Ethan's pov

Pacing back and forth, I walked to the wall, turned and walked to the invisible point where some form of a barrier prevented me from moving further. Raising a finger, I tapped the barrier, causing a shimmer to ripple out, until it hit the wall outlining my prison yet again. Sighing, I Turned around, walking back to the wall.

Ivy wasn't supposed to see that... No... She wasn't even supposed to be there. How the hell do I explain all this to her?

The look on her face when our eyes locked, It was one I'd never ever forget. She looked so confused, and maybe even scared. Of me?

What if all this was for nothing? What if it doesn't work?

I let out a harsh breath, raking my fingers through my hair.

The buzz from a corner, took my attention. I walked up to the barrier, knowing better than to touch it.

The sounds of footsteps was all I heard until Festus appeared. "Hey, how's the cell holding you up?" He asked, a smirk pulling at his lips, causing shadows over his stubble.

I rolled my eyes. "How's Tom?"

"Good as new, you should have seen the grin on his face after he got the bike." Festus said, holding back his laughter.

I gritted my teeth. "Yeah? What color did he spray it?"

Festus teeth gripped his lower lip as he tried so hard to bite down his laughter. Stretching his phone to my view at the other side of the barrier, my jaw dropped.

"Purple? Out of all the colors in the world, purple?" I asked, dismay coating my tone.

The roar of festus laughter filled the atmosphere. "Small... Small price to... To pay." He stuttered between laughs.

"It's not funny." I gritted out, looking away from what used to be my bike.

"Sorry." Festus mananged to stiffle his laughter as he sled his phone into his uniform pocket. "Well, do you think she'll buy it?"

"Oh she better, I didn't lose my bike for nothing. Besides, the crowd was enough proof that it all went as planned. But-"

"The human girl?" He asked, raising a brow, and crossing his arms over his chest.

"Don't let her hear you say that... Her names Ivy. And by now she probably thinks I'm a monster."

"Well, you kind of are-"

"I was... But now, I'd never do that just for the fun of it."

"If you had known Tom would spray your bike purple, would you have gone through with it?"

"Of course, I mean... I'd have yelled at him and all that, but- yeah, I'd do anything to make sure Ivy is back to safety."

"You know if this works, you'll never see her again, right?"

I swallowed. "Yeah, I know. It's not like she wants to have anything to do with me. I just want her out of here, back where it's safe."

Festus smiled. "Well, for what it's worth, she still cares about you. I saw the look on her face when I hit you." He said.

I scoffed. "After what she saw, I doubt that."

"It was all acting to get the big boss's attention... She'll understand when this actually works out like you planned it."

I felt myself nod. "Yeah, I hope so. But do you think she'd come though? It's been close to nine hours and it's dark already."

"She always comes, maybe she's still hung up watching the video, I mean... It's pretty convincing so she has no choice but to come see if you're okay."

I gulped down. "Yeah, you're righ-"

Another buzz sound stopped my reply.

Festus eyes widened. "Speak of the devil, goodluck." He said, before rushing away.

I on the other hand, walked to the small bed at the side, laying on my back and pretending to be lost in thoughts.

This better work.

Seconds after, the only sound I heard was that of the barrier lifting, accompanied by calculated footstep.

"Ethan." Her soft voice resounded around the cell, followed by the sound of the barrier closing back up.

I turned my head towards her direction. Blue eyes wide with concern and worry looked down at me. Her brown hair pulled up in a neat ponytail and her black knee length gown telling me that she had either been attending to business on the outside, or, in the usual meetings held by she and whomever she held meetings with.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, raising from my position, but didn't stand, I just sat on the bed looking up at her.

"What do you mean by that? I heard my son got arrested for assaulting his fellow student in school, and you expect me to relax like it's no big deal?"

I shrugged. "I thought I made it clear the last time we spoke that I didn't want to have anything to do with you?"

Her whole expression softened as she sat beside me, her eyes never leaving my face, almost as if she was scared I'd push her away. "Ethan, I know you're angry-"

"Angry doesn't even cut it."

She sighed. "I thought you stopped all this? Why did you hurt that poor boy?"

