9 • Seeing Him
(Seraphina)
Ethan Montgomery is a senior; he's about to graduate at the end of the school year. I keep seeing him in the hallways of the school. He smirks at me. He winks at me. He tried to grab my ass once. He called out, "girly, come here!"
I ran from him and avoided other students to hide in the bathroom.
I want this nightmare to be over. I wish for Ethan Montgomery to leave me alone. I want to report him to the police.
But this isn't a nightmare; this is my reality. My rapist won't leave me alone; he's the type of person who gets what he wants. The police won't do anything; they'll spend years on this case that they won't solve.
What should I do?
After school, I go to my private bathroom and throw up whatever food I had eaten today. What else did Ethan Montgomery do to me?
"Seraphina, dinner!" I hear my mother call as I finish my homework. Quietly singing More Than Survive from Be More Chill, I walk downstairs.
My mother made ramens with meatballs and frozen veggies in the microwave. Typical. She doesn't want to cook a large meal if my father is working late. I eat my ramen at the kitchen table, wanting to listen to music or watch something on Netflix. My mother watches Netflix on her phone.
I sigh internally. My parents don't care.
