Ivy
"You need to put your boyfriend on a leash." Janie fumed. "What he did to Kyle was uncalled for... And the annoying fact about it was that you didn't do anything about it." She accused.
"For the hundreth time, Janie... I don't know what you are talking about." I muttered, trying my best to focus on the textbook in front of me.
This was already getting unbearable.
People seem to be talking about the big fight yesterday. The one that happened after basketball practice. The one I had no memory about. Did I maybe hit my head or something?
"What's going on with you? Ever since you started dating that out of the blue douchebag, you changed." She pointed out.
"I haven't changed, Janie." I retorted
"What do you even see in him? He's a jerk... I personally think you should break up with him."
I shot her a look. "Excuse me?"
She rolled her eyes. "He's a bully Ivy... Look what he did to Kyle... It's awful. I don't like him." She grunted
"Look-" I didn't know what to say, should I just believe them? Trevor would never do anything like that. He's programmed To do whatever I tell him to. And last I checked, I don't remember telling him to mess Kyle up. "Fine... Let's say Trevor really did that to Kyle-"
"He did. You were there." Janie glowered.
"I wasn't. I would remember."
She groaned angrily, pulling her phone out of her purse as she scrolled through her gallery. "Here," she said, shoving her phone to my face. "We took this photo right after practice yesterday."
My eyes widened when I saw myself smiling at the camera... Still yet, nothing came to me. I had no memory of that moment.
Something is wrong.
"End things before he beats you up too." Janie said, turning from me to talk to a girl beside her.
There had to be a reason. Otherwise, why would I just forget everything? It doesn't make any sense to me. Or anyone else.
Hold on a minute... Kyle mentioned something about me meeting his brother. What business could I possibly have with Roman?
Roman was a nerd, a boy who only believed in science, experiments and technology. I had no interest in either science, experiments, nor technology. So, why the hell would I want to go see him?
I don't remember having any assignment that he could possibly help me with.
I suppressed the insane urge to groan. I can't deal with my blank spaced mind right now. I need to focus on this text book first.
I paused, pulling out my phone to check the calendar, just like Trevor had suggested.
My eyes widened.
What in the-
They were right? They were all right. I'm missing memories of yesterday... How the hell is that even possible?
I did a crazy section of breathing in and out.
I'll have to deal with this later.
_
After history class, I had enough time to think about my blank mind situation. I guess it's time to speak with Roman, if anyone can help out? It would be him.
It was almost time for the next period, so whatever I had to do, I had to hurry up.
I checked the physics and chemistry lab, but he wasn't there, so he was either at the computer lab or absent from school today.
I rushed to the computer lab. Thankfully, just three students were in there, and Roman was one of them... There he was with his crazed hair, typing furiously on the keyboard.
I made my way through the bunch of computer tables until I finally reached him. "Roman... I need your help." I called out his attention.
He turned sharply to me. "That was exactly what you told me yesterday. And that was when it all went blank." He blurted out.
I gulped, "What are you talking about?"
"I'm missing time... And so are you, right?" He asked.
I hesitated before answering. "Yeah... Do you have a theory as to why?"
"No... I know whatever's happening to us has something to do with the reason why you came to see me... Can you remember anything?" He asked. "Even the littlest of information."
I shook my head. "No. It's all blank... Last thing I remember was me asking Trevor to take me home. That was like a day ago." I sighed. "Is this even possible? How can I just forget everything I did yesterday? I find it strange."
"I don't. Whatever you came to tell me yesterday, must have been high profiled."
I raised a brow. "What do you mean?"
He took in a deep breath. "I've heard of a situation like this. But it happened years and years ago."
"Someone had the same situation?"
"Yeah... Marcus Scully. He was just fifteen at that time, he didn't undergo any brain tumor surgery, neither did he get into any kind of accident that could lead to memory loss. He just woke up and forgot a whole year of his life." Roman explained.
"Maybe it was some kind of illness or something."
"It wasn't." Roman stated. "They traced the issue back to a drug. It's now extinct because of it's danger, it was banned."
"A drug?" I asked.
"Yeah... It was called LT wipe. Long time wipe... It literally cleans the brain." Roman informed. "Back then it was used for the wrong reasons."
"Do you think we were drugged by it?"
He thought about it for a second. "For over a couple of years now, no one has ever mentioned that drug... It's gone extinct, but-- we can't be too sure... All the symptoms points to it. I mean, how can we just forget what we talked about yesterday?"
I licked my dried lips. "But why would anyone want to drug us? What could have been so high profiled that I figured out? I mean, I'm just me."
Roman raked his hands through his hair. "Have you seen anything weird lately? Or Maybe you talked to someone you weren't supposed to? Or Maybe found a site you weren't supposed to visit?" He asked.
Have I seen anything weird lately? Of course not... Except for the fact that I just found out that human robots exists. I haven't talked to anyone that I wasn't supposed to talk to. And.... As for a site visit? I haven't visited any suspicious site since I ordered for Trevor---
"Oh my God." It hit me like a big hammer. What if this has something to do with Trevor? His Inc?
