~Toy Soldier

Tristen POV

Mr. Adas thinks of me as a total and complete idiot.

He thinks he’s smart and I’m not doubting his intelligents one bit, but his way too big, sized ego is getting to his head. He doubts peoples intelligents, especially mines. I honestly don’t know what world he lives in but there is something up with him for thinking the way he does because just the other day he told me to never come anywhere near his house.

He thinks that there is something going on between Payton and I but he got it wrong. If anything, his daughter and I are both acting like innocent children and I would never do anything to deflower her. Nope, not at all. That was her mates’ job not mine.

I’m not saying that I had my fair share of girls but there’s something about Payton that makes me think twice. There’s something different….no special about her. Just knowing that I’m yet to figure out what that special thing is, I keep to myself.

Mr. Adas said something about Payton being in love with me but I don’t think he’s right. I know Payton has some type of feelings beyond friends for me but it’s probably a small crush that will be long forgotten in a couple of days or even weeks.

Something was itching at the back of my head telling me that I was way off but I really wasn’t in the mood at the moment. I’m going over to my parents house and I don’t want to be in such a horrible mood when I see them.

Just then my phone starting blinking meaning that I got a text message. I took it off the dash board to see that it was Payton. I didn’t bother looking at the text knowing that she would ask me what I was up to and if I could come and see her.

Clearly her dad haven’t told her what he told me. Last week at the bomb fire once one of Payton friends took her way from me, I caught a glimpse of Mr. Adas talking to the Alpha. I swear this man is out to get me, ruin me and spit me back out.

He told the Alpha that he wanted me nowhere near his daughter and he wanted me to cut off all contact with her all while I stood their starring at him through the eyes of a wolf but still in a mans body.

“Alpha, I find this completely unnecessary,” I spoke through my teeth all while still glaring at the man that was trying to ruin me in all ways possible. Mr. Adas starred back at me with a mixture of both a glare and a smirk on his face. Knowing that at the end he would win.

“ Clearly as you can see Alpha, this pup can’t control himself. I don’t want anyone that can be a danger to my family anywhere near this pack. I’m only thinking of the safety of others,” he told the Alpha with his thick strong voice quiet as to not disturb anyone that could be passing by.

I just thought he was trying to get me away from Payton but he was trying to get me away from this pack all together. It’s been three months that I’ve been trying to get on the Alphas good side so that I could become part of this pack, but a bad comment about me from his second in command can ruin me. Both Mr. Adas and I knew that. He’s making extreme measures for no reason what so ever.

He told the Alpha about the night before and how I met Payton by their house at night. He told him how I was physically interacting in behaviors that he didn’t like but all that I heard coming out of his mouth was complete and total bullshit going eighty mile per hour. All I did was talk to her and held her until she fell asleep. It was such an innocent act but he made it seem like I took advantage of her.

But it was a battle that I was years away from winning. Within five minutes, I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere near Payton, so I had to leave the pack house right away. That’s the last time I saw her and spoken to her but trust me I’m trying but so far I thought of nothing to get around the Alphas order.

I stopped my car in front of the house that I grew up in before getting out and making my way up the porch steps. Before I even step foot on the porch the front door swung open was my mother ran up to me, hugging me tight and kissing me all over.

“ It’s nice to see you too mom,” I told her kissing the side of her face and hugging her tight. Pulling away I starred down at her short form as she starred back up at me with her hazel eyes and her thick brown curly hair that I inherited from her. She looked sad for a second but the look was gone from her eyes as soon as it came.

She tugged me into the house, “My boy is so busy that he can’t even come and visit his mom.” She said slapping my shoulder, “ It’s been three weeks since I saw you with out that dirty uniform on.”

I nodded and followed her into the kitchen where I could smell roasted chicken already being made. Lora was over at the sink draining the spaghetti in the drainer. When she turned around and got sight of me she completely dropped what she was doing and ran over and jumped into my arms.

“ Seems like I’ve been missed around here for quiet a while around here. Maybe I should stay here for a couple of days, after all my apartment is kind of lonely,” I said making Lora squeal in happiness.

“ You should and Marco should too, then it’ll be like old time!” She said jumping up and down.

