Chapter Twenty Four: Granger Wants Socks
"What the bloody —" but Malfoy was cut off by a tall woman opening the door.
"Draco!" She cried out. It was Malfoy's mother. Mrs Narcissa Malfoy. "Oh it's so lovely to see you, and perfect timing too. I can send you out to do the shopping. Here is the li —" she stopped short. "Draco — who's that?" She pointed at me as I stepped out from behind Malfoy.
"Hermione Granger," he grunted. "I'll tell you everything when we get back mother."
"O ok um — here is the list darling and don't forget the thank you cards. Oh and here is the money." She looked extremely taken aback by the manor in which her son was speaking to her. Malfoy shut the door in her face, he really has a lovely temper, and dragged me back down the walk and pulled me to apparate.
"Malfoy!" I screamed as we landed. "Warn me when you plan on apparating next time. You'll make me sick."
"Fine, Granger, fine." Then he grabbed me by the arm and pulled me into a building. The building was magnificent. It was a humongous wizarding store. I looked around and noticed it was sort of like Diagon Alley shoved into one giant room. There was clothes, food, potions ingredients, house wear, appliances, everything.
"What's your problem?" Malfoy's voice pulled me out of my trance, back to earth. "Never been to a place like this before? No, I suppose you wouldn't would you? Potter wouldn't know about them, and the Weasley's have probably never set foot in a place like this." It was amazing how one minute Malfoy could act like a nice person, or weird but still nice, and the next he was Draco Malfoy the Bouncing Ferret. I chose to ignore him, grabbed a bag, and took off down the store with Malfoy in hot pursuit.
"Granger! Slow down, we have things we need to buy here!"
"Sorry Malfoy! Bye bye." I teased.
"Granger wait!" He screamed. People were starting to stare.
"Nope! Sorry," I screamed back. "Oooh what's this?" I stopped short when I saw a twirling object sitting on a shelf in front of me.
"No idea," Malfoy said. "Let's get a move on." He grabbed me by the arm again and pulled me through the store so we could get all the things on our list. Every few steps I stopped and asked what something was,
"Oh what's this? That's cool! What is it? I have to get one of these! Oh Malfoy have you seen this? Well this looked very odd, what is it?"
—but after a while Malfoy stopped answering and would thrust his wand so I'd find myself standing next to him again. All of a sudden I saw a giant box in front of us and stopped short.
"Malfoy, stop for a moment." I reached out my hand to stop him from continuing as I read the box. It read:
This is the box of things you need. Just place your magic wand in the scanner and put your hand on the platform. Then, out of the box will appear the thing you need to buy.
"Oooh Malfoy! Let's try it! It looks exciting!" Before he could stopped me I had stuffed my wand in the scanner and slammed my hand onto the platform. The box made some loud squeaks and whistles and out of the box came a book.
"What is it?" Malfoy asked, now intrigued.
"It's a book stupid." I announced smacking him over the head with it.
"I can see —" he started to retort, but fell silent at the look on my face. "What's wrong?" I had finally noticed the books title. It read: The Witches Guide to Pregnancy and Dealing With Magical Children. I showed it to Malfoy and his mouth fell into a straight line.
"I guess we will need that," he said looking towards my stomach and back up to my eyes.
"Yup." There followed the most awkward silence I have ever been a part of. After a whole minute of just staring at each other, we continued to explore the store. Or at least, I did. After a while we had finally gotten everything on the list. We would have checked out and gone back to the manor straightaway, had it not been for the display of socks.
The socks were in fun colors and they kept changing color. They were calling to me. I needed them.
"Malfoy," I decided. "I want those socks." He looked at me in shock.
"You want — what?" He was totally confused.
"Socks, Malfoy. Socks. I want some. Could you please buy them for me?" I gave him my puppy dog eyes.
"Why should I get you socks? Surely you have plenty." He thought he had stumped me, but all of a sudden an idea fell into my head. I knew how to get those socks.
"Draco Malfoy," I started, "in the great words of Albus Dumbledore 'One can never have enough socks' and anyways, think of Dobby." I was sure I had won. I picked up the socks ready to put them into the bag.
"Who's Dobby?" Malfoy asked in complete sencerity. I dropped the socks in shock.
"Your old elf."
"Oh." Malfoy was deep in thought. "The one. The one Aunt Bellatrix killed?"
"Yes. That's the one." Who could forget Dobby?
"Oh." He just stood there stupidly. "Fine. If it's that important to you I'll buy you the socks." He said finally. I ran into his arms like a child on Christmas morning. He backed away in shock.
"Don't do that Granger. You surprised me."
"Sorry Mr No- Fun," I joked. "But I believe you told me to act like we are in love."
"You are right Granger." And with that he picked me up in his arms and twirled me around.
"Put me down! Put me down!" I shrieked, but he just laughed at my worry and kept twirling me until he was so dizzy we fell over into a pile of boxed fireworks.

After we had payed for everything we apparated back to the manor. Mrs Malfoy met us at the door as before. She was delighted that we had gotten everything she had asked for. She reached to take the bags and all of a sudden the book fell out. She did a double take and eyed both of us carefully.
"Draco," she started slowly, "do you mind telling me what this is."
"That's n not mine." He stuttered. "It's her's." He jerked a thumb at me.
"You two are going to come into this house right now and tell me everything at once."