I scoffed. "Well, let me see..." I pretended to think. "Maybe it's because someone thought it was okay to interfere with my life once again and destroy my happiness because she thinks it would magically bring out my potential. Now people are spreading rumors that I don't really like-"

"So you hurt someone so bad, to pass a message across?" She asked.

"He'll heal, but I won't."

She sighed. "I did what I thought was right-"

"Did you?"

"Ethan, you have to understand this-"

"I understand, perfectly. I'm a living breathing prove of your failure, and you will go to any length to correct that... On the way, forgetting that I'm not some material that you can toy around with. Besides the chip, I'm just another human, with a heart, and feelings."

She shook her head. "You're not an experiment to me, Ethan. You're special to me... You're the only thing I care about, and I can't watch you do these things to people, I can't continue to bail you out of things like this, people would start questioning my leadership."

"I never asked you to bail me out."

"You know I can't see you in here. I don't want anyone treating you like this."

I remained quiet, allowing the silence stretch before she broke it.

"Malcolm informed me about you signing up for the Inc lord's mission." She said.

"Yeah, so?"

"You know I'm never going to let you go, right?"

"You can't stop me even if you want to... That's not your decision to make."

"But that's suicide Ethan, you're not for that job. God knows what he'll do to you if he finds you."

"Why? People volunteer all the time... And what else could he do than kill me?"

She shook her head. "He's going to do more than killing you... You don't understand, do you? Dean knows how important you are to me, he's the only one capable of destroying everything I've built, cause he helped me build it... I can't hurt him because he is one of the things holding this all together, and he can't hurt me because, I have the ability to kill him with just a word. And I can't kill him, cause if I do, everything I've built will be destroyed."

I raised a brow at her. "And I should care because?"

"Because Ethan," she shot up from the bed, raising her hands in exasperation. "You are my weakness, and he knows this... And you know he hates you, after..."

"Lacy." I completed.

She sighed. "I know you don't want to have anything to do with me... I know I've hurt you in countless ways. But one day, I know one day, you'll understand why I do these things. But please, I can't afford to have you taken by Dean, don't go after them."

I suppressed my smile. "Okay."

Her eyes widened. "What?"

"I won't go after them... On one condition."

She gave a sigh of relief. "I know I'm not gonna like this condition, but I'll do anything."

Perfect.

I got to my feet, facing her. "You'll have to let Ivy and Roman go."

Her eyes widened. "But Ethan-"

"Effective immediately, or I'll just throw myself to Dean, we both know I don't care about this Inc, or my life."

Her fingers moved to pinch the space in between her brows.

Please, just please...

"They know too much already, they've seen too much already."

"They won't say anything, I promise."

"Ethan-"

"I'll stop getting myself in trouble, and I won't go after the Inc lords... I'll let everything you've done go... Lacy, Fiona's parents, Ivy's parent, everything... You just have to let them go... If you really care about my happiness, like you claim, you'd do this for me. Please."

A smile grazed her lips as she took a step towards me, her right palm coming to caress my cheek.

The churn in my stomach couldn't be mistaken by anything other than pure hatred.

"Will it make you happy?"

"Yes."

"Then fine. It's done. I'll let them go."

Relief flooded through me... It was almost as if a huge bag of grain had been lifted  off my shoulder.

"You're serious?" I asked, just to make sure I heard correctly.

"You matter more to me Ethan, more than you can ever know. So yes, if it'll make you happy, then fine... I'll let them go."

"Thank you."

She smiled, taking her hand from my face and walking out to the barrier. It lifted, and she walked out, away from my view.

"Let him go." I heard her say before her footsteps faded.

I stood there, relieved and confused.

Relieved because, I couldn't believe it worked... She's going to let Ivy and Roman go...

But my confusion contained so many things. It held so many questions.

Why the hell do I matter so much to Glory? Enough for her to grant my wish? What does she mean by me being her weakness?

Did I make the right decision about letting Ivy go? Do I really want to spend the rest of my life regretting being selfless?

Most of all... Do I really want her away? Never to ever see her again?

Yes Ethan... This is not about you, but all about Ivy... You brought her into this mess, it's your job to get her out, even if it meant never seeing her again.

I did the right thing. This is the right thing.
