Chapter 2
At last the final bell rings signalling the end of the first day. I head over to the back of the school where I told Sidnee I would meet her.
She's already there waiting for me doing something on her phone and when I get close enough I yell "Yo!" At her. She lifts her head up and waves, "Hey girl!" She grins.
I lean on the wooden bench that she's sitting on with my back facing her and tilt my head back to soak in the rays. It's so hot today...
"So how was your day?" She questions me with an evil grin.
I roll my eyes, "It was fine." I tell her impishly while crossing my arms.
She laughs, "You are sticking with your pact Jennifer Elizabeth Malcom!"
I rear my head back and stare at her, "Could you be any more loud?!"
She gives me an innocent look then covers her mouth with her hand. "Sorry." She apologizes through her fingers.
I look around us to make sure no one is in ear shot. God, I don't need anyone else hearing about this! You know how lame this is?! It looks like no one is around to hear that.
"Damn right you should be, I don't want any one outside my friend group knowing about this. It's way too embarrassing." I look down at my hands. "I'm starting to regret even telling you guys."
Sidnee leans down so we are at the same level. "No, no! I really am sorry! I swear to you my lips are sealed." I turn my body to face her and she's moving her thumb and pointer finger across her lips like she's zipping them up.
I shake my head. "You better." I point at her.
She smiles and nods, "I will I promise, I'm just excited for you." Her feet start shaking. "You are finally going to try to date!"
Yeah, I'm a little excited too. I've wanted to date and have a boyfriend for a while but I've always been too scared or shy. I'm not even going to count Dane as my first boyfriend because back in grade 9 we dated for like a month and we didn't even hold hands! I was that shy!
"I work at 2:30 want to hang out at the mall?" I ask my best friend changing the subject.
"Hell yeah!" She chirps jumping off the table.
We hitch a city bus to downtown where the mall is. I love our mall it is three stories of shops and different stores with a movie theatre and a Dave and Busters, where I work at. You can spend hours here which is what we do sometimes.
Sidnee and I meet up with a couple of her friends while we were walking who I and some others from my school like to call 'The Barbies,' and now we have started talking about the new exchange students. "I have Science with Taehyung and Jin! I don't know how I am going to concentrate in that class!" Sidnee's friend Lee gushes.
"Wait which one is Taehyung and Jin again?" Tiffany asks with her brows furrowed. "They're the blond one and the really tall sort of blonde one right?"
I roll my eyes while looking at a cute shirt. "Taehyung has the silver hair, Jin is the broad shouldered one. The ones your thinking of are Jimin who has the blond hair and Namjoon is the tall one who also has blondish hair." The girls are all quiet so I look up at them and their jaws are hanging open.
Brittany shifts to her left hip. "And how do you know all their names already?"
"I have homeroom with the seven of them." I tell them with a shrug.
"What?!" Sidnee gasps, "You didn't tell me you had homeroom with all seven of them?!"
Crap I shouldn't of said anything.
Lee comes striding up to me until we are only a couple inches apart. "You have to give me the deets when you know more about them Jen. I need to know all about them! Especially Jin!"
Ew... Did I just become popular? I never thought that day would be possible, even though my best friend is one of them...
The three of them continue to press me about things I don't even know about the guys yet. It's only the first day! Before they can interrogate me any longer my alarm goes off. Time for work!
"You got to go?" Sidnee asks me with a pout.
"Yeah, you know how my boss is, if I'm not there 15 mins early I'll get yelled at." He really is an asshole but it's a good job.
"Ok, well I'll see you there later tonight. Mark is taking me for a date." She grins jiggling her whole body.
I lean on a clothing rack. "What? I thought you still had that fling going on with Jake?"
She raises her shoulders and gives me an 'I Don't Know' face.
I squint my eyes at her, "I'll tell you about it later! You better get going!" She slaps at me but misses. "Fine." I say and leave the store.
I arrive at my job on time and head for the back so I can change into my 'uniform' which is just a black dress and black ballet flats. The dress code for girls is black skirts or dresses only where guys can wear black pants with a white long or short sleeve shirt. It's kind of demeaning because I feel so uncomfortable, all the girls that work here feel that way too. Being a waitress sucks I kind of wish I was working in the arcade area but I won't get tips if I work there.
Andrew and I start moving the chairs off the tables and wipe them down before we open at 3.
