Pepper Spray
So I made a new cover for My Personal Assistant and I freakin love it. The first one was just getting really old and boring to me. If you guys liked the original cover I'm really sorry, and it's not like I can get the old one back anyway. I deleted it, whoops. :/
_____________
Laila's POV
So when I woke up this morning the first thing I did, before even brushing my teeth, was pester Addison into telling me how her date went. I mean I know what happened in the middle, but after me and Seth left.
Flashback
"Addison get your lazy ass up and tell me why you came home so late!!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs jumping onto her bed. She rolled around and groaned.
"Can't you wait until you get home from work?" She mumbled into the pillow.
"No." I said laying down next to her and waiting for her to begin. I hear her sigh, then turn over to face me.
"Well after you and Seth rudely interrupted, we laughed about how Mason got hit in the forehead with a piece of bread. And might I say you have fantastic aim." she laughed. "Then we talked about work and whatnot. That's it." she finished. I looked over and raised my eyebrow not believing her.
"You got home at 1 am, what else happened?" I sat up and crossed my arms. If they did anything freaky I need to know so I can pester and make fun of them about it.
"Fine, we started making out in his backseat in front of the house but then he stopped and said he didn't want our first time to be in his car. So he kissed me and walked me up to the front door and left. I think I'm in love with him." Addison said biting her lip. I stared wide eye at her then jumped into her arms squealing.
"That's so romantic. So when are you guys going to get your freak on, do some dippity doo das, the hokie pokie, the naked twister, butter the muffin, bury the bone, do some sexercises, ride the boloney pony, do some Mason tastin, bake some cooki-"
"Please stop." Addison then got up and walked into the bathroom.
"What? You know you want to hop on that train and ride it all the way down to pleasure town."
End flashback
So now we're both sitting eating French toast. I agreed to not bug Mason about their sex life only if I was aloud to bug Addison about it whenever I wanted. Sounded like a good deal to me. I wasn't going to make fun of him or anything just pick and poke about when they were going to do the hanky panky. I wasn't expecting an answer anyway, not that I wanted one. As much as I would love to make fun of their sex life I could care less, I just like to make them uncomfortable.
Addison's phone then buzzed. She looked down and then gave me a nod, which means that Seth is outside. I wasn't able to get my phone back but I'll get it sometime tonight. Addison's like a piano, you just have to know which keys to press.
I got up from the table and slipped on my heels. As I made my way to the door I grabbed my purse and closed the door behind me.
"Did you get in trouble with Ciara?" I asked as soon as I opened the car door.
"Well, define in trouble." Seth smirked. I rolled my eyes and closed the door. "So how did Mason and Addison's date go?"
"Eh, nothing special. They almost got it on in the back of his car." I said looking out of the window just as we pass the mall.
Oh shit I totally forgot about my date with Seth tomorrow. Don't panic, I can go shopping with Addison when I get home. I need a dress, I mean should I wear a dress or maybe I should just play it casual. But what if I wear something casual and he wears something fancy or he wears something casual and I wear something fancy, that would be so awkward. Should I wear heels, what if I accidentally break a heel? Or my dress rips when I sit down. Oh my god, what if I get my period on the date!?!??
"Almost? Let me guess Mason pulled the sappy 'not in the backseat' bullshit." Seth guessed. I nodded and we both laughed. From the couple weeks I've known Mason I came to find out that he's a hopeless romantic. Which is really sweet. I wonder if Seth's a hopeless romantic, I hope not. I'm not good at handling romantic gestures. Like for example a year ago I went on a date with this guy and he gave me roses. Normally if a girl got roses from a guy she would blush then smell the flowers and giggle, which I never understood. Why would you smell the roses? Any normal person would already know what roses smell like. All I did was give him a fake smile and then we went on our date, that ended in a complete disaster. He took me to the movies. What guy would take a girl to the movies on a first date? A stupid one that's who. I'm not saying a guy shouldn't take a girl to the movies for a date, just not a first date. We sat in a theater watching a stupid romance movie for an hour and a half without saying a single word to each other. Then when I went to the bathroom after the movie I came out to find him flirting with another girl. A guy could take me anywhere he wants on a first date, the beach, park, a museum, bowling alley, a restaurant, laser tag, paint balling, the zoo, hell I wouldn't mind just doing nothing and calling it a date. As long as we can talk and get to know each other.
