Chapter 12: Liam
"So..." My mom asked awkwardly.
"So. What's going on mom?"
"Oh no, nothing really. I was wondering what happened last night..."
"Come on mom. Nothing happened." I said unconvincingly, keeping my eyes on the cereal. She looked at me through the corners of her eyes and a silly smirk played on her lips.
"I saw him leave here in a rush-sweaty too." She chuckled. I couldn't keep up the lie.
"Well...it wasn't as magical as it is in the movies," and with that we both laughed. I guess her first time was just as average as mine. Full of clumsy mistakes and embarrassing moments.
"Okay mom, the school bus is waiting. Catch you later." I planted a kiss on her cheek. "And thanks for the lunch!"
The bus ride to school was extremely boring. Dana called in sick today and Karla is on the other side of the world, being treated for losing her mind. The only person I have now is Liam. I couldn't see him anywhere on the bus and figured he must have gone to school with his car. I sat staring at the blur of greens and blues and whites as houses and gardens flashed by. I made fog on the glass and drew. Not hearts and flowers like I used to. I drew a question mark. You never know what the future holds Kimberly, I thought to myself.

"Hey Kim," flashed Liam as I grabbed a seat next to him.
"Oh, hey! I didn't know you take group counselling sessions. What a coincidence?" I giggled lightly, taken aback by the fact that the oh-so-confident Liam needed counselling.
"Yeah, my brother died,"
"On my God; I'm so sorry!" I leaned in for a hug and he embraced it.
"Okay everybody, gather around! The session is starting! Please, if you do start to feel offended, leave or go to my office. You'll be surprised how comforting it is," winked the guidance counsellor in my direction. I guess that's her apology for our last session when she asked about Raymond. "Okay, who's going first?" She chirped.
"Um, I'll go ma'am," whispered Sarah timidly.
"Hi Sarah, please! Share your story." There was a brief silence.
"Well, when I was 11, my dad raped me and killed my mom. It was so awful. He'd taunt me, touch me when I was washing, piggy back me just so he could grope my butt and sometimes he'd even make me watch him masturbate to me when I was naked. My mom never knew."
An eerie silence filled the room as everyone silently shared their sympathy.
"Wow, that really is painful. Who looks after you now?"
"I, I stay alone ma'am. Mom is in heaven and dad is in prison. My uncle was next of kin but he beat me and raped me with his gun. Now he's locked up in jail too." Little, dirty tears slid down her check. I had no idea Sarah had it rough. I mean, she was always tough and all but this...this made me question everything about the girl who sat next to me in science.
"Please feel free to talk whenever dear Sarah. Okay everyone, session is over. Next time, Liam's turn. Sarah, could I see you for a sec?" And with that, the bell rang for first period. Biology. Ugh.

The end of final lesson was a blessing. I have SATs to study for and a date with Liam! Okay, back to reality. I'm leaving with Liam to some place tonight, but first, I need to get home and get ready.
"Over here!" Liam called, waving at me next to his car. I walked a couple of paces before I got to the open door. He closed the door behind me.
"Thanks for all this," I blushed. I still can't get over the fact that we hooked up last night.
"Oh yeah, no problem. Anything for you Kimbs,"
We drove for a while in silence, before I heard a song on the radio and turned it up. Rolling down the window, I yelled out the lyrics as the wind swiftly brushed the hair away from my face.
"5 Seconds of Summer, really?" He asked, laughing.
"Hell yes! This is my song!"
"Ok beautiful," he smiled but kept his eyes on the road. When the songs was over, I closed the window and calmed back down.
"You can't hate me for thinking that song is amazing. I want my lipstick stain to be someone's work of art," I winked in his direction. He blushed like crazy, making me smile in return.
"Alright, looks like we're here. Pick you up at 6:30?"
"Fine by me." He walked me to my front door.
"Hi there Mrs Knight,"
"Oh hi Liam. Are you hungry? I was just fixing up some sandwiches," mom smiled, a little too much.
"Oh that's okay, I was just heading back to football practice. Is 6:30 okay for me to pick Kim up?"
"Yeah sure. See you later." With that, he left with a quick kiss. I couldn't help but feel that Liam was hiding something; like he was trying too hard.
"So it's pretty serious," she said, averting her attention from the bread to me.
"Well, not really. Just going with the flow. Nothing special mom, just a date," I stared into the fridge to keep from blushing in front of her. I grabbed a Coke. "I'm upstairs if you need me." I darted up the stairs and opened my cupboard. I flipped through my contacts and landed on Liam's number.
What should I wear? A few moments later, a beep erupted from my iPhone.
Nothing too fancy. Be comfortable. Can't wait to see you!
I guess I'm wearing Supergas and a tank with skinny jeans. But first, I needed to take a nap. Just as my eyes were beginning to shut, my mom burst in through the door.
"Cookies?" She asked, crumbs all over the cracks of her lips.
"Later. I need to nap. Please wake me up at 6,"
"Sure." And with that, she left. I yanked the comforter over my head. Nap time.
