Chapter 4 : Unexpected
SEOL AH : What is this?
She wondered taking one of the stacked packets of sanitary napkins that flushed all her angst at once. There were four different kinds of finest qualities with four packets of each, lined up neatly.
SEOL AH : (-trying not to take the blame-) Well, if these are for our use, shouldn't we be told about it? Or maybe be mentioned in the manual atleas-
Her words were cut off by a very realization that she never studied it in the first place. She, keeping the packet in the cabinet, headed back to her bed fetching the manual on her way.
On searching, she stopped right at the column under "washroom", which in clear description sighted about the napkins available in the washroom cabinets. With four different types for preference, there was also a request box near the main door if one needed a specific brand.
"He respects and takes care of everything that concerns his employees."
"He is the best out there you'll know."
With these recollection of Kim's praiseful words for Namjoon, she drenched more in guilt for cursing out at him earlier.
SEOL AH : I respect him for providing this facility. But, how am I supposed to know? Who DOES that?!
She attempted to whine out a little repenting on her mindless actions but was cold spined in the fear of staining her bed.
Bottling herself up, she spent the rest of the evening thoroughgoing over the entire ten paged manual.
Clicking her neck after deep screening every details of it, she saw the time to be a 15 minutes past the dinner hour.
With a few long breaths and passing herself to be presentable enough, she walked out of her room only to lose her breath at the sight. Namjoon was dined only a few steps away from her. Apparently her room and the dining area was spaced with a length of the kitchen in between.
Although he felt her presence in the straight proximity, he didn't look up from his food.
Heedful of quiet steps, she reached the table where he was peacefully munching over his ordered food.
Heart slightly thumping and taking nervous gulps, she settled herself in the farthest seat, the diagonal one from him.
She didn't wait for him to ask her take a seat for there was a point in the manual to drop the formalities with him in the dining.
SEOL AH : I-.. I don't know if you've heard it. But, I was sorry for calling you.. (-looks down at her hands-)
NJ : (-completing her words-) A "Jerk"?
SEOL AH : (-snaps at him-) You h-heard it?
NJ : You shouldn't have shouted that if you didn't want me to hear it.
SEOL AH : (-guilty-) I am really sorry~
NJ : It's okay. (-looking at her with softened eyes-) You're not the worst.
Seol Ah was intrigued by the foreign feel in his tone that pronounced the last words. She hunched a lot behind that simple line but couldn't sound her curiosity- her fault dominating everything at that moment.
In a few minutes, Namjoon was done with his dinner and headed to the kitchen to do his dishes while Seol ah quietly watched him on her right, the straight view that lead to it.
After a while, she whipped back instantly at the perception of Namjoon approaching her and faked examining the lights above the table.
NJ : I ordered 2 Dak-kalguksu. Yours is in the kitchen. You can have it or order something for yourself.
He informing her about the food, casually started walking to his studio when Seol Ah, in a quickie, wished out a goodnight.
Namjoon didn't look back but just nodded as he vanished to the other side of the black door letting her drop a sigh.
Slowly the aroma of the delicious chicken noddle soup reached her senses luring her to rush to the kitchen.
Satisfying her hunger well, in a while, she was back in her bed with the laptop ready for its thorough speculation.
The first thing to come into her notice was a folder that contained all the required information nicely detailed out by his last manager. Once regretting her carelessness, she obediently read through everything it had to get in acquaintance with his workings.
Done with the boring stuff, she almost squealed seeing a chrome browser of the few icons in the desktop screen.
SEOL AH : (-trying to reach her social medias-) Eh? Everything except google is blocked?
With nearly no expectations, she typed in for YouTube, primarily to only learn if she was blocked from using that as well.
SEOL AH : (-smiles-) I am not? (-exhales the breath she was holding-) I am not Blocked from YOUTUBE!!
Quite fast, she calmed herself down and logged in to her channel account only for her smile getting wider to see all the flooding notifications she received from her viewers.
She warmed her fingers ready to appreciate and reply to all the comments, or so overestimated by her.
However after a short while, she stopped- almost exhausting her fingers and herself that she tried to ease with some oblique muscle stretch.
A sudden thought appeared as she returned to her normal posture and typed that in a new window.
SEOL AH : (-reading the first result she searched-) "Bangtan Sonyeondan...
A certain numbing gloom wound over her mood eyeing through the numerous articles about different thesis of their Disbandment. Some said it was brought about in good terms with the septet, while some spoke about the rumors that a serious dispute resulted their disbandment.
She further diverted her attention to their achievements and the impact of BTS, the world experienced a good shake from.
Did she regret not knowing about them before?
She didn't.
Atleast, she wanted to believe it that way.
She widened her mentality that it was of no loss that she wasn't a part of such crucial and influential hours.
A few links, next, lead her to YouTube and slowly, with an unconscious will, she refined her recommendations- limiting it to Namjoon's videos only.
Even if few included all the members, Namjoon was by default her reference point as she lost the count of time- binge watching the neverending videos until the moments were repeated.
"Jinaga.."
(It will pass..)
"Eonjenga.."
(Someday..)
"Bhumyeonghi..."
(For sure...)
"Hwakshuerhi..."
(Most definitely...)
Her eyes shot open from the sleep she didn't realize when she drifted into, last night.
Confused gaze roamed around the unfamiliar surroundings, slowly to recall where she was and the reason following by at the reception of morning.
