Addicted Memories

Walking into the darkened store, the familiar throbbing on the early 2000's "emo" music blasts its way into my ears. The three of us naturally gravitated towards or respective sections of the store. Josh, quietly following Jessica towards the crop top, yet also far enough he was in his own area an peace of mind. Letting my mind wander freely, I found myself standing in front of the hats, my hand lightly gliding across the different bills, taking in the textures and colors of each.

As my hand slid across the cool, leather feeling and hard silver colored plastic, I flinched. The familiar feeling and weight of the hat, as I picked it up in shaking hands, time seemed to slow down, and my breathing came in short gasps. The flow of memories begging to be forgotten a wave crashing through the careful barriers I crafted with shaking hands.

" Ma'am? Ma'am? Can,... can I uh help you ma'am?" the voice of a worker sounded my my ear jolting me back into the present.

" I,.. I uh ya. Ya no, no I'm fine thanks. Just looking.", I answered, a tight smile stretched across my features.

With a small nod and a smile, the black clad worker turned, their colored hair lifting slightly from the sudden gust of air as they turned around and walked off to help another customer. Gently placing the double, toned hat back in its place among the various others. I turned on my heel slowly, and made my way to the back, ducking the various other customers an miscellaneous things hung around the store.

Walking along the side wall, I found myself in front of the piercings section. I could do with a new septum, been a while since I put a new one in, I thought, pulling different ones that caught my eyes out an examining them. Deciding finally on one that looked like chain links, and one that looked like a row of daises, I made my way to the front, paying for the piercings.

Finding Jessica, and Josh, we made our way out of the store and into the food court area to get some food.

"Show us your new piercings!", Jessica exclaimed, as she sat down at our table, her Chinese in tow.

Sighing, dramatically, I pulled the bag out of my checkered black bag. Laying them down, I laughed as Jessica made a huge exclamation about how cute they were, and of course, posting everything on her social media pages.

Laughing, me an Josh rolled our eyes at her antics, laughing as she flung pieces of food at us.