“ No I hate old times. Tristen and Marco we’re such butts then!” Erin said coming into the room with her hazels eyes shining with happiness. “ Hey bro,” she said coming up to me and kissing me cheek. “ So where have you been for the past week and a half?” she asked jumping up and sitting on the counter.

“ You better get your butt off of my counter. You know better then that Erin,” mom scrolled her. Erin just rolled her eyes and hopped down off of the counter and settled on leaning against it instead.

“ I’ve been working and going to school. I haven’t had time to do anything lately,” I told her ruffling her hair only to have her slap my hand away.

“ No kidding, you haven’t even had time to text or call Payton back. She really misses you,” Erin said softly looking away. “ You wouldn’t believe how much trouble she got into when she told her farther that she was going to come and see you today. The look on his face and the sound of his voice just makes you want to hide in a corner.”

I was confused but both happy that she at least made an effort to see me. “ How is she suppose to see me if she doesn’t know where my apartment is?”

Erin turned back around with a piece of chicken in her hand, shredding little bits and piece as popping it in her mouth while answering me. “ Ashton has the same Bio class as her. Your name came up and he gave her your address.” Erin looked at me with her eye brows raised. “ Is there a problem with Payton knowing where you live?” She asked.

Erin, just like Lora didn’t know about the little meeting I had with the Alpha and Beta. They didn’t know that I wasn’t allowed to see or go anywhere near Payton from now on. “ No,” I said blankly before taking a seat at the small table in the kitchen. After all, if she shows up at my house, they can’t really blame me, can they?

“ What happen when her dad found out?” Lora asked now continuing the conversation at Erin and I had.

“ He told her no, but when she said she was going to go anyways he yelled at her and now she’s grounded. That’s why I’m home so early. I never saw the day when I would see Payton cry.”

“ She cried?” I asked. I know I didn’t want to talk about Payton any longer because every time I thought about her I thought about her overprotective dad but this was something I had to clarify.

“ Yeah, she really cares about you Tristen,” Erin said before leaving the kitchen through the back door. Hearing that Payton cried was such a foreign thing to hear and comprehend. She’s such a strong girl and I would never imagine her crying for anything but there you have it. She broke down….because she couldn’t see me.

Something begun stirring inside me. “ So why don’t Mr. Adas like you anymore?” Lora asked as she washed her hands in the sink. I didn’t answer her though, I just sat there thinking. Maybe if I never listened to what the Alpha told me about staying away from her then maybe she would’ve never cried.

Call me a softy all you want but I hate seeing a girl cry. It’s not right and if I do witness a girl crying then I will be there to comfort them, even if I don’t even know them. My dad told me that when I was seven and ever since then I always knew and believed he was right about that.

“ You use to go over there almost everyday before last week. Why don’t Mr. Adas like you anymore?” Lora asked leaning against the counter.

“ He thinks that we got a thing going on so I’m not allowed over there anymore meaning that I’m not allowed to talk or see Payton until the Alpha says I can.” Lora nodded before walking over to the table and taking a seat closet to me.

“ Must be tough, huh? Do you miss her?”

“ It would be a lie if I said no,” I told her running my hand through my thick brown hair. I found myself doing that a lot often now. Not because of school or work, but because of the situation I was in with Mr. Adas.

Payton is just a girl, but she’s a special girl. She did something to me and now that I have plenty of time to think about what this feeling is, I had no luck of figuring it out. When I’m stressed, I get mad and when I’m mad I like taking my anger out on everything and anything.

“ So what are you going to do?” Lora asked.

I shrugged my shoulders, “ I didn’t figure that part out yet.”

“ Tristen!” My name was called. “ Long time no see little bro.”

“ Marco, it’s been a week,” I laughed as he came stunting into the house gazing at the food being cooked.

“Uncle Tris,” called my two year old nephew as he came in through the side door with his mom closely behind him. I didn’t waste anytime picking up the little two year old in my arms and kissing his cheek as he giggled.

“ Hey there little man,” I said taking a seat and putting him on my lap. He giggled and started playing with my hair. I wasn’t really expecting an answer, after all he is two. He doesn’t say much. The only thing he really knows how to say are names, mommy, daddy and pee but his favorite word of all is no.

