Roman's pov
Even if I wanted to deny the fact that there was some truth to what Ethan had said to me at school, I couldn't. He was right. My sudden withdrawal from Ivy and Ethan could come off as suspicious to people watching.
And yes, there were people watching. I might not see them, but they were there, around, peering over our shoulders like deranged hawks.
I sighed angrily, wiping the dishes as Kyle handed them over to me.
Maybe seizing to talk to Ivy was a bad idea. It was selfish. After all, we were in this together. But what the hell was I supposed to do?
I was scared.
After finding out about Fiona, it hadn't really been easy, hell no! I got to thinking. Very very very deep thoughts. What if Fiona wasn't the only one from the sector? What if there were more like her, here on Earth, disguised to an extremely unsuspecting way?
No one is actually safe.
"So..." Kyle spoke up. "I've noticed... Why the sudden distance between you and Ivy? Thought you both used to be close?"
My eyes darted over to his direction. The question was so Random and out of the blue. Besides, Kyle never really talked to me. We were like strangers who happened to be twins. "Nothing."
"It's not nothing." Kyle said. "She drops by here almost everyday after school. How come it just stops all of a sudden? Somethings wrong."
I shrugged. "We never had anything serious before. Just study lessons and all..."
"You both seemed really close. And actually, I kind of miss her presence." He said, an extra edge to his voice.
Who was I kidding? Kyle didn't ask because he cared about my relationship with Ivy. He only asked because this could ruin whatever chance he thought he had with Ivy.
I dropped the cleaning cloth, crossing my arms over my chest as I stared at him. "First you worship the girl and won't shut up about her, secondly, you start dating her best friend, lastly, you try to get with her when she's already in a steady relationship with someone else... And all this time, you knew about her feelings for you. Now that she's starting to move on, you're trying to ruin that?"
Kyle raised a brow at me. "I don't know what you're talking about." He said.
"Oh you don't? All of a sudden you start talking to her, giving her your jacket and trying to flirt with her any chance you get. You can't do that, Kyle. She's in love with someone else."
He scoffed. "She doesn't love that guy." He simply stated. "Whatever it is between them? It's not real. I can see it."
"Well then, you need to go for a eye check-up. Or maybe you need to stop trying to deny it. You lost her all because you were too chicken to claim her when you had the chance to."
His jaw clenched and unclenched. "That's not it. I didn't know what she'd say. I wasn't too chicken, okay? She wasn't exactly easy to walk up to."
"Yeah, because she doesn't look like the girls you normally date?"
He frowned. "What do you mean?"
"The extraordinarily pretty girls with long legs and a more matured face? The ones who looked like supermodels and could pass as a celebrity anywhere. The girls who feel comfortable wearing skirts that barely covers what it should initially be covering? The girls with the wavy long blonde hair that seems too perfect and amazing to touch? Correct me if I'm wrong?" I asked, watching as he grew uncomfortable.
He finally sighed. "Ivy was different. Fine, I know that. But that was exactly what drew me to her. Her difference. That was the same thing that made me so careful when it got to her. I didn't know how to talk to girls like that. What was I supposed to do?"
"Talk to her?" I said. "But it's too damn late for that now."
"It's not."
"Trust me it is. What Ivy and Trevor have, is way more than you could ever have with her." I said. "so just forget it. Move on with Janie, she seems to genuinely care about you."
Kyle shook is head. "Janie's not my type."
"Oh, so is Ivy. But Janie could pass as a celebrity with her long legs and wavy blonde hair. Ivy on the other hand, is just plain Jane. Baby faced, cute smile, the infamous ponytail and a nerd."
Kyle rolled his eyes. "Whatever. I don't really care. If I wanna get Ivy, I will get her. Taking Trevor out of the picture is not that hard."
I raised a brow at him. "If only you knew." I said. "Well, good luck with trying to take him out of the picture." I said with a half-hearted smile, walking out of the kitchen, and straight up to my room. The moment I stepped in, I found a figure, standing right in front of my window, her back turned towards me.
My heart literally jumped cause I knew who it was.
And even worse; with the way she appeared, I knew quite well she was literally here for business, and she knew that I knew who she really was.
Her curly red hair fell loosely down her back, stopping somewhere above her waist. She was adorned with tight leather pants and what looked to be a leather jacket with a different but unique quality.
Slowly, with my fast beating heart, I closed the door behind me.
With a gulp, I spoke up. "F-Fiona?"
She turned to my direction immediately, it looked like she had been in deep thoughts. "Roman." She said, her voice was very different from the usual girly one. This one was a little bit deep, with a slight crack to it, something I heard frequently when ever she spoke with her girly voice.
My face morphed into a frown. "What are you doing here?"
A smile grew on her lips as she made her way towards me slowly.
My heartbeat escalated with every step she took.
