A Day in the Life of a Frustration Agent

I logged into hireanagent.com, and checked my requests page. Scrolling through the inbox, I clicked on the oldest request. Thirteen hours ago.

One of my work colleagues is really getting on my nerves. Could you please paint her front door with a streak of a slightly different shade of red than what is currently there? Don't make it obvious, and if you can, find a way to make it permanent or at least difficult to remove. Thanks.

I got in contact with the person, and we agreed on a price. Once I had the address, I set out to the nearest shop that sold paint. Armed with a couple of different shades and a paintbrush, I allowed Google maps to take me to my destination. I completed the job within thirty seconds, but now to make it permanent. I went back to the shop and got some wood varnish, and after another two minutes the job was truly done. I stepped back and admired my handiwork.

Perfect. Not easy to notice at first, but once you saw it, you couldn't unsee it. They wouldn't be able to get that off without taking off all the varnish and ruin the entire paint job on the door. Now it was back to home, and to contact the person for payment. Three hours later, and I now had an extra £60 in my bank account.

Now to do it all over again, with a different victim.

I enjoyed writing that! It's not my best piece, by a long way, but it was fun imagining. It's a very short flash fiction, about 270 words.
