Estelle "Stella" Holden

(Stella is a plot bunny that had been a fic, once upon a time. I had a vague idea of her until she solidified, then I started writing and fleshing her out, and then my hard drive crashed and I lost everything. Because I've lost everything, I don't remember all the details as vividly.) 

Stella is in Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service and takes her job very seriously. Her father is a doctor and her brother a soldier, although I hadn't decided which branch of the military he'd be in. Her mother, a German immigrant, had been deported when she was a child, not long after WWI ended -- this was a common practice at the time -- so, despite being a natural British citizen herself, her position during WWII is precarious due to the circumstance of her birth. Her brother was basically drafted into service because of his German blood and, even though she was already a nurse, she was only allowed to serve in PMRAFNS with a sterling recommendation from her boss. Stella just wanted to keep her head down, save as many lives as she could, and do her best to ignore the charming Scottish pilot -- Flight Officer Collins -- whose set his sights on her. Of course, through a series of charming encounters and a penchant for crafting paper planes with love notes written inside, the two fall in love. When Stella is one of many nurses sent to Dunkirk, however, their love is challenged.
