¥ Chapter 18 ¥

(A/N: So... out of boredom, the other author, Wolfthorne, decided to do a drawing too. And she (I) am terrible at drawing, so no judging! If y'all are wondering what it is, read on to find out! Just know that she (I) was too lazy to draw the weird metal scales)

§Mark's POV(WHAAAT?)§

Tasha and I ran to the forges, keeping an eye out for any monsters, but we encountered none. I guess they all went with the army. Inside the forge, the god was still hammering away, but at the shackles that chained him to the floor.

"Lord Hephaestus, we're here," Tasha said, running over to help him.

"Why don't you just melt the chains or something?" I asked. The glare I received could've fried an egg.

"Because, boy, the cyclopes aren't as stupid as they seem. This chain is very difficult, nearly impossible to melt. Besides, this room prevents me from using my godly powers, otherwise I'd have escaped long ago," he growled.

"Whoops, my bad," I said sheepishly. I concentrated hard on the chains that shackled him to the floor, and the links broke.

"Thanks kid," the god grunted reluctantly.

"Hephaestus, Athena said something about a secret weapon that the cyclopes wanted to use on Olympus. Something that Mark and I apparently have the keys to. Where is it?" Tasha asked. He sighed.

"It was an invention of mine, Zeus', Ares' and Athena's. It was originally created to monitor Poseidon because, well, you know how paranoid my father is. Always convinced his brothers want to take his throne. Anyways, it was deactivated a couple hundred years ago, because the Olympians thought it could be dangerous. See, I made it autonomous, so it makes it's own decisions and chooses it's own sides. So Athena and I made the keys, to stop anyone from reactivating it.," the fire god explained, limping over to a metal wall with a palm and retina scanner on it.

He scanned his eye and hand, and the wall slid open to reveal what looked like a giant metal dragon. (A/N: The picture makes sense now, doesn't it?)

"Whoah, that's so cool! Is it a dragon?" I asked excitedly. I got another egg-frying glare.

"Do you see any wings? No, it is not a dragon. Not exactly. Although, the legs do dismantle and reassemble as fin-like wings. It's made of a combination of celestial bronze, Stygian iron, good ol' steel, and even Imperial gold. Yes, I know, Imperial gold is very Roman, but very practical," he told us gruffly. I examined the metal creature more closely, and noticed a shallow figure-eight indentation with small holes inside it.

"But what activates it? Athena said we had the keys to activate it, but I don't know what she meant. And we're running out of time!" Tasha exclaimed. She groaned with frustration, and I thought I saw the fire god smile underneath his smoking beard.

"You've had one all along, child of Khione. That bronze locket that I gave you. The other key is some kind of magic verse in Ancient Greek, but only Athena knows it," he said. My eyes widened as I remembered something.

"Maybe not. When those one-eyed things drugged us, I was the first one to wake up, and I had a conversation with my mother. She spoke to me about the weapon, but she didn't specify what it was. Then she said something about a phoenix, but in Ancient Greek. A kind of poem. She said I'd know when to use it," I told them. Heph-whatshisname's eyes widened.

"Quick, put the locket in the indentation," he instructed Tasha. She took the locket off of her necklace and walked towards the metal monster. When the locket was close to the dragon-thing, it popped open, and Tasha fitted it into the indentation.

"Alright, boy, you need to say that verse your mom told you," the fire god said. "In Ancient Greek."

I stepped forward nervously, my words caught in my throat. Tasha caught my eye and she smiled reassuringly, making my stomach fill with butterflies.

"Like a phoenix from a flame, you shall rise and live again," I recited, the new language rolling effortlessly off of my tongue. The creature's eyes started to glow blue, and it lifted its huge head to look at us.

"Di Immortales," Tasha breathed, walking towards it slowly. I wanted to stop her, but a feeling in my gut told me that everything will be fine. The creature watched her intently as she approached it, but made no move to attack.

"You are beautiful... Does he have a name?" she asked, speaking the question to the fire god.

"We never got around to naming it, mostly because we never found anything good enough to name it," he replied. Tasha frowned, biting her lip like she always did when she was thinking.

"Salvus. His name is Salvus," she said, smiling widely. The metal dragon-creature -Salvus- grunted with approval, and stood up, walking out of his containment.

"Come on, we have to go and help the others," I reminded them. "We'll never make it in time if we keep procrastinating."

A look crossed over Tasha's face, like she'd gotten an idea, and she glanced at Salvus with a grin. I realized what she was thinking.

"Oh no... no no no no no!" I protested, but she climbed onto the metal beast's back, closely followed by Her-feet-space, or whatever his name is.

"You coming, boy? Or would you rather stay and wait for the monsters to find you?" he asked me. I muttered some colorful swear words, but climbed in between him and Tasha.

"Let's go save the world!" Tasha exclaimed, and Salvus ran through the metal door, in the direction of the army.