Roman sat up. "What is it? Do you remember something?"
"No... But I think I know what's going on." I doubted.
"What's going on?" He asked, his interest piqued.
I looked around the lab. "Listen Roman, you cannot tell anyone about this-"
"About what?" Another voice interrupted. I turned to find Trevor standing in front of me.
"Trev. Wh-what are you doing here?" I asked, feeling nervous and somewhat guilty that I was about to spill everything to Roman.
"I was looking for you... Someone told me you were in here."
"Oh-"
"Are you busy?" He asked, looking from Roman to me.
"Uh... No. Uh... I was just saying goodbye to Roman."
Trevor's eyes widened a little. "Roman... You're Roman?"
"Yeah." Roman answered with a nod.
Trevor nodded.
"Uh... Roman, I'll text you later." I said to him.
"Okay." He nodded.
Shortly after, Trevor and I got out of the computer lab.
"Really? You wanted to tell him about me?" Trevor asked once we got out of earshot. "About the Inc?"
"Of course not." I answered indignantly, even though I was lying. "Why would I do that?"
"So what were you about to tell him?" He asked me. Looking all serious and somewhat pissed.
"I was- I was planning a surprise party for my parents anniversary which is going to be a month from now. I needed him to take care of some tech stuff... I didn't want anyone else to know about it... It could ruin the surprise." I lied.
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, Trev. Why would I want to tell him that you're a robot? Like he would even believe me." I rolled my eyes.
"No one can find out about it, Ivy... I'm trying to protect you, that's all." He said, and that Statement caught my attention.
"From what?" I asked. "Why would I be in danger? I don't mean to sound rude or anything but- nothing makes sense Trevor. I paid for you, online, in a crazy site, 99% of America doesn't even know about? What should I be running from?" I asked.
He sighed, looking like he was contemplating something before he spoke. "There are things you don't know... Things you can't and shouldn't know, okay?"
"Things like what? What's going on Trev? Why does it feel like I've made a huge mistake ordering you? What should I be so afraid of?"
"You indeed made a huge mistake ordering me cause my Inc isn't as bubbly as it paints itself to be... There are some dark things you can't know about. Some dark things that I tried my best to make you-"
"Forget?" I completed for him. "You're responsible for it, aren't you? My loss of memory? Did I perhaps figure out your dark secret? Was that the reason why you decided to wipe my brain? With LT wipe?"
His eyes widened. "How the hell did you-"
"Find out?" I gasped in disbelief. "So it's true? You used that lethal drug on me? What, because I found out about something you didn't want me to find out?" My voice came out in a whisper. "Did you?"
His jaw clenched. "Ivy, I can explain."
"You can explain? Wha- I can't believe you would do that to me." I accused.
Honestly speaking, I was confused, mad and at the same time hurt.
"I was only trying to protect you Ivy."
"Protect me? Oh God, what have I gotten myself into?" I muttered.
"You knew too much. I didn't want to make things more complicated. I had to do something."
"Cause you didn't trust me enough to keep your secret."
"Why would I trust you? You told Roman about it."
"If I had told Roman about whatever your stupid secret was, I would have known that he wasn't of harm to you. Maybe I had trusted him at that time or maybe I thought your secret wasn't as high profiled as you made it out to be." I said. "What was it anyway? What secret was worth my state of mind?"
"I can't tell you." He simply said. "It's none of your business Ivy."
"None of my business? You made me think I was loosing my mind. You made me think I was hung over. You freaking wiped my memory.... What gives you the right to do that to me? What kind of a machine are you? Are you even one?"
"Ivy-"
"I'm done with you." I said. "I don't care if I graduate highschool without a boyfriend. I honestly prefer being single, cause this is all too complicated. I don't even know what I was thinking."
"So what, you're gonna send me back? I gotta tell you there's no refunds. You're stuck with me." He informed.
I scoffed. "I don't care about refunds. You're a stupid machine who thinks and acts like a human. You could be a cyborg for all I know."
He rolled his eyes. "I'm not a cyborg, Ivy... This is more complicated than you can ever imagine."
"Complicated enough for you to hurt me. All I did was ask for one loyal boyfriend, not a machine who wipes my memory everytime I learn something new about it. I'm not some toy, Trev."
"I Know that okay? And I'm not gonna say I'm sorry. Because I'm so damn sure I did the right thing."
I laughed humourlessly. "Do you even know how much of a jerk you sound like right now?"
"Yeah." He stated.
I gritted my teeth angrily. "You'll pay for this, Trevor. Heavily." I was so pissed that I could punch something!
"What are you trying to say?" He asked.
"I'm trying to say that this isn't over... Infact, it is just beginning. I will stop at nothing to figure out why you used that crazy drug on me, cause as long as I figured it out before, I can do it again." I said, meaning every word that came out of my mouth.
