Chapter Sixteen.

Jamie and Lena circled each other, waiting for one of them to attack. It was Sunday and they were both bored. Darien couldn’t do anything today since Ash made him stay and do homework he has to do. Lena was okay with that, didn’t want to be the type to be up his butt all the time.

Wanna explain to me how that jerk and you became boyfriend and girlfriend?, Jamie asked.

He accepted that he wanted me, I forgive him. I am the one who does believe in second chances, she thought. Now lay off with all the staring at me.

He was the first one to set off attacking and he got Lena to the ground. She tried to bit at his neck, but she couldn’t quite reach it, He hurt you, Lena!

I know, Jamie, but now he makes me happy, she thought. Just give him a chance, under all the thick skin of rebelliousness, he’s a sweet guy. Now get off me!, she growled and bit his arm instead. He yelped and got off her.

She attacked him and bit into his neck, not enough to cause him amount of pain, but enough to her.

He used his claws to scratched her and backed away, I don’t care! You’re my sister, no one get to hurt you and just get away with it. You were miserable the last two weeks.

Now I’m not!, she yelled. Back off, Jamie, she said. Now if your going to keep going on about, I’m going home.

No, he said. Do you know what dad or the others would do if they found if he didn’t want you, rejecting you? They’ll go more wolf on him then me!

Don’t tell!, she growled. If you do, I wont talk to you ever again! He was stupid and now he understand he needs me.

He doesn’t know the real you, he said and Lena glared him.

I’m going to tell him soon, she said. You should know what it’s like, I have to wait long enough to be sure I can trust him with this secret.

If you really trusted him, you would tell him the second he got here. I told Sophie the three days after I turned and she never told anyone ever since, he said.

You don’t get it, Jamie! I’m the only girl in the family, my mate is a human boy! I have no one to talk about this. You know what, just leave and go back to Sophie!, she snapped before sitting down and as she shifted back into her human form, she covered her breast with her hands, kept her legs closed, and continued to glare at Jamie.

Jamie sat down and changed back, covering his lower half, “What is that suppose to mean, Lena?”, he asked.

“Before all you wanted to do was be with Sophie ever since you graduated. You never wanted to go out running  with me anymore. I have already lost all my brother from them moving on and starting their own lives. I thought I had you, Jamie, but you forgot all about me. I was so lonely and finally when my mate comes along, you don’t want me to be with him because he made a mistake.”, she said.

“Lena, come on!”, he yelled. He looked like he was about to say something, but paused, and took a deep breath, “Okay, I’ll admit, I have been spending less time with you. I know there no one else here to run with you. I knew I was doing it, but I didn’t know how much it was hurting you. You could have just called me up and ask me to come.”.

“I didn’t want to be a bother. And I didn’t want to ask, I just want you to come around.”, she said. “But now you only been coming around just to make sure I’m even still alive.”.

“Could you blame me?”, he asked. “All the sadness and locking yourself in your room when you came home, it was scaring me. We’ve heard those stories of female wolves who mates rejected them cause they were from another class or the male would ignore the bond.”.

“Well now I’m happy.”, she said. “Yes, Darien is an asshole, but I’m trying to change that. He has a dark past and I just want to help him. He’s always angry and I know there’s more to what he told me. But I can make him happy, I know I do when his eyes brighten up. Don’t worry about me anymore, Jamie, I’m not eleven years old anymore. I’m a big girl now.”.

He looked at me closely for a moment before signing, “Okay, okay, I trust you. I still don’t like the dude, though.”.

She smiled, “It’s okay, neither do the others. But that’s just because he’s also still a boy and I’m ya’ll little sister.”, she said. “Now that it’s all settled, can we get back to wrestling? My wolf still want to kick your butt.”.

“You wolf thinks she’s to tough.”, Jamie said. “Always trying to be one of the boys.”.

“Can you blame her?”, she shrugged. “I did grow up with five brothers and grow up like a tomboy for most of my life. Just being one of the boys is naturally and she competitive.”.

