Hello, my followers! Welcome to the very first installment in my Random Reviews Book! In this segment, I will be doing something rather special. Specifically, I will be doing a follower request from NickfEast about his story, "The Last Philosopher". Disclaimer: This review will not be a complete one. I will only be covering the first 10 chapters. I don't want to spoil the whole story for you guys. Also, this story is still ongoing and I don't know if I will have time or energy to keep reviewing chapters from it. Anyway, enough of me rambling. Let's get into this review!

                                                            START OF REVIEW:

The story takes place sometime in the past and centers around 4 main characters: Huom, a "dead" blue-green planet, Richard, a black hole who hates Huom, Lyeasrakardsul, an old sorcerer and Herschel Pensador, an inmate of the Zig-Zag prison.

The general plots I should say revolve around the conflict between Huom and Richard over the multiverse and the Milky Way Galaxy, Lyeasrakardsul's dissatisfaction with living in the city of Pentakl due to the imposition of ridiculous rules as well as his growing insomnia from not wanting to experience nightmares of the Darkness and Herschel Pensador planning to escape Zig-Zag prison.




To go into more specifics, let us separate these 3 plots.


First, Huom and Richard, have been arguing with each other over their universe ever since the beginning. At one point in time, Huom, "died" in that he was no longer able to argue against Richard. Yet, he, the planet itself is still alive and continues to support life while Richard is musing over what will happen next in his universe.


Second, Lyeasrakardsul has been living for an incredibly long time in the relatively small town of Pentakl. Yet, he has grown rather frustrated with it due to the increasing amount of absurd rules being introduced that limit his capacity to practice magic as well as his self-imposed insomnia from not wanting to experience nightmares of the Darkness while sleeping. He also does not want to take a potion to fix his insomnia because he disliked the person who sold them, Noertdel, who was rather smug about the whole ordeal. Lyeasrakardsul considers leaving the city of Pentakl but decides not to, knowing the risks of doing so. Instead, he does the best he can to calm his fears of the Darkness by practicing more of his magic and getting some actual sleep. 

Third, Herschel, who has been incarcerated in Zig-Zag prison is constantly scheming to get out of prison but is struggling to do so due to his preferred non-violent strategy. He encounters problems after problems including the weird layout of the Zig-Zag prison, the interesting choice of female lizard Akri guards as well as some other things. Eventually, Herschel escapes from Zig-Zag prison and now faces a new issue. Where should he go next? As the last philosopher, he contemplates several other options such as crossing the desert, visiting the Western nations, and revisiting an old library to obtain some maps. Eventually, he decides to head towards a cliff hoping that he won't be caught by the wardens of the prison who are different from the lizard Akri guards.



And well, that's basically all that happened in the first 10 chapters of the story. All in all, it is a great, intriguing story, albeit a bit confusing at times. Also, the humor in there is pretty great. It definitely made me laugh several times. Despite a couple of confusing elements and a few grammatical errors, it is a really solid story so far! 




Final Rating: I give the "The Last Philosopher" story by NickfEast an 8 out of 10! I am very much looking forward to the following chapters in this story!
