Chapter 97 Review (SPOILERS)

Of course this will contain major spoilers, please don't read if you didn't read the latest chapter of AoT.

I think this chapter is extremely important and full of informations. We learn a lot about the characters evolution in the past four years but also their feelings before that for some of them, about the past history of Marley, about the Teiber family and the political situation in Marley, which is important for the future plot.

That's a bit strange, but everything I was hoping to see in the story was here. We had some development for Annie and Bertholdt, but mostly Reiner. And that's good. We see his regrets, and that he almost killed himself for that. And the only reason why he didn't is because he wanted to help Falco and the other young warriors. There is also a discreet bubble where Reiner seems to be sad that Eren was the Coordinate, probably because he knew that it would be even harder to betray him because he was a good comrade, a friend. Like all his comrades by the way... He was crying when Marco was getting eaten. He was also a victim of his own dual personality disorder. The "true" personality of Reiner is the one he has now, with his regrets, his sadness and that makes that he is not manipulated by the other Marleys anymore, and he sometimes even lie to them and seems to know more than the others about the way they use them, and he doesn't believe all they say to them, he just tells them what they want to hear although he is aware of the Marley propaganda and manipulation. I'm relieved that Reiner has learned from his experience in Paradise Island, and he is now one of my favorite characters for this interesting evolution.

We also learn more about the political situation in Marley, and a bit more about its history. I'm looking forward more informations about the devil of the Earth and its legend. We find out that all Marley was controlled by the Teiber Family, and honestly they seem to be the reak badies instead of the Marley warriors that are just manipulated. Especially the owner of the Warhammer Titan, he looks to be a bad guy in every way. I'm still waiting to know more about his goals though.

But what I loved the most in this chapter is Eren. Thanks Isayama. I was hoping so much to be right when I was saying that he would become a serious and mature man, and it even exceeded my expectations... He is perfect. He is exactly how I was imagining him after the time skip, maybe even more evolved. He is aware of the situation in Marley, he is not blaming them anymore, or at least not all of them because for example he kinda became friend with Falco. By the way, I think that Falco looks a lot than Eren with his dreams that seem unattainable to him. The author made it on purpose because Falco said the exact same words than Eren when he was younger, and both of them were talking about how they are too weak to accomplish a single thing. Beside that, Gaby somehow reminds me the "angry and blind" Eren who were like her back then, determined but very ignorant. To be honest, I think she will change too and face the reality, sooner or later (probably later ^^).

I think this chapter ends the flashback part where we see the past of Reiner's group. Now we return to the present time to know what will happen to Eren and all the Marleyans.

I loved this chapter, but I have to admit that it was mainly because I was so happy to see Eren again. And now that it's confirmed that Eren evolved like I was expecting, he's clearly my favorite character of the whole story. Who is yours? And you can also tell me in the comments what you personally thought about the new chapter. 😉
