Veda Abernathy

(I had the idea for a Shadowhunter character ages ago when I first read the books and then the movie brought her back into my head, and the TV show just kinda helped shape her a bit more)

Veda is from London Institute and she's the parabatai of the real Sebastian Verlac (even though he's from the Paris Institute in the books). Like most Shadowhunters, she holds a grudge against Downworlders and has the arrogant belief that, because she's Nephilim, she's better than them. Eventually, this idea would change but it wouldn't be a particularly easy road. 

Personality wise, Veda's very serious and straightforward, with a tendency to be judgmental and condescending. Her sense of humor is very dry, sarcastic and biting especially towards people she doesn't like. She calls everyone she's not close to by their last name and flat out demands they do the same to her; only her friends (which is a very short list) and family get to call her Veda. With Sebastian, her family (although I haven't considered them tbh. Maybe they're dead, killed by Downworlders and that's the stem of her hatred for them?), she is very kind, compassionate and caring. Its a side of her strangers rarely get to see, if ever. She'll do anything to protect them, even if that means breaking the rules.

 If she could, Veda would without hesitation give her life for someone she loves.

As a Shadowhunter, she is more practical and level-headed than her bad attitude would lead one to believe. She's committed to accomplishing any task given to her and following Clave law but she's not a blind loyalist. Veda also has the basic skills of any Shadowhunter: Nephilim physiology (enhanced strength, speed, agility, stamina, and coordination), the Sight, the ability to use runic magic and heavenly weapons with the addd benefits of having a Parabatai bond to get extra strength or track Sebastian if she needs to. Her weapons of choice are seraph blades and daggers, but her specialty is a single-headed meteor hammer; the head and chain of her meteor are electrum-laced.
