A Calm, Cold Night
It was a dark, crisp evening.
Not a sound for miles.
The stillness hanging in the air,
Like clothes on a washing line.
The sewn, jet-black, threadbare blanket,
Showering our heads with darkness.
Some fairy lights twinkle,
And light up the gloomy sky.
Night time.
Sudden flickers of light,
Distract me from the darkness.
I see the crackle of colour,
A burst of light,
A fizzle,
A bang.
The sounds shoot past my ear
Like a roaring bullet.
Fireworks!
They leap into the air,
And bounce like bunnies
Onto the ground.
They soar through the night,
Like migrating birds.
Whizzing and exploding,
Bursting into little pieces.
They
Fall
Slowly...
Slowly...
To the ground.
Like little tiny snowflakes.
Silence.
It goes back to being cold,
Back to being wet,
Back to being...
A calm, cold night.
