reign of hypnos
I am a lover of the midnight hours,
ravished by darkness and all its splendour
I cannot resist the coquettish crooning,
yielding to Night in sweet surrender
Caressed by cold, Night warms my body
The soothing pull lulls me to rest
My eyes fall shut and I'm floating; flying,
indulging passions long lain repressed
I'm coaxed by darkness, deep and swirling,
my soul illuminated by dying stars
The thrum of my heart beats andante
and my mind is subdued by past memoirs
Imaginary colours sweep my eyelids
My subconscious concocts the perfect dream
Reckless, I plunder the ageless wonder,
eyes drawn shut against daylight's beam
Defiantly, I curse the morning,
forsaking day and all scorching light
I invite the dark; I crave it, embrace it
A mistress of edacious appetite
I soon fall slave to Night once more,
my body fatigued by a lifeless rut
I neglect to realise that I am not sleeping
I am merely laying with my eyes shut
A/N
I'll be honest, I don't know what this. I just wanted to write something deep and metaphorical, I suppose. Plus, who doesn't like sleeping? Interpret it as you will.
