Ethan
Confused.
I was completely and utterly confused. Although it took me a while to recognize her new looks and everything, but I knew who she was, I knew exactly who she was. But what I didn't understand was why she was standing right in front of me. She died. They all died in that fire.
Why the hell was my mother standing right in front of me?
"Mom!" A girl of about 17 years rushed to our table, pulling my mother away from me, then she turned to look at me apologetically. "I'm so sorry, she's uh- not really okay, I shouldn't have left her side. I'm really sorry." The girl begged.
I didn't respond to it immediately, all I could do was stare at my mother, her eyes, her face, everything I thought I would never see again. "It's okay. It's fine."
"No... Ethan, you remember me right? It's me... It's mommy, Ethan." Her voice faded as the girl took her away from our table.
I couldn't tear my eyes off her until they rounded a corner, away from my view.
What is this supposed to mean? Did Malcolm lie to me? Does the institute know about this?
My jaw clenched as I took my eyes off that direction, only to find Ivy staring at me.
"What?" I asked her.
"You just called that woman, Mom." Ivy stated, her scrutinizing eyes never left mine for a second.
"Did I?" I asked. "I don't remember doing that? Are you sure you heard correctly?"
"I may be stupid Trev, but I'm not that stupid. What the hell was that all about?" Ivy asked, her brows furrowed in confusion and anger.
I sighed. "I don't know... She was a lunatic- she called me Ethan, and we both know that isn't my name right?"
"So then why did you call her mom?" She asked.
"I don't know, I guess it felt like the right thing to do, my instincts told me to do just that, and I went with it... She is clearly suffering from a mental illness, I couldn't just push her away, Ivy?" I explained. "What? Did you think she was like my real mom or something? Ivy, I've told you countless times that I'm a robot not a, human... Come on, I even proved it to you, why do you still have doubts?"
She didn't look like she was buying any of my crap, all she just did was stare.
"Ivy, you ordered for a Robot, and that is what you're getting okay?"
"Okay." She said. "I believe you."
Her lips was saying one thing but her scrutinizing eyes were saying another.
"Okay." I said, looking away.
I needed to go back to the Inc today, no matter the cost.
Inc Dimension
Rebel Sector
I managed to escape the tight security guarding the Rebel sector as I made my way to Malcolm's office.
Once I got there, I opened the door, only to be welcomed with his dark office. He wasn't on sit, so I decided to wait for him.
He had some explaining to do. I was mad at him and at the same time confused, I know he'd be stubborn about it, but I wasn't going to leave his office without answers. Reasonable answers.
I sat on his throne like chair, waiting for him, I closed my eyes, trying to relive this afternoon. The moment she rushed up to me, the moment she held my face in her hands. That moment. I wanted to relive that moment over and over again.
My eyes flew open when I heard the message alert beep on my phone.
Ivy
Hey, I went to your room, few seconds ago, you were sleeping and I didn't want to disturb, I'm off to Kyle's. SYS.
I sat up... Why the hell was she going to see that asshat! Quickly, I typed in a reply.
Me:
What do you mean by you're going over to Kyle's?
After some seconds passed, she replied.
Ivy:
Thought you were asleep?😓
Yeah, my pillows were asleep but I wasn't! I had to sneak out of the house again, I didn't want Ivy questioning me.
Me:
Your text woke me.
Why are you going to Kyle's? Did he call you???
My feet tapped impatiently on the ground as I waited for her reply. When I heard the beep sound, I checked my phone.
Ivy:
No, Janie called, she needed someone to take care of him... She said she was busy with something. You messed Kyle up pretty bad, and it's kinda like my fault so... Maybe helping him will erase my guilt? ☺
What the-
Me:
Don't go over there Ivy, it's not safe.
Ivy:
What do you mean it's not safe? It's just Kyle, stop acting like a jealous boyfriend. (I like it😋) it's not cool! (It is cool😎)
Me:
Ivy come on, I'm not kidding.
Ivy:
Stop being over protective (Don't stop😉) I'll be fine. Now, go back to sleep.
Me:
Be careful Ivy, I mean it.
Ivy: Okay, mom... I will be. TTYL 😘
I relaxed back on Malcolm's chair. Why does it feel like Janie and Kyle are playing a funny game?
Suddenly, the door flew open. I heard a switch sound and immediately, light appeared in his office.
"Hello Malcolm." I announced.
Immediately, Malcolm turned to my direction with wide eyes. "What the hell are you doing here Ethan?" He asked, shutting the door. "Why don't you ever listen to me?"
"Trust me, I didn't want to come back... I just wanted to ask you a question.” I said, standing up.
"Couldn't you have called? You can't just walk in here like you own the place Ethan! You've been given an assignment, carry on with it!" Malcolm fumed.
I contained my anger. "Do I have any family members alive?" I asked him.
His brows furrowed in confusion. "Of course not, why would you even think that?"
"Hmm, I don't know, maybe it's because I ran into someone with the same face as my mother's." I said, staring at him.
"That's impossible."
"Yeah, I thought so too... But then she called me Ethan... I was just wondering if you left out any details of my mother being alive and all...”
Malcolm sighed, probably wondering why I wasn't lashing out to bits.
"Ethan-"
"It's Trevor now." I corrected.
Malcolm rolled his eyes. "Ethan, I have no idea on what you're talking about- I-”
"Stop lying, Damn it!!!” I yelled, slamming my hands on his table. "I know what I saw! My mother was standing right in front of me! What the else does that mean? How the fuck am I supposed to just overlook that! What the hell is fucking going on Malcolm?"
"Ethan, listen-"
"Why didn't you tell me my mother was still alive? Huh? You thought it wasn't important for me to know? Hm?"
"I didn't know until two days after you were brought in Ethan. They told me you lost every of your family members in that building, then I got to find out later on that your mother was still alive... They told me not to tell you anything... I had no choice-”
"No choice? Now, that's just plain bullshit Malcolm! You had so many chances to tell me... Yet all you did was egg me on to learn how to control my chip."
"That is my job! And even if I had told you, what could you have done? They'd never let you out of the Inc, and if you had insisted, they could have killed you."
"I don't care, besides, Glory would rather die than to watch that happen! For heavens sake Malcolm, this is my mother we're talking about! "
"What's done is done, Ethan... There's no changing the past."
I stood there, staring at him with utter disbelief. "I'll never forgive you for this Malcolm... Never." I seethed, walking out of his office.
I needed to find that girl, the one who was with my mother today. There's something more to this... Something Malcolm was hiding.
Few minutes later, I came in through the back door of Ivy's kitchen. My head was swimming with different thoughts as I went to grab a drink from the fridge.
After grabbing the drink, I turned around, only to find Ivy standing in the door way to the kitchen with her arms folded across her chest.
"I see you went on an adventure of your own, Ethan."