After a couple minutes we finally pulled up to the building. Mason was standing at the door as usual but right now he looks like was just in an episode of Dr. Phil and he just found out he wasn't the father.
"Well someone looks happy." I teased Mason as we walked up to him. I said I wouldn't tease him about his sex life, Addison said nothing about him being in love with her. "Aw is Mason in looooove?"
"Ya damn right I am." he said confidently. Seth patted his shoulder with a grin then followed me into the building. I'm glad Addison and Mason are happy together, they deserve to be considering the shity boyfriends she's had in the past.
The building was busy, everyone was running around trying to get everything done. I saw Lea standing with Logan probably talking about a meeting. It seems that's all that goes on around here, lots of paperwork and meetings. What kind of business is this anyway? I've worked here for a good couple weeks and I don't even know what these people do.
"Hey I just found out that Mr. Clark will be interviewing all the assistants in about 15 minutes in his office. It's on the top floor. Be careful, he's a bit handsy. If he does anything to you aim for his crotch." Seth said with a worried smile and kissed my head, he then turned and made his way towards Charlie. I quickly walked into Seth's office, I made his coffee and scribbled down on a sticky note the things he had to do today. Afterwards I followed Lea into the elevator to the top floor.
"Remember how I told you that you would have to get use to Seth harassing you?" Lea asked nervously. I gave her a nod. "Well Mr. Clark is a whole different story."
"Logan can't possibly be okay with this." I said with wide eyes. Is this guy really as bad as everyone says he is?
"He's not, that's why he gave me this." Lea said holding up a bottle of pepper spray. Logan's a smart man. When we got up to the top floor the whole place was packed with assistants I didn't even know worked here. One by one names were called to go into Mr. Clark's office. The top floor was a bit more well put together then the 23rd. The furniture looked more expensive and pretty much everything else looked like it cost more than Addison's house.
The assistants were a mixture of men and women, there were probably more than 30 of us. Every girl that walked out of his office looked like they just finished watching a documentary about McDonalds. And every man that walked out looked like they just found out they were going to be castrated.
"Lea Howard." They called. I gave her a reassuring smile and watched her walk into the office. I nervously watched the clock, counting how long Lea was going to be in there.
20 minutes have passed and Lea still hasn't came out. I swear if he does anything to her she better use that pepper spray on him good. After 10 more minutes Lea finally walked out with a smirk on her face.
"What happened?" I asked standing up in relief.
"I'll tell you later. Here you might need this." She tossed me the pepper spray and walked off to the elevator.
"Laila Ross." I slowly turned towards the office and walked to the door. Turning the nob I find that the whole office is dark. Great it's like my first day all over again when Seth thought I was his 12 o'clock screw session. A dim light turned on behind me, when I turn around I find Mr. Clark sitting behind his desk with a grin plastered on his face. He also looked slightly pissed off, probably because of Lea. I cautiously take a couple steps closer, as I walk closer to the light you can kind of make out a huge red spot on his cheek like someone slapped him. I wonder which girl did that, I'm going to put my money on Lea.
"Ms. Ross, please sit." Mr. Clark gestures towards the seat in front of his desk. I timidly sat down, trying not to make eye contact with him. "I'm just going to ask you a series of questions and please answer them truthfully."
I nodded and waited for him to start. Mr. Clark started flipping through a pile of papers. I then took the time to look around the office. It was white with a couple filing cabinets scattered around the room. Are all the offices in this building so plain and boring? Speaking of which after I'm done talking with Mr. Clark I'm going to fix up Seth's office.
"So, Laila how do you like the job so far?" He asked raising is eye brow. He started smirking and his eyes just watched me like I was a small bunny and he was a wolf. I think I'd prefer to drink chlorine then to sit here in from of this man. He's the kind of guy that makes women think all men are animals.
"It's nice, I've had no problems." I answered honestly. Mr Clark nodded at my answer in approval and continued.
"I've noticed that you and Mr. Donovan have gotten pretty close over the past couple weeks." He stated.
"Ya, he's very sweet. Seth's an amazing boss." Right when I said that Mr. Clark started grinning. He then got up and walked over to me.
