My Day, Your Night
I can't sleep
Don't even get me started on counting sheep
I believe I could be nocturnal
The sun blinds me and it's too hot
You think I'm diurnal?
I think not
I read in my bed
Trying to stick the story in my head
My mother comes in, saying, "Turn off the light!"
Oh, Mother, don't you understand I am one with the night?
I turn off the lights and suddenly I'm alive
This, my friend, is my time to thrive
I walk through the darkened house
Now, I'm quieter than a mouse
I go to the fridge
I have nothing better to do
I grab the milk, cereal, and peanut butter too
I eat on a stool, seeing only with the oven's light
Somehow, this feels quite right
I finish and walk back to bed
But instead of sleeping, I listen to music instead
Soon, the sun shines in my eyes
It's time for me to sleep, and my mother to rise
And with the sun's first light
It's the end of my day, and the beginning of my night