He chuckled and they changed back to their wolves. In the end, Jamie won…this time.

                                                                ~_~_~

When Lena walked into the Sophomore hallway and was sadden when she remember Darien wouldn’t be here until Wednesday, she would spend the next two days miserable here. And her soccer practices is after school cause next week is the last game. She sighed, but ready to get this day through. Now she really wishes Darien had a cell phone.

When she got to her locker, Becca quickly made her way over to her, “Where have you been?”, she asked. “I text you like five times over the weekend.”.

“I was busy.”, she said. “Look, Becca, I can’t always talk to you, I do have other things I’m suppose to do.”.

“You mean you what to do.”, she said. “But anyways, I wanted to talk to you about Darien. What does he like? I mean, I’m not changing my hair but I could do a little outfit change. Maybe turn into a badass like Kristy Jenner. Oh, and Joey texted me yesterday to, wondering where you were.”.

When Lena was reaching for her book, she paused and cursed under her breath. Right, Joey, she thought. This is not going to be pretty.

She grabbed her book and got up, “Um, well, I could go find him now.”, she said. Now she felt stupid for ever using Joey cause now this part is going to be so hard. They never really made it official to date anyways, it shouldn’t be that hard. Right?

When she closed her locker door to get away from Becca, she was surprised to see Becca following. She paused and turned to Becca, confused, “Yes?”.

“I’m coming with you.”, she said. “We haven’t spent much time together anymore.”.

That because you want my mate, she thought. “Well, actually, Becca, I want to see him alone.”.

“Oh,”, she said, then winked at her. “I get it. We’ll talk later about Darien and Joey.”, she said, blowing a kiss to Lena before turning and walked away.

Lena just sighed and continued on her way to the end of the hall where Joey was hanging out with his friend. His back was to her and she felt nervous each step closer to him, what his reaction could be. She knows he likes her very much, but Lena just doesn’t feel the same back.

When she was behind him, she tapped his shoulder and he turned his head around first and when he realized it was her, he smile and turned. The black eye was mostly gone now, but that made her feel guilty about doing this. He took a punch because of what she did.

“Can I talk to alone for a second?”, she asked.

“Sure.”, he said and they walked off into a quite corner by the windows where no on was really around. “What’s up?”.

“Um,”, she said, rubbing her arm. She didn’t know how to start it, she doesn’t know what to say. She never did this before. She wondering why it’s so hard to explain to him that her feels for Darien are strong and the feels for him aren’t. Why is it so hard to think it then say it?, she questioned herself. “Joey, I think we should stop hanging out.”.

He happy mood turn confused, “What? Lena, what do you mean? Is it because I couldn’t make it to your game last week? Which, congrats, I heard you won.”.

“Thanks.”, she said awkwardly. “But no, that isn’t the reason. It’s just. . .after Thursdays, I think it’s a bad idea for us to hang out.”.

He looked more confused, “Thursday? Because of Call hitting me? Is it because I didn’t fight back because I would have if I didn’t get surprised by it.”.

“No, no, of course not.”, she said. “I wouldn’t want you to cause I can’t stand violence, I’m happy you didn’t. It’s just…Darien, is…”.

“Wait, hold up.”, he said. “Lena, come on, just spit it out whatever you trying to say. Darien what? You still have a thing for him or something?”.

She bit down on her lower yes, “Yes.”, she said, reaching out to touch his arm, “Joey, I’m sorry—“

He pulled back as if her skin burnt him and he stepped back, “Your sorry? You used me just to make him jealous.”.

She couldn’t deny that and she look down at her shoes, ashamed. “I didn’t mean to hurt you, I wasn’t thinking when I decided to do.”.

“Wow, I never thought Miss Perfect could do something like that.”, he said, sounding disgusted and made. “And you did to make that Barbarian jealous?”, he asked. “Why do you even like him, Lena? He’s an asshole, a jerk who always sarcastic? He’s nothing but a low life guy coming from the slums.”.

She looked up at him, wanting to go all wolf on him for assaulting her mate, “You wouldn’t understand. You don’t know Darien.”.