"I quit!"
That sounds like Cheryl...
"Is that Cheryl?" Andrew asks me reading my thoughts.
I'm about to answer him when Cheryl comes rushing out from the back with her mascara running down her face. She storms by us and leaves the restaurant without saying a word. Shit.
We look at each other in worry for a moment. "I guess that means we'll be short staffed tonight." Andrew sighs.
I move a chair off the top of the table, "Yup." I nod at him. "Thank god it's Monday though."
Andrew wipes down the surface, "Thank god it's a Monday." He repeats under his breath.
After we do a couple more tables our boss comes out of the back room with his hands shoved into his pockets. "So you might of heard that Cheryl quit."
Really I wouldn't of guessed. It wasn't much of a surprise either, she's been wanting to leave for a while because her and Ian are always butting heads. Ian eyes the both of us then shifts his gaze onto me.
"Since you have more experience I need you to cover Cheryl's tables until we can get a backup. You should be able to handle it right Jen?"
Only by a couple months! I bite my tongue and just nod, "Yes Sir." I reply with my fakest smile.
"Good, I am counting on you." He smiles at me with thin lips then walks away mumbling to himself that he'll have to hire someone.
Jackass.
Andrew and I go back to moving chairs and wiping down the tables. We are almost done when Andrew stops and looks at me.
"If you need any help you can just ask. I know Ian doesn't like it but it's not fair to put all the work on you." He offers with a shrug.
I should be fine because Mondays are usually slow. "Thanks Andrew." I smile at him. "I'll be forever grateful."
We both chuckle then continue on our work clearing the tables.
3 o'clock comes around and it's time to open, a couple people trickle in and most of them go to the arcade area. It'll be around dinner time that the rush will come. Even if it's slow you can't be sitting around so to make myself look busy I fill up some glasses with water.
The backup didn't come around till after 6, I was starting to worry because the crowd was picking up. Sidnee and her friends, along with Mark not Jake, took a table in Andrew's area so I don't have to deal with them. A lot of teens from my school like to come here and hang out and actually some more are trickling in. But I don't care! The backup can take care of Cheryl's tables and I can worry about mine!
I'm waiting for a customer to pay for their meal when I happen to glance over to the front door. No way! My eyes widen as I watch the group of guys enter. I keep watching them as they approach the host and then lead to one of my tables. NOOOO!!
"Excuse me?" The paying customer grunts impatiently to me.
I turn my attention to them and they're holding the card machine up at me. "Oh sorry!" I grab the machine from them. "Would you like your receipt?"
"No thank you." They reply sharply.
Good, "Have a wonderful evening." I say with a fake smile.
I walk over to where Sidnee is sitting and lean down to her ear. "Guess who's here." I groan.
"Who?" She asks as she's looking around. Her lips form an 'O' shape and she starts grinning once she sees who I'm talking about. "Do you have to wait on them?"
I nod, "The universe hates me."
She laughs and the rest of her group look over to the exchange students.
"They're not all that." Mark scoffs. "Us guys don't see why you girls are all in love with them." Insecure much.
"You're just jealous that they're getting our attention now aren't you Marky?" Tiffany quips.
"And the fact that they're super hot." Lee adds with a grin.
Mark just makes a face at her and puts an arm over Sidnees' shoulders to pull her closer. What does Sidnee see in Mark? He's just a dumb jock... probably because he's popular unlike Jake.
I stand up straight, "Well I better go before I get yelled at."
"Ok have fun." Sidnee winks at me.
As I'm walking away I can hear Lee whine that I'm so lucky. I roll my eyes, god she's desperate.
I wave to Sidnee's group and head over to where the guys are sitting. Ugghhh. I don't want to deal with them!
They are busy chattering with each other so I clear my throat to get their attention. "Hi I'm Jen, your waitress for the evening, can I start you guys off with some drinks?"
They stop talking and turn their heads to my direction and when they realize it's me they all start smiling then greet me with a warm 'hello'. Stop staring at me...
"Hi pretty lady!" Jimin waves at me checking me out.
"Hi Jen!" Taehyung grins.
"Hey guys." I smile awkwardly at the group. How did they hear about this place already? Well it's no surprise really, it's a popular hangout here. They must of just followed the crowd.
"I'll have a coke, please." Namjoon smiles.
"Sprite for me!" J-Hope yells.
