Boulder
I see the lights that flicker above,
I see the fish that swim in schools,
I see currents pass by every day,
I see life and all its rules.
I know that I am human,
And I am a mammal in need,
I know that all of us humans,
Well we all need to breathe.
I know this for a fact,
It's constantly on my mind.
I need to breathe, I need to breathe, I need to breathe,
Yet life isn't so kind.
A boulder sits atop my chest,
That in my lungs are crushing.
I'm paralyzed by pain and fear,
My life is quickly rushing.
I need to breathe
I need to breathe
I need to breathe
I need to breathe
That voice it keeps repeating.
I cannot breathe
I cannot breathe
I cannot breathe
I cannot breathe
My mind's quickly depleting.
I gave up struggling long ago,
For long ago I learned,
Even if I had the strength to move the boulder,
All my energy has been burned.
I cannot drag myself to the surface,
I would still drown instead.
I would still be trapped inside this ocean,
Trapped down inside my head.
I still repeat to myself,
Day as day moves on,
I need to breathe, I cannot breathe,
No one even knows I'm gone.
I try to take this pain away,
Through methods quite bizarre,
I'd read a book or draw a face,
But I never would get far.
It's only a distraction,
A temporary ease,
When I come back the pain intensifies,
It wasn't kind enough to leave.
I don't know what I can do,
I never know, it seems.
All I can think about is one thing,
I can't breathe, I can't breathe, I can't breathe.
How can I remove this boulder?
How can I push to the top?
I'm familiar with this pain by now.
And I'm sure it'll never stop.
I am a human,
And I don't need much,
All I want is to breathe,
But that air I will never touch.
