CELEBRATION!
The smell hits you before any trace of doubt could appear. Still, you look down at the paper decorated with food motifs and stickers just in case, you know, someone else is cooking up...whatever that is.
You sniff the air again. And again. There's no doubt that the smell is food, but what kind? It has savoury notes, a sweetness, elements of all the spices you can think of, a sour tang... It smells like everything and nothing at the same time. You speed up your pace, anxious to find the culinary culprit.
Rounding the corner, you just know that this party won't be like the others before. Unlike the huge mansions and banquet halls that had been the settings then, this one was a restaurant. Scratch that--judging from the strobe lights and people spilling from establishments all up and down the street, this wasn't just limited to the seeming headquarters of the party.
Your thoughts are interuppted by a sudden crash ringing out from the second floor of the restaurant. Glass patters like raindrops on the ground below. Startled, you look up, searching for what caused it.
A girl is hanging from the window, arms crossed over her head protectively. A group of people are desperately holding onto her, some focused on drawing her back inside, some berating her for what a God-awful idea that was... Whatever THAT was. She heeds the latter--no, both--no attention other than to insist a few times that she would've been perfectly fine. Once she decides she's had her fill of that (approximately fifteen seconds of listening), she uncrosses her arms and waves them, still upside down, still hanging out a window, and still grinning. It takes you a moment to realize that one, it's none other than the hostess, and two, she's waving at you. You smile and wave back with less enthusiasm, though that isn't saying much, all things considered.
One cleanup, two flights of stairs, and four accidental trips to the basement later, you've joined up with Geeky and the tall, brown haired man who you remember vaguely as being at the forefront of the Save Geeky From Doing Stupid Stuff team at the window. He's still talking about how worried he was and how bad of an idea the entire jumping out of a window to meet a friend thing was, albeit between bites of food.
"Oh, come on, Stahl! It was awesome!" is her defense. She turns back to you. "Right! So, welcome to the party! Come on, guess the theme!"
"Umm... Panic at the Restaurant?" you say. She grins.
"Nice. Close to the real thing, too! Last time I threw a party, someone asked me to dedicate the next one to one of my favourite subjects!" She shuts her mouth just before elaborating. "I guess I should tell everyone this... Stahl! A lift, if you would, Amore Mio!" She climbs on his back, swiping an obvious rush job of a temporary P.A. system on the way up. Once fully mounted, she flicks it on.
"Goooooood evening, folks, and welcome! I just wanted to thank you all for coming! And, of course, sticking with me this entire way. No, seriously. I don't know why you decided to, but there are no words to describe how happy I am that you did. You guys are the absolute best, and don't you forget it, okay? I love you!"
She's beaming out at the crowd, and you can tell that she meant every word.
"So please, guys, enjoy the party! You all deserve it!" She reaches to switch off the system. You clear your throat, hoping that's enough to make her remember the question she was going to answer in the announcement. By some stroke of luck, it is. "Ah, right! I bet you're wondering WHAT the party is, right?" Cheers from around the room almost cover the muted ones from outside. "Well, it's a certain necessity, and it sure ain't sleep! I'm talking about food here! We're gathered here today to join your stomach and food from every corner of the map together in holy tastiness, so explore, meet up, and eat! Thank youuu, everyone!" With that, she switches off the system, putting it back on the wall.
"Well said!" you say, clapping. Geeky grins, face a little red from talking in front of people.
"Thanks! And stop with your hive giving yourself! High five me!" She sticks her hand out and you oblige. She laughs a bit, ruffling her boyfriend's already messy hair lovingly.
"So... You wanna go eat?" she asks as music begins playing.
You grin and nod. "For sure."