Taehyung puts a hand up, "Iced tea please."
Jimin is frowning at his menu, "Well that's no good." He looks up at me. "You're not on the menu so I can't have you!" Uh excuse me?
I'm about to say something back to him when Jin leans forward.
"Ey!" Jin yells at Jimin then slaps him in the arm. He lectures something to Jimin in Korean.
Jimin retorts something back to him then he turns to me with his shoulders slouched, "I'm sorry, I was joking." Jimin apologizes not making eye contact with me.
"It's fine." I say with a small smile. Not really if we were anywhere else I would of told him off.
Jin politely tells me what he wants then I look at Yoongi and Jungkook who are left to order. They both haven't said a word since I arrived and have been staring at their menus.
"Yoongi? What would you like to drink?" I ask him to get his attention.
He looks up at me with a smirk. "Just an iced water, thank you."
"And I'll try the Grape Candy Chill." Jungkook says quietly staring at me with his big brown eyes.
I start to blush when our eyes meet.
"All right. Coming right up." I smile to the group and walk away quickly. I hate life right now, this is way too awkward! I can feel Lee and the rest of them watching me but I don't dare look in their direction.
I check in on a couple of tables before I bring their drinks back trying to delay my interaction with the guys.
I hand them their drinks and when I place Taehyungs iced tea down he reaches for it before I move my hand out of the way and his hand touches mine. I start to blush immediately and I pull my hand back but Taehyung doesn't flinch at all instead I notice a corner of his lips quirk up. He takes a swig of his drink and side-eyes me. I shift my gaze to Jungkook sitting across the table and he has a stern look on his face. What's he mad for?
Is he jealous? Maybe I should mess with him a bit to confirm my theory...
I straighten up and clear my throat. "Are you guys ready to order?"
As I'm putting an order for another table through the computer I try to come up with a plan, I need to think of a way to flirt with Taehyung more than I have been tonight, I want to see if Jungkook will get really jealous... Lost in thought I move on to my next task and I accidentally bump into someone. "Oof!" I peek up at the person that I ran into. "Namjoon! Sorry!" I apologize stepping back.
He puts his hands up, "No I'm sorry!" A smile starts to spread across his face. "I'm just trying to find the bathroom."
"Oh." I smile back. I lean to the side to look around him. "It's just down that way around the corner on the right." I point with my finger in the direction and he follows it with his eyes then he turns back to me and I peek up at him. He's so tall...
"Thank you." He bows his head. I bow my head as well and I'm about to turn away when he speaks again.
"Oh and I see that you're flirting with Taehyung to make Jungkook jealous." Um!!
My mouth opens slightly and I just blink at him trying to find the right words but Namjoon continues.
"It's okay, just be careful because I feel some others are starting to get jealous as well." He smirks at me then retreats to the bathrooms before I can say anything else. I'm stuck in place from shock, I can't believe he noticed! Did he mean he is getting jealous too? Who else is getting jealous?! "I'm not!" I yell at his back but he didn't hear me so I'm just talking to myself now.
I stand there incredulous, am I that obvious? Maybe I should stop with the flirting tonight.
"Jen! Stop standing around and do your job please." Ian hisses at me bringing me back to reality.
Jackass... At least my shift is almost over...
I don't look at my boss and continue waiting my tables. I better stop flirting for tonight, it's only the first day and I don't want to cause any trouble with them.
It looks like the guys are finished with their desserts so I walk up to their table. "How was the dessert?" I ask the group.
"Delicious." Jimin says licking his plump pink lips.
"Yes, really sweet." Yoongi replies while his eyes linger on me.
"I like this place we should come here more often." Jungkook says a little too suggestively.
Crap what have I done?!
I gulp, "Would you like your bill? Is it separate or all in one?"
"All on one and yes we would like the bill now." Jin answers from the other end of the table. I walk to the head of the table where he's sitting. "Are you using the machine or paying with cash?" I question Jin leaning forward so he can hear me better.
Jin looks to RM. "We will need the debit machine please." RM smiles at me then says something to Jin in an aggravated tone. Something about Jin using English more.
"I'll be right back then." I tell the guys. I leave the table and bring back the machine only to find J-Hope, Jin and RM sitting at the table. "Where'd the others go?" I ask J-Hope. He nods his head to the arcade area, "They're in the arcade."
