Moving Away
The girl with the yellow dress
Used to wearing rash guards
Misses the only home she ever knew
They just picked up and left
Like they had never lived there
From one coastline to another
While her body moved
Her heart stayed there
California raised, Georgia moved
Once surfing, now apple picking
She traded her surfboard for an apple orchard
She spends each day longing for something far
Wondering if it would ever follow her to Georgia
But her heart was set on home
She begged and pleaded to go back home
But the only answer she got was no
Her heart would've been broken if it was with her
But, no, it's still on the other shore
Though her heart wandered constantly
Her body stayed
She wished so much
Just to go back home
3 years later,
She's learned how to tie down her heart
Maybe a memory
Was all California was meant to be
Though her mind still wanders
It's not the same
This time she's stopped wishing to be there
Now she only sees it in reminiscence
Her life, now, more simple
She still misses California
But acts as if it was just a dream
Her made-up home
Each dream still warms her like a memory
As time keeps going
Her dreams keep fleeing
Farther, and farther
Until, one day,
She doesn't miss it at all
She's made new memories
Still warm, but not the same
Sweet memory, turned bitter dream
Once haven now feels far
She's letting her memories go
In hopes of moving on