I watch the toddler play on my lap as everyone started to pour into the house. Every once in a while Omar would pull to hard on my hair making me flinch but he was just to cute to say no to. Oh, how I wanted kids. As soon as I find that right girl she’s going to be popping out lots and lots of kids. I love kids and someday I want a huge family.

“Hey Omar, no love for Auntie Lora?” Lora asked extending her arms out to Omar.

Omar looked at her funny before yelling, “No!” and running out of the room while everyone else laughed.

It wasn’t long before dinner started and everyone crowded around the table seated for eight people. I was so preoccupied with having fun and laughing with my family that I quickly forgot about Payton and Mr. Adas all together.

While everyone was outback either sitting around or playing with Omar my dad pulled me aside. He led me to the other side of the yard and motioned for me to sit on the bench.

“ So how’s life treating you son?” he asked with some sort of glint in his eye. I didn’t know if he was resorting to ‘the situation’ or just in general but just thinking about how my life twisted in just a short week made me stressed. I got both the Alpha and Beta on my back, I’m trying to make a good impression on them and I think…I might like Payton a little. Ugh! I can’t have a break, can it?

“ So I’m guessing you still haven’t worked anything out with the Beta about Payton?” he said taking my silence as a no. I shrugged my shoulders.

“ The Beta hates me. There’s not much that I can do,” I told him turning away from him to stare at my nephew rolling around in the grass with Erin chasing after him. “I’m not in the best mood right now to talk about it any farther dad.” I should feel my eyes shifting to a darker shade and a growl rumbling through my chest. All of my problems are because of this one very special girl.

“ Stop being someone else’s puppet Tristen,” my dad said. I looked at him confused but he just rolled his eyes. “ The Alpha may tell you to do this or to do not but you got free will. Do what ever you want and if you want to see Payton, go ahead and see her. Stop playing by someone else’s rules, stop being a toy solider in a childs army. I see the way you look at her. You like her Tristen, am I not right?” he asked seriously.

I couldn’t keep the smirk off of my face. “ She’s ok.”

“ And you like her,” he said again but this time had a small smile on his face. I couldn’t say it out loud yet so I just nodded and smiled. “ I’ll take that as a yet. Now I didn’t raise no fool nor did I raise a boy that listened to everything that he was told to do,” he said with a raised eyebrow. I couldn’t help but to look back to the time when he told me not to drive his car but I did anyways, making it smash into the side of the garage.

“Don’t let no Alpha or Beta get in the way of what you want. I don’t care if he’s her daddy or not. What I want is to see my son happy,” he said with his blue eyes starring back at me and an encouraging smile on his face.

At that moment I forgot all about the chances of me being kicked out of this pack ( not that I was already in it). All that really matter was…..I really don’t know but he’s right. I’m not going to be a toy solider, I’m making my own decisions and my decision is that I want to see Payton and hold her.

“ Your right dad, I‘m going to go see her,” I said looking down at the ground as I debated on how I’m suppose to see her with out the Beta or Alpha seeing me until it’s too late. You know what, forget that, I’ll just do it right in front of their faces. The worst that they can do is hit and I doubt Mr. Adas would do that in front of his daughter.

There was a vibrating noise before my dad pulled his phone out of his pocket. He looked at the scene and said, “ speaking of the devil.” He picked up the phone before slightly turning away from me. “ Hello Beta,” he said in a professional tone.

I could feel my blood already bubbling from just that name alone. All I could hear was mumbling on the other side of the phone but I couldn’t make out any words. My dad looked back at me with a serious expression before saying, “ yes, he’s with me.”

I looked at him confused. Why would he care where I was, as long as I was nowhere bear Payton then he should be happy.

After a minute my dad hung up his phone before turning to me slowly. “ Where’s your phone?” he asked me. I patted the side of my jeans and then the back, “ I guess I left it in my car, why?”

He looked around before slowly braking it down to me in the simplest way possible. “ Payton dad has been trying to call you for the past half hour. So-something happen to Payton.”

My heart dropped and I was up in a heartbeat and ready to go. “ What happened to her? Is she home?”

“ She’s fine now Tristen, but the Beta wants you over that their house now.”

That’s all I needed to know. I quickly made my way to my car and speed off towards the place I was banned from for a whole week. I swear, if she’s hurt someone is going to pay.