I look over to where the other four are and see that Jungkook and Taehyung are playing against each other at air hockey.
"Ah." I nod. I turn around to the three sitting down and hold up the machine in front of them. "Thank you." Jin says as he's reaching for the machine.
The machine beeps in his hand and Jin yelps, he seems quite jumpy. "Would you like your receipt?" I start to giggle.
"No thank you." He says with a dazzling smile.
"Okay well enjoy the rest of your night then guys." I smile at them.
They all start collecting their things and head over to the arcade area except for Namjoon, he walks around the other way towards me. "We will thanks and thank you for dealing with us." He grins showing off his cute dimples once again. "See you tomorrow at school." He says walking away.
"Right see you tomorrow." I groan under my breath.
I have about 10 mins left on my shift and I have no tables to wait on, I look around to find something to do and see that Sidnee is still here with her friends and Ryan is now with them. Nope not going over there now. Before I turn away Andrew walks up to me dressed in regular clothes. "Hey Jen." He waves at me.
"Hey. You off already?" I tilt my head to the side. I already know the answer but I felt like I needed to say something other than 'hi'.
"Yep." He laughs looking down at his normal clothes then looks at something behind me. "I'll see you on Wednesday?"
"Yeah." I nod, "And thanks for your help today."
He grins at me, "It was no problem." Andrew raises his hand for a high five and I slap it then he walks past me. I don't know how we started the high five thing but it's our thing we do now. I follow his body retreating and he walks over to Sidnee's group and sits with them next to Ryan.
I like Andrew, he's one of the nicer popular guys and he's close friends with Ryan... I watch the group as more popular kids show up and gather around the table. What's with popular kids and having to sit in large groups together?
I roll my eyes and head to the back to clock out of my shift. I change back into my clothes that I wore earlier today feeling more comfortable now. I call my mom to see where she is, she was supposed to text me when she is here.
"Hi sweetheart!"
"Hi mom, where are you?" I ask her while aimlessly walking around the restaurant.
"I'm on my way, I just had to pick up your brother from soccer practise." She's quiet for a second then she sighs into the phone, "Your father forgot again."
Ah dad can get busy sometimes...
"Okay, so you'll be a while?"
"Yes, sorry Jenny. I'll be about 30 minutes."
"All right mom. See you then." I hang up the phone and throw it in my bag. What do I do now? I can't hang with Sidnee because Ryan is there now...
I wander out from the back like a lost dog and walk over to the arcade area. I don't see Sidnee or her friends anywhere. Shane's at the prize desk resting his head on his arm looking like he's about to fall asleep.
"Hey Shane." I say and he jumps.
"What's up Jen?" He yawns stretching his arms out.
"Not much." I shrug. "Just waiting for my ride, with nothing to do to pass the time." I sigh dramatically.
He smirks then hands me some free tokens. "Knock yourself out."
"Thanks!" I smile at him then grab the coins. It must be nice being the son of the boss.
I walk over to the dance dance evolution game, it's more of a two player though...
"Need a dance partner?" J-Hope asks walking up beside me.
"Uh I-I don't know. Sure?" I stutter.
His eyes light up and he jumps up onto the dance platform with me following suit.
I put the coins in and before I can punch in the difficulty J-Hope reaches first and puts it in 'Pro' mode. Holy shit!
"I can't dance Pro!" I whimper at him.
J-Hope just bellows then looks at me with an evil smile. "You'll be fine!" He reassures me jokingly.
I used to be in gymnastics and I'm in track and field now but that won't help me here. I am not a dancer.
J-Hope chooses a song as I place my things on the floor. "You ready?" He eyes me with his hand hovering over the 'Ready' button.
I take in a deep inhale then nod. Let's do this!
Damn J-Hope can move! Of course he is winning because my legs are flailing around barely hitting the marks in time. The other guys group around us and cheer me on but I stay focused on the arrows scrolling up the screen.
It's no use J-Hope won by a landslide. "Damn." I huff. "You're awesome J-Hope, good game."
"Thanks." J-Hope's face lights up and he raises his arms straight up and shakes his hips side to side doing a silly dance.
Taehyung laughs, "Jen did better than Suga did when he danced against J-Hope!"
The others join in on the laughter while Yoongi gives them a death glare. A small smile spreads across my face as I catch my breath.
Yoongi swears in Korean at V then mutters under his breath. "I don't dance."