"Stand up for me Laila." I cautiously stood up and faced him. "Here's a word of advice. Seth has a reputation of being with a lot of women. If he has his eyes on a certain girl he'll do whatever it'll take to get her. You might think he's changed but trust me when I say you're just playing into his little games. He wants you Laila, hell I'm pretty sure every man wants you in this building, including me. But that's all you are, just a pretty face. That's the only reason you got this job, if you weren't hot I wouldn't have hired you. You're aren't smart enough to work in a business like this, you're just a kid. Girls like you are just too naïve to realize it. I'm paying you 45 dollars an hour just to get Seth coffee every morning and to remind him what time his meetings are. Does that make any sense to you?" By now tears have started streaming down my face.
"I bet you didn't know that this isn't my business. It's Seth's father's, but when his father died he passed it down to Seth. Last year Seth started to have trouble handling the company so I stepped in to help him, ever since then he's been trying to get it back. And he will, just not anytime soon. Not when he's busy chasing you around like a thirsty puppy. The reason I'm wasting so much money on you is because you keep him distracted while I run his business. So as long as you keep doing that I'll keep you around." The more he talked the more I cried. Why is he telling me all of this? "Oh sweetie, don't cry. I'm doing this for you. Keep doing whatever you're doing and I'll let you keep your job. Like I said you're just a pretty face, nothing more." After he said that I knew he was finished.
I slowly walked out of his office, the next couple moments went by in a blur. Somehow I ended up in front of my office and I walked in. I sat down in my chair, looking around the room blankly. Finally after a couple minutes I let out everything I was feeling. Disappointment, betrayal, anger, sadness, and stupidity. I'm not sure how long I cried for but by the time I was done I had a splitting headache. I know I shouldn't believe what Mr. Clark was saying, he was talking as though he was looking out for me but I know he wasn't. He's looking out for himself, but some of the things he said did get to me. Should I tell Seth about what Mr. Clark's doing? What if Seth really is just using me to get what he wants? No Seth wouldn't do that, I've seen how he's changed but I can't lose my job. So I won't tell him about what Mr. Clark's doing, not now anyway.
A knock at the door brings me out of my thoughts. The door opens to reveal Lea and I sigh in relief.
"Hey, what happened with Mr. Clark?" She asked sitting in a chair.
"Oh nothing I couldn't handle." I said biting my lip. "What about you? He looked pretty pissed after you left."
"He tried to grab my ass but I held up the pepper spray. He backed off a little bit but he still got a bit handsy so I slapped him in the face." Lea smiled triumphantly.
"I had a feeling you did that." I grinned.
"So how are things with you and Seth? I've noticed he's been acting a little different since you got here." Lea commented.
"We're good and what do you mean by different?"
"He's been a lot nicer to everyone and he's super friendly. Which was kind of weird at first." Lea said grinning. "He doesn't flirt with all the girls in the building and he's actually taking time to get to know the other employees. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it."
I gave her a small smile. What am I doing? How in the world am I, how Mr. Clark puts it, 'distracting' him? Maybe I'm spending too much time with Seth, me and him are on a way too friendly level. I spend almost everyday with him and everyday that passes by I fall in love with him even more. By the time his wedding comes around I probably won't even be able to go. It would hurt too much. This really needs to stop, but we have a date tomorrow and in 2 days we're leaving for his private island. Ok after we get back from the island I'm going to have to take it down a notch with Seth.
"I need to get back to Logan, I'll talk to you later Laila." Lea said getting up and walking out of the office. When she walked out Seth came in right after.
"I didn't know you got back already. Are you alright, did he try to do anything?" Seth asked quickly. I couldn't do anything but stare at him. Would Seth really put that much effort to try and get a girl? A guy doesn't go from a complete jerk to a total gentleman just to get into a girls pants, right? No, Seth wouldn't be able to commit to something like that for this long. He's not very good at setting goals for himself and going through with them.
"No, he just asked me questions." I said snapping out of my thoughts.
"Are you sure?" Seth looked really worried. Does he really care about me that much or is this all an act? Laila stop it, Seth isn't like that.
"Ya I'm positive and if he did try anything I would have used this on him." I said holding up the pepper spray. Seth grinned and took it from my hand.
"Lea gave you this didn't she?" I nodded and he shook his head. "Logan is way too protective of her."
"I think it's cute." I smiled to myself.
"Anyway I have to get going, I have a bunch of paperwork to finish up. I'll call you if I need anything and you call me if you need anything." He said turning around and walking back to his office.