“And neither do you.”, he said. “Been here only two week and whatever he did to make to you want him took him only that long. I’ve known you since first grade.”.

“Joey, I’m sorry. If I could go back and stop myself, I would! But we all make mistake. We’re not meant to be, I’m sorry.”, she said.

“And you think you two belong together?”, he asked. “Lena, he’s going to break your heart sooner or later. He’s a city boy, their all players.”.

“Just because he doesn’t have a nice car and a fancy house doesn’t mean your any better then him!”, she said. “And like I said, you wouldn’t understand. He’s more important then just liking him.”.

“You know what,” he said, stepping back. “I don’t need to hear this. But when he finally breaks your heart and you understand he isn’t so amazing as you think he is, don’t come running to me.”, he said, turning and left.

Her hands balled into a fist as she grimace at his back, Believe me, I wont!

                                                                ~_~_~

When Darien heard knocking at his door, he got up from the couch with a grin on his face, “Your early, don’t you have practice to go to and—”, he cut himself off and stared at Lena friend, Becca, in surprised when he opened the door.

She leaned against the door frame with a smile on her face. She was wearing a tank top that must’ve have been two size to small for her, a push up bar, a leather jacket, and black skinny jeans. Her makeup was dark and her platinum blonde hair was in wavy curls. “Surprised?”, she asked. “Sorry I wasn’t whoever you were expecting, but I thought I just come over and see how you are.”.

“How’d you find out where I live?”, he asked her.

“People around talk.”, she said. “It was kind of easy.”, she said, letting herself in as she walked around him.

“Does Lena know you’re here?”, he asked.

“Nope.”, she said, popping the P. “And oh, I heard she got in some fight with Joey. Something about you, but you know what, I don’t care.”.

Darien eyebrows were together as he looked at Lena friend. What is she doing? And why is she taking off her jacket?, he questioned himself.

“I just want to let you know, Darien.”, she said. “Lena is a goody to shoes kind of girl. She isn’t worth it.”.

“Worth what?”, he questioned, leaning against the door and crossed his arm over his chest. “Why are you even here?”.

“Sleep with her, duh.”, she said. “Why else would you want to be around her? I get it, she’s a pretty girl.”, she said, holding her hands up for a second. “Everyone love her, she’s miss perfect. Gets good grades, have a family famous family here in Nash, plays a sport, gorgeous, and knows how to keep her virginity.”, she said, looking annoyed at the way she talk about Lena. “She walks around acting as if she doesn’t realize how perfect she is, but she knows she is! She tries so hard to make me look like a slut while she prances around like Miss America of the year!”.

Darien stayed still, his lips pressed together. He eyes Becca closely and if she didn’t have a ton of makeup on and black eyeliner, he would have been able to tell how high the chick was. He couldn’t easily tell when people were on cloud nine. He likes to get on cloud nine himself.

He leaned up from the door, “Becca, your stoned. Get out of here now.”.

She walked up to Darien, “Stoned? No I’m not. Okay, maybe a tiny bit, but my head okay! I promise. Now back to Lena, she isn’t as perfect as you think. She such a bad friend when I saw you first! She doesn’t even like most of the boys at school, so how does she just easily get to have you? You two are so very different, but me and you, we’re just the same.”.

“Becca, leave before I kick you out myself.”, he said, pushing her away lightly when she was only two inches away. He opened the door for her even to be a gentlemen, “Now.”.

She crossed her arms stubbornly, “No. Lena can’t have everything she wants.”.

“You’re a bad friend.”, he said and she snorted.

He sighed and walked around, grabbing her jacket, walked up to her, and threw it at her. He has seen so many ‘Becca’s’ in his life to know this chick wont leave.

She huffed, but walked over to the door, “Watch it, Darien. Lena the kind to want to change and fix things. She a perfectionist, I wouldn’t be surprised if she tired to change you into something she wants soon.”.

“That wont happen.”, he said, closing the door on her and it was a moment before he heard her shoes walking down the hall. No one gonna change me, not even Lena.
