The Dragon of Russia
Author: @xDARAG0N0Vax
So, I'll be honest with you. Starting your book I wasn't sure what to expect. Your blurb was definitely intriguing but I hadn't really read a book like yours before. I've actually not read a single action book on Wattpad yet, (nor anywhere else for that matter). So yeah, I didn't really no what to expect. Now that I've read it, I will say your book is Fantastic! :)
Cover, Title and Blurb:
So like I said earlier, your blurb is definitely intriguing. It's basically what made me decide to read and review it which is great! The blurb is one of the first things a reader sees about a book and the fact that yours made me won't to read your book without even having to see the cover of the book is amazing! The title is not so eye catching. "The Dragon of Russia" could be about anyone or anything. In fact the title seems to suggest that the genre of the book is Fantasy rather than Action. However, once it began to read the book, I realized that the title is perfect for your book! (So no I don't think you need to change it, I just thought you should know). The cover too seems to show that this is a Fantasy book. It doesn't exactly instantly catch one's attention but it does match the covers of the other two books, so I think it's perfectly fine. Basically the blurb balances out both the title and the cover so I think your totally fine in this section!
Grammar:
Just a few errors here and there which aren't very obvious. I did noticed one or two comments mentioning the fact that some sentences are lacking words or aren't quite clear. I think you should just read over a few of the beginning chapters or even the comments and you'll be able to find the errors. Don't worry though, the mistakes are mostly only in the first few chapters and are really small. Aside from this your grammar, punctuation and sentences structure is nearly perfect! It was a pleasure reading your book, it literally felt like I was reading a proper published book from a bookstore! (Not really undermining Wattpad here, I hope you get what I mean).
Flow:
The flow is superb! The story flows smoothly and at the perfect pace. You reveal things slowly and at just the right moment which always caught me by surprise yet it always made sense. You set up things really well in previous chapters so that when they happen the reader is almost but not quite expecting them! Great job on that! Honestly, there is nothing more to say about the flow. The way you have written the book is amazing!
Characters:
I simply adore Leila, Phoenix and all! I love strong, empowered heroines and I can honestly say that Leila is one of the best I've ever come across. The fact that she is basically a cop (and one of the best) is amazing! You've developed her character fantastically. I get that you probably began in the first book and by now you've been able to almost fully form her character but even in this book I could see her character growing and developing. Her heartbreak over the death of David, her daily struggle with controlling the Phoenix and her instability really help the reader in appreciating the change her character goes through upon meeting Dragunov and the rest of the Spetsnaz. Great job!
Dragunov's character is great too. I would say he's my second favourite character but that spot is Alek's :)!! I like the fact that you didn't immediately provide a back story for him but instead eased the reader into it. When you did reveal his story, it was at the perfect moment and very well done. It didn't feel as though you were just overloading the reader with information.
The rest of the characters are very well developed as well. Each character is different and unique with their own story. Honestly, I couldn't find a single fault in any of the characters. You've done one of the best jobs I've seen as far as flow, characters and creativity are concerned. The rest of the sections are good too but you've really done wonders with these three sections! :)
Other Thoughts:
I love the way you describe the police headquarters in the second chapter. Instead of just describing what everything looks like for the heck of it, you paint a great picture while simultaneously giving a backstory to why it looks the way it looks and also managing to insert tidbits of information on Leila and the Captain's character. Honestly, I can't praise you enough for it!
The events of the chapter "Happening Again" really shook me, I won't lie. Spoiler or not I will say I was in tears. My only question: why!? I definitely didn't see it coming till it actually happened! I expected something but was sure it had something to do would Dragunov. So if you were going for a shocking (heart wrenching I might add) twist? You hundred percent succeeded. However I'm seriously considering never forgiving you for it ;). Now that I've got that out of my system, I like how you foreshadowed this in the chapter "Dream or Premonition". I can't believe I dismissed that at first as nothing but a nightmare! In fact your whole book was littered with foreshadowings which really enhanced the reading experience!
I also really love the way you end your chapters. Somehow you always know where to end.
I didn't read the first book before reading this one. This book was pretty long and I wanted to get the review done early as I have a lot of things coming up this week (in real life). I found that you revealed enough about the events of the first book for me to be able to read and appreciate this book. However, I will definitely be reading both the first and third book as soon as I can as I really love your story! :)
Advice:
There is no advice I can give you except that you should just read over your book to find the small mistakes and edit them. Other than that you are doing a spectacular job. One thing though is that while there are a lot of reads and votes on your book (congrats on that), very few people have commented. Personally I think feedback on one's book is very important for a writer so I would recommend joining a book club. I know I keep recommending this too everyone but I really think it helps a lot. It really helped me, still does. A really great book club I'm in is "CARTA" by @ccreationz. If you want to check it out you'll find it in my reading list "contests, clubs etc" :)
So this is a really long review, longer than I've ever written, but then your book was long too :) Overall, you write really well and your story completely draws the reader in and hooks them all the way to the end. (I've been reading it non stop for hours!). Your plot is incredible, different and new. I just love everything about your book and can't wait to read on!
I really recommend this book to anyone reading! You won't be able to put it down, I promise!
I really hope this review helped a little though your doing spectacularly anyway! Good Luck on your future books, you've done amazingly well with this one! Here's to hoping you get published, you seriously deserve it! -Rose
