was yet to come.

"How did the accident happen?" David asked next to me.

I guess he was getting impatient just like I was. Caleb was beating around the bush but I knew it was to delay the inevitable.

"We had just left your estate when another car started approaching us at a fast speed. I carefully changed lanes to avoid hitting them but the brakes weren't working. I swerved to avoid a head on collision and we missed the car but since the jeep wouldn't slow down and I had already swerved violently, we hit a telephone pole. Ken had been yelling at me to hit the breaks the whole time but no matter how hard I tried they just wouldn't work. Ken's chest hit dashboard because his seatbelt malfunctioned and snapped open when we crashed."He choked out tears streaming down his cheeks.

"What about the airbags?" David asked.

"They didn't deploy." Caleb replied still sobbing.

I pulled him to me even if he was larger than me, we made it work and I consoled him. I held him until he calmed down.

"What about Ken? Mom told me she hasn't seen him yet. "He sobbed.

"He's going to be okay. Caleb stop beating yourself up. I'm not mad about the car, maybe a little but it's replaceable and you're not. You're okay and that's all that matters and Ken will be okay too."I assured him.

"Thanks siz."He sniffed and I gave him a squeeze.

My mom came in a few minutes later with a smile on her face. We were all looking at her because it meant she had news about Ken.

"The doctor just informed us about Ken. He's okay, he had internal bleeding because of the impact but they fixed it and he'll be okay. My baby will be okay." She sobbed out and I walked towards her to console her.

She was relieved and so was I together with everyone's else. We had already experienced enough loss after losing my dad and grandma. We weren't ready for any more loss.

"Mom I'm sorry."Caleb apologized when me and my mom pulled apart.

I walked towards David who pulled me to his lap and my mom approached Caleb.

"Baby it's okay. I'm just glad that both of you are safe." She reassured him and hugged him.

"Mom can we see Ken?" I asked her.

"You're grandpa is with him right now so you can in a while. He still in critical condition so they are only allowing one person at a time." She replied and I nodded.

We sat there waiting for my grandpa to arrive just being glad we were all together in the same room safe and happy. He came in ten minutes later and David walked me to Ken's room and waited for me outside.

I went in and Ken looked so much worse that Caleb but his heart was beating so that was a good sign. He'd broken his arm since he'd used it to brace himself for the impact. A few broken ribs and a concussion but other than that he was okay. I stayed a few minutes minutes talking to him even though he was unconscious before wishing him goodnight and leaving.

David was waiting for me outside with open arms that I fell right into. He didn't go in to see Ken and I didn't pressure him into it.

My mom and grandpa approached us a few minutes later.

"The doctor said we need to go home and rest and we can come back in the morning. We don't want to but your grandpa needs to rest and you guys do too." My mom explained.

"Okay mom, let me say goodnight to Caleb first." I said and she nodded.

David and I walked back into Caleb's room to say goodnight and promised to be back in the morning. He didn't want us to leave but he was already sleepy so it didn't take much to convince him.

We all walked out of the hospital together and my mom drove with my grandfather and I with David. It was so dark outside, the day had ended pretty fast but with so much going in it was understandable.

"There's something that has been bothering me since we talked to Caleb about the accident." David broke the silence ten minutes into the drive.

"You think someone messed with the brakes." I asked him already having those thoughts too.

"Yeah I mean, I personally took them all for servicing two weeks ago and drove them home myself. We haven't driven the wrangler since then so someone must have messed with them hoping...." I cut him off finishing his thoughts.

"We'd be the ones driving it and get into an accident." I finished.

"Yeah but we can't be so sure. We'll just have to wait for the police report." David reasoned and I nodded in agreement.

"This is getting out of hand. What if my brothers had died?"I asked feeling a shiver of fear travel down my spine.

Their deaths would have shattered my family.

"Let's be glad they are okay and hope George funds Derek soon. I'm sorry about all this."He apologized looking sad.

"We've already talked about this. None of this is your fault. It's all Derek's doing." I said.

"Yeah I know but I'm partly to blame. He is using my old gang to do his dirty work. If I hadn't been associated with them...."He explained but I interrupted his rant.

"He'd still find another way to mess with us. Now no more buts or ifs. I am sure it will cool down soon. Now drive me home I wanna cuddle." I whined.

"Yes ma'am." He replied with a chuckle.

The day had began so well but ended in tears. I was just glad that everyone was okay. George had better find Derek soon before he did any more damage. He had missed me and David and gotten my brothers instead. Once he realized his mistake he was going to hit back harder and I hoped he was behind bars soon before that happened. Lord please keep my family safe. I prayed.
