I literally just watched Your Name and I have to say, I can now see why so many people love it. It's not better than Weathering With You, that's for sure. But it's definitely earned a spot in my top 5 favourite anime. So let's break it down.

Okay, let's start with the big one first. The visuals and the use of colour in this movie. This movie is beautiful. It is a visual spectacle. Every scene in this movie can be a wallpaper. I'm not kidding. The use of vibrant colours from the wide landscape shots to the more personal close up shots are all beautiful because if the great use of colour and the smooth animation. This movie is beautiful and that is still and understatement.

The main characters, Taki and Mitsuha are both amazing and well developed. Both their stories and character arcs were well done. And I really liked it when (minor spoiler) they 'switched'. Moving on, I was kinda disappointed with how underdeveloped the side characters were in this movie. But overall, every character was likeable and are each unique. I would gush about it all day but unfortunately, I need to finish this review.

Alright, now let's get to the story. The story was amazing. It starts off pretty lighthearted. And when I say pretty, I mean pretty. I MEAN, HAVE YOU SEEN THE MOVIE?! IT'S BEAUTIFUL- sorry, sorry. See? I'm still blown away by the visuals. Anyway, the story starts off lighthearted. But then, shit gets real. In the middle of the movie, the characters are sort of 'seperated' and can't contact each other. What happens afterwards is literally the BIGGEST FUCKING PLOT TWIST EVER. Like, seriously, I can't. I'm still not over it. I seriously can't believe it happened.

Anyway, the story takes twists and turns. It can be heartwarming but it can also be heartbreaking. And it can also be both at the same time.

Look, okay, Your Name is just amazing. I seriously can't deal with the fact that this movie wasn't in my life for THREE WHOLE YEARS!

Alas, it isn't a perfect movie. While the characters by themselves were amazing, the romance between Taki and Mitsuha isn't really that well developed. This may come as a shocker but they don't really share a lot of screen time together. So that kinda affects the relationship that Makoto Shinkai was trying to build there.

Ultimately, Your Name is a great movie but it has flaws which are then later fixed in Makoto Shinkai's next work, Weathering With You.

I'm sorry if I compared this movie to Weathering With You too much. I can't help it. As you know, both movies were directed by Makoto Shinkai. And I can't help but notice that while Your Name is great, Shinaki managed to improve many of the problems that was present in Your Name and just isn't in Weathering With You. This shows that Shinkai himself learns and improves as a director. I will love Your Name and cherish it. And I look forward to future projects that Shinkai has in store for us.
