The tainted walls we wrote our names on ,
The zingy melodies we used to sing along ,
The innocent pranks we played,
Oh ! I remember it all to this day .

The oaths of friendship that we took upon ketchup bottles ,
The creepy haunted stories we used to recite at night in the hostel .
The enticing food served in the canteen after a hectic exam .
The days when changing the world was a part of our plan .

And I remember you wondering how long it's gonna stay my friend ,
And I told you we won't ever say goodbye to the things we don't wanna end .

Time passed by in a blink of an eye , We moved to different cities which loosened our ties ,
And the chatty phone calls receded to casual texts .
Every other get-together got rescheduled to next !

But still there's nobody who knows me better than you do ,
And distance can't ever break a connection so true .
So we laugh at the awkwardness & misunderstandings in between ,
With our longing to be recognised again left unseen !

And now you ask me why do we still pretend ?
And I say maybe because we don't know how to say goodbye to things we don't wanna end.