Her eyes from the window diverted to her right on the laptop, almost running out of battery and playing a list of Namjoon's solo songs.
She nearly received a heart attack at the big gasp she took seeing the time.
It was 9 a.m., the hour at which she was to report in his studio positively, but the fact that she was still lying on her bed freaked her souls out.
Her heart thumped wildly even at the thought of facing him this late on her very first day. And with him, it was ever more dreadful to her.
Seol Ah flew in such a rush with everything that she had no registered memories between waking up till walking to his studio.
The only ones she remembered were pausing the playlist in her laptop and the next, knocking at his door while anxiously waiting for an approval.
NJ : Come in.
She, at once, bent her trunk in right angles to her bottom as Seol Ah entered, opening the door.
The vague visage of her perceived by the corner of Namjoon's eyes threatened his heartbeats at the weirdness of her posture.
However, he contained himself well and breathed in deep to pace down his heart.
NJ : Wh- why are you standing like that?
SEOL AH : (-still bowing-) I am extremely sorry for being late. Please, spare me this one time.
NJ : You can stand up straight. It's okay.
SEOL AH : (-straightens instantly-) Did you say it was okay?
NJ : Ears, not confident enough?
SEOL AH : No-.. yea-.. (-confused-)
Seol Ah was totally baffled seeing him strangely calm on a matter, that in this world, no boss is ever easy about. Unless, he was not from earth, she answered herself but immediately flushed her stupid thoughts.
NJ : (-arranging some music sheets-) Anyways, had your breakfast?
SEOL AH : Um-.. It's okay. I am not hungry- (-stomach growls-)
She, instantly, covered her abdomen as if that would stop her distinctive growls from reaching Namjoon.
NJ : (-chuckles-) I suppose, you will need time. (-aligning the sheets-) See you at 10.
He, with the sheets, wheeled his chair towards the piano leaving her rooted to her place, quietly following all his movements.
Namjoon, caught up with setting the sheets into the holder, didn't realize she was still there bewildered by his unexpected conduct.
He next landed his slender fingers on the smooth white keys of the piano, ready to give the composition a try.
Omitting all his anxiousness aside, he began to apply pressure on the keys that sang, to him, the specific notes he played.
Seol Ah experienced a piloerection at the sharp chilly beginning of the musical piece, only for it to drop down as it swum a few notes in.
The soft melody now soothed her insides, gradually relaxing her goosebumps.
She was indulging further into the enchanting music with closed eyes.
However, instant frown flashed on her face as he abruptly stopped. She almost whined out her displeasure but held her lips tight, gulping down her complaints.
Namjoon, not satiated with a certain note, picked the pen to change it in the sheets. Upon altering it, he noticed Seol Ah's reflection on the black gleamy body of his upright piano.
NJ : (-seeing the time-) 30 minutes it is.
Seol Ah, receiving his words like an alarm, got herself out of his studio right away.
Successively as the day progressed hour by hour, both were busy doing their respective works. One in his studio while the other right outside in the hall.
Seol Ah's work included, dealing appointments with producers and directors if Namjoon would make appearances in Television shows, agree to personal meetings and all other fronts concerned with them. Planning his daily schedules. And lastly, maintaining his YouTube profile and other social media platforms where his new songs and mini albums are released.
Making a few alters in the task sheet as she ended the call with a producer, she walked up to his room with the final draft.
Knocking twice, she pushed herself in as he limited her to the knocks and asked to enter right after, without hassling him about an approval everytime.
She found him drinking his coffee facing the glass wall in his short break and marched to him voluntarily.
SEOL AH : Here's your schedule for tomorrow.
Namjoon, taking a sip, laid hold on the small notepad with his right hand which was previously tucked inside his pockets.
Having him occupied looking through his schedule, Seol Ah, turned to leave. But, only to notice the shelf of books standing next to the door on the left side of the room.
The big collection, that she missed to gather an eye of last time, amazed her as she moved forward to it.
Running her keen view on the entire collection, she envied a little for her own being smaller than his. However, the former didn't fail to fascinate her regardless.
NJ : Postpone the meetin~...
Busy smiling over and recalling memories of the few common ones that she has read too, she didn't register Namjoon's words.
NJ : (-clearing his throat-) Seol Ah-ssi?
SEOL AH : (-snapped back and turns almost stumbling-) Yes? I am sorry, I will pay more attention next time.
She accepted her faults and apologized without needing Namjoon to spend his energy on discipline talks.
Seol Ah was a right choice, he casually thought to himself before proceeding. What he didn't know was - with all her past failures, she was accustomed to apologize first to avoid the severity of her superior's chastise.
NJ : Postpone the meeting with Mr.Park to atleast a week or so. I am not prepared enough to meet him yet.
SEOL AH : Will be done. (-walks ahead to get her notepad-) Anything else, sir?
NJ : No, that will be it.
SEOL AH : (-nods-) Oka-
She was cut off by a sudden door bell buying her attention towards it. Briefly after, she returned to Namjoon who was staring at her without any words.
SEOL AH : (-hunching the meaning of his stare-) I, open the door?
NJ : (-nods and gets back to his work-) Appreciate it.
Seol Ah, slightly bowing to him, left his room to get the visitor - leaving the notepad on the couch table on her way.
Opening the door, she welcomed a beautiful lady in her early 20s.
??? : Where is Oppa?
_________
Oo! Suspicious lady? Who would it be? ;)