She stopped right in front of my reading table. Her blue eyes now completely different from the fake dull brown, Scanned me from head to toe. "You know," she started, pulling out something that looked like a tube from her jacket. "I really love the idea of me standing in front of you without any disguise. And I'd love for it to stay that way."
I furrowed my brows when my eyes, registered the small tube completely.
Is that... LT wipe?
"Back at the Inc, I was known for my excellent skills in using things like, the dream weed, Viteq Rocks, Hidre serum, and... the LT wipe. Well, most especially the LT wipe."
I swallowed.
"I was the best at giving the dosage, enough for anyone like my kind to forget their names and all the words in the dictionary, even how man existed. Imagine if I use that same dosage on you, a mere human. It's going to be drastic. You could go insane, hell, you could even end up in coma, with no certainty that you'd ever wake up." She smiled at me. "I don't want it to get to that Roman, cause I happen to really like you, so..."
I watched her carefully, my heart hitting my chest at an inhumane pace.
She dropped the tube on the table with a little force, her eyes turning to meet mine, this time, they were hard as ice. "Let's talk, shall we?"

Ivy's pov
"It's either you've gone mad or your chip is really starting to affect your brains in the wrong way." I blurted out, my eyes shining with utter confusion.
"Ouch." He said, but I knew he wasn't affected by it due to the smile on his face. "What's so bad in jumping? Thats the exciting part. It's just like a ferris wheel ride without a ferris... and well, the wheel."
My brows furrowed in a deep frown as disbelief settled in my eyes. "Are you kidding me? I've never seen someone so comfortable talking about death."
He gave a quick laugh that seemed to vibrate through his chest, which made my insides go crazy. "We're not gonna die... If we hold on to each other."
"Ethan!" I exclaimed, hitting him on his arm. "Are you kidding right now? What kind of a date is this?"
"The exciting kind. Come on..." He said, pulling me towards the edge of the bridge.
"No... Are you being serious? Like for real?"
"Yes? Does it look like I'm joking around?"
"Obviously!"
"Well, I'm not."
I let out a shaky breath. "I'm not sure Ethan, I'm not that brave." I said, sounding so unsure.
He turned to me, pulling my chin to face him. "Says the girl who was ready to jump right into fire just to see me happy." He said. "You, Ivy Fisher, are the most bravest person I've ever seen. Even I myself can't beat your braveness. You can do this."
A smile grazed my lips. "I can do this."
"That's the spirit." He said, planting a kiss on my lips, before the exciting part began.
___
I almost screamed when leg slipped from the iron, holding me up.
"Careful." I heard Ethan say from above me.
I tried to look up to see that he had reached the top. His hand was held out for me.
I didn't even dare look down. I just kept climbing, one foot after another. My heart was going ballistic now... Never have I ever been so closed to death. Not even when Edith had found me at the Inc. I knew back then nothing would happen to us.
I was so close to death right now because with one wrong move... There was no saving me. And my suddenly sweaty hands were not helping matters. My arms were beginning to ache.
The wind blew my hair into crazy directions, and I regretted ever leaving it down to fall freely around my shoulders. That was really a stupid move.
After what felt like lifetimes ever, Ethan helped me up and I wondered how the hell he was able to remain steady.
I gained balance beside him, my chest heaving heavily. "Remind me never to ever let you suggest a place for our next date."
He grinned at me. "How do you feel?"
I looked over at him with wide eyes. "Scared, Ethan! Scared!"
"Look ahead."
My body was still uneasy, and my stomach gave an unsteady churn as I looked ahead.
I gasped immediately. Trust me when I say I wasn't expecting to see- to see every single thing. "Oh my God." I let out, breathless in awe. "It's so- it's so beautiful."
I could see the ocean, and I could feel every wave. The blinding lights all around New York City seemed to reflect all around the ocean. My hair was definitely crazy now, but I didn't mind. The wind itself made the atmosphere more amazing. "Ethan, this is so beautiful, how did you even get the idea?"
He simply shrugged, looking ahead. "I'll tell you later." He said. "Do you like the view?"
"Yeah." I said with a nod. "I've never really appreciated nature until today. Thank you Ethan, thank you so much for this."
He turned to look at me now. "Don't thank me yet. We still haven't gotten through the dangerous phase."
I shot him a look, but the smile on my face mirrored the smile on his. "Actually, let's get on with it."
He raised a brow of enquiry.
"Yeah, I'm ready."
My words brought a lost look to his eyes as he stared at me. It wasn't a bad lost look, but a 'really seeing me for the first time lost look.' It made my insides jump and my heart go mad.
"God, you're extraordinary." He said.
Heat rushed up my cheeks and I bit my lower lip holding out my hand for him.
He smiled and took it in his.
I looked up at his sparkling blue eyes, wide with mischief. "You won't let go?" He asked.