"Come on Yoongi let's see how you do against me." I quip with an arched brow.
'Oohs' and 'Ahhs' erupt through the group and Yoongi crosses his arms in disgust. "Fine." He says simply and steps up to the dance square.
"Keep it on expert!" Taehyung demands.
I peek up at Yoongi, "You can pick the song." I say sweetly.
He smirks at me then finds a song.
The score was close but I won! All the guys start giggling, "I told you I don't dance." Suga says as he steps off the platform, his cheeks turning a light rosy colour. Awe.
V and J-Hope come up to me and high five me. I step off the platform with a huge grin splayed across my face and pick up my things. This was fun!
My phone rings inside my bag so I answer it. "Hey mom."
"Hi Jenny! We are here!" It's Ben on the phone imitating moms voice and he hangs up before I can say anything. Little turd. I shove my phone in my pocket and look towards the group of guys. "I got to go guys! See you later!"
J-Hope gasps, "No! We were just getting started!"
I shrug my shoulders, I want to go home. "Rain check." I tell him with a sheepish grin. "Bye!" I say to them as I leave the place. "Oh wait!" J-Hope spins around and I hold out my hand in front of him, "Open your hand." I order him. He does and I drop the rest of the coins in it.
I find my mom and my brother in my car in the parking lot. I hop in the drivers side and put my seat belt on.
"How was your first day of school?" My mom asks from the passenger side.
After putting my seatbelt on I place my right hand on the wheel pulling out of the spot, "It was good, it is definitely going to be an interesting year." I shrug.
Ben giggles in the back seat, "Yeah because of the hot new exchange students all the girls are talking about. Right Jenny?"
I shake my head, "I don't know what you're talking about Ben." I spin my head around quickly to give him a death glare.
"Oh yeah they are from South Korea this year?" My mom asks staring at me.
I nod in response. Turning onto the highway.
"How do they like California?" God parents ask so many questions.
"I don't know mom." I sigh, "It's only the first day but I'm sure they're enjoying themselves in America."
Once I enter my home I heat up the leftovers from dinner and march up to my room. So tired. I log onto my computer and scroll through the different social medias while I eat my food. I wonder if any of the guys have a Facebook or Snapchat...
I bring my dirty dishes down to the kitchen and throw them in the dishwasher, then head back to my room so I can shower.
After my shower I put on my pjs and turn on my Xbox to play some Overwatch before bed.
*bleep* I pick up my phone to see who the text is from:
Sid- Did you have fun at the arcade with the South Korean models? ;)
I snort at the models part but it is true, they could be models. Didn't know she was still there.
*whoop*
Sid- btw Ryan was watching you too ;D
I feel my face blanch and I quickly type back to her.
J- Lies! I didn't see you guys there!
Just then my phone rings and I answer it.
"Please be joking." I say to Sidnee.
She giggles, "No I'm serious! Ryan and Andrew were watching you!"
"Well." Is all I can muster. Ryan and Andrew were watching me? "They weren't watching me they were watching the new guys. Ryan doesn't even know I exist." I lay on my back on my bed and rest my arm across my forehead.
"Jen you're gorgeous, and Ryan knows who you are." She states matter of factly. "He could know you more if you hung out with us." HA!
"Yeah, no." I scoff. "I can't handle Lee and Tiffany or Brittany." I roll over to my side to check my clock. 11:47.
"They're not that bad Jen. You should come out with us to D and B's next time and chill with Ryan."
"Mmm..." I trail off, I don't like being forced into anything and I don't like her friends that's why I'm not with the popular group because I can't handle them, they're so stuck up.
"You're sticking with your pact Jen! Be confident and come out with us more!" She yells into the phone. Damn.
I sigh and sit up, I have to get this straight with her. "Sid I love you but you really need to stop using that on me, I am going to be more confident but I am not letting it change who I hang out with or who I am. I just don't like your friends. And if something happens with Ryan let it be on my terms please and don't try to force anything."
"Fine." She exhales sharply. "I'm sorry, I'll stop it with the pact thing, I'm already seeing more confidence in you anyway." She giggles for a moment then sighs. "Ugh, I should go. I'll see you tomorrow?"
Its a rhetorical question but I answer her anyway then we hang up. She's going to blab about my pact to the wrong person I know it...
I play two more games then hit the sheets. It's going to be a long day tomorrow...