"I won't let go." I replied.
"Are you sure you're ready?"
I took in a deep breath and let it out. "I was hatched ready."
_
I towel dried my hair, standing in front of my mirror with a tank top and my pajama trouser, a polka dot blue and white design.
The smile on my face was unfaltering. Tonight had been so awesome, and even though it took a lot of time to take off salt water from my ear, It was worth it.
The exact definition of dangerous and exciting.
Well, whoever told everyone to do something that scared them everyday, knew what he was saying.
It was all a different kind of feeling. I felt relieved and actually, my thoughts were somewhat peaceful.
I quickly hung the towel and jumped on my bed. Sliding under the covers.
It didn't take long before I heard a knock on my door. "Yeah, come in." I said with a grin on my face as my door pulled open, revealing Ethan.
"What took you so long?" I asked.
"I didn't take long." He said, shutting the door and sliding under the covers beside me.
His warmth engulfed me, and I just had to melt into his body in a warm cuddle.
"Hm, you smell so good." He whispered against my ear, his voice husky.
"So do you."
"Barely managed to take all the salt water from my ears." He said.
I chuckled, turning to face him.
His brows pulled down in a frown, his beautiful eyes looked down at my curious one. "What?" He asked.
"Um. You said you were gonna tell me how you found the idea for the bridge." I said.
"Oh... Nothing serious." He said, reaching out to tuck my hair behind my ear. "Back at my sector, there's this tower we call the Musel-"
"Musel?"
"Yeah, the Incs' tallest building, with nothing inside. It's rumoured to be the first ever tower they worked on after creating the dimension. They said people would climb there all the time to see the whole Inc and all sectors. But- people don't even go there anymore."
"You went there?"
"Up until I got to the outside. The Musel was my favorite spot in my sector, I'd go there to get peace of mind, and to get away."
"From what?" I asked.
He managed a shrug. "From everything? There were just sometimes it'd all get too overwhelming, and I'd just want some time alone."
"When did you first go there? How was it like for you?" I asked, genuinely wanting to know.
He let out a relieving breath. "When I was only eleven. I was just too curious, and I also wanted to see what was so special about it then. When I got up, I was so damn tired, but- the view, it was so beautiful... I felt really alive, I felt like there was hope and everything would be alright."
He had a small smile on his face.
It was contagious, so I smiled too. "It must have been really amazing for you."
"Yeah, it was. I guess I wanted you to feel the same thing I felt?"
"Thank you." I said.
"Don't thank me, I was only trying to make you happy. You're happy right?"
"Of course." I whispered. "Of course I'm happy."
He smiled at me.
"Can I ask you a question?" I asked.
"Sure."
"How was it like, when you first got to the Inc? How did you feel?"
Something went through his eyes, but I couldn't really give a name to it.
"It's fine if that's a sore topic for you." I injected quickly. "It must have been horrible trying to remember what happened to you, or how you got there."
He didn't speak for a while, his eyes contemplating if he should tell me something or not.
After a little while, he spoke. "Well, you're right about one thing. I was confused. But someone helped me through it."
"Who?"
"The person who took me there. At first I was hostile towards her, but she kept trying, and eventually, she won me over. She'd always stay up in my room, reading me bed time stories, which I found sort of lame, but it became a ritual, and I got really used to it. Malcolm would leave the door to his house open every night, knowing she'd come to calm me down from nightmares. I got too attached to her. She was just like a mother to me. There was even a time when she told me it was okay to call her Mom."
"She sounds like a nice person." I said with a smile.
"She's not a nice person Ivy."
My smile wiped off Immediately. "What do you mean?"
He hesitated a bit before talking. "Well, she messed up. Took someone very important to me, just because she thought she was helping me."
"Who?" I asked, curiosity eating me up. Was it that girl in the photo? Was it Lacy?
"Was it someone you love?"
His eyes met mine. "It was someone in my past." He said. "we shouldn't bring up the past."
"You'll never enjoy your present If you still hold on to the past."
"I'm not holding on to the past Ivy. If you've been in the Inc as long as I have, you'll learn to let go of the past. And that's what I did. And trust me when I say I never thought I'd ever say this, but my present is actually quite enjoyable." He said with a smile, tracing my jaw line.
"I'm glad it is."
He pulled me closer to him, aiming for a kiss before I stopped him. "I almost forgot... Did you talk to Roman?"
"Yeah, he'll talk to you tomorrow."
"How are you so sure?"
He shrugged. "Cause I actually asked someone to help me talk sense into him."
I frowned. "Who?"
He didn't say anything.
"What?"
"I wasn't supposed to tell you that." He said.
"What do you mean?"
"Forget it. Roman will come around. I promise you." He said.
I was still a little bit confused. Did he do something to Roman? Or did he ask someone to do something to Roman?
Why does it feel like there's something I'm missing here?