The rest of the day went by fast. I got Seth more coffee, told his about a small meeting he had, and doodled the rest of the day like the pretty face that I am. Ugh, I can't let Mr. Clark get to me. I decided after me and Seth get back from his island I'll tell him about Mr. Clark's plan. Hopefully he won't be mad that I kept this from him so long. I remembered that I was suppose to fix up Seth's office but to be honest I may or may not have been trying to avoid him.
I looked up at the clock and saw that there was 2 minutes left until we get to leave. Addison's probably on her way home now, I texted her earlier from Charlie's phone saying that she has to go to the mall with me today to help me find something to wear for my date. The date that's probably a very bad idea.
"Hey Addison just texted me, she wants you home ASAP." Seth said poking his head in. I got up and followed Seth to the elevator. "Are you ok? You've been avoiding me all day."
Well damn, he noticed.
"I'm fine, promise." I gave Seth a fake smile and knew he could see right through it.
"What did Mr. Clark really say to you?" He crossed his arms and stared at me, his eye blazing with anger. I feel like I'm being scrutinized by a teacher.
"Nothing. He just said that the only reason you're being so nice to everyone is because you're trying to- never mind." I sighed in frustration.
"What did he say?" Seth ordered. He looked like he was about ready to punch something. "He said the only reason I'm being nice is because I'm trying to what?"
"Get in bed with me." I muttered, embarrassed. "He said I'm just a pretty face." Seth clenched his jaw but then sighed and walked up to me, tipping my chin up to look at him.
"Laila listen to me. I don't want another pretty face, I don't want just anyone to hold. I want you and your beautiful soul." Seth smiled down at me, rubbing his thumb across my cheek.
"Why are you quoting Jessie McCartney?" I asked with a grin.
"I don't know, thought it would prove my point." Seth shrugged.
"What point?" I asked tilting my head to the side.
"That you aren't pretty. You're funny, smart, amazing, caring, feisty, and beautiful." Seth said taking my hand in his. Well damn, he can't just say stuff like that and not expect me to swoon over him.
Just then I knew for sure that Seth wasn't just being nice to get in my pants, he's being genuinely sweet and who said he wanted to get in my pants in the first place? I'm not getting into pants worthy and no man will be getting into my pants anyway. I'm saving myself for someone special, as cheesy as that sounds. I'm an old school kind of girl. "So what are you ladies doing today?" Seth asked turning the car on.
"The mall, we have some shopping to do." I said trying to not give anything away. I don't want Seth to know I'm freaking out about our date.
"I thought you hated shopping." He said turning to me with a smirk. He's starting to catch on about why we really are going to the mall.
"I do, but Addison wanted some new clothes for her and Mason's future dates." That's a good excuse.
"Oh ok" He totally bought it. The rest of the car ride went by in silence. When we pulled up to the house Addison was just getting out of her car. She ran up to Seth's car and opened the passenger door.
"Laila come on, the mall's having a sale. It ends in 2 hours." Addison said grabbing my arm and trying to pull me out.
"Thanks for the ride." I smiled to Seth.
"Hey, when you go to the mall don't buy anything too fancy for our date. Keep it casual." Sett winked. Addison closed the car door and dragged me to her car. Dammit I didn't want him to think I was putting too much effort into what I was going wear tomorrow.
I got in Addison's car and closed the door. She turned on the radio and started driving to the mall.
"Did he even tell you where he's taking you?" She asked glancing at me.
"No, but he did say not to wear anything too fancy." I watched as Addison scrunched up her face while thinking.
"Ok I can work with that. Nothing too fancy, got it." She said with a nod. We finally pulled into the mall parking lot and got out.
The mall wasn't too crowded, thank god. I hate crowds. I really didn't want to spend too much time here but knowing Addison it will take a good couple hours.
"So what do you want to get first? The dress, shoes, or jewelry? You know what we'll start with the dress." She took my hand and started dragging me around the mall.
~~~~~~
It's been almost 2 hours and we haven't found anything. So far we've gotten cinnamon buns, Subways, candy, ice cream, smoothies, frozen yogurt, we made a Build-a-Bear, and checked out the guys at Hollister even though it's like impossible to even see in there. The damn store is so dark, but I do like how me and Addison are spending time together. We haven't had any girl time in weeks.
"Oh my god, why haven't I thought of this before? I know a guy who knows a guy that can find the prefect dress for you." Addison said grabbing my hand and dragging me out of Hollister.
"What's this guys name?" I asked throwing my smoothie into the garbage.
"Wayne, he's a friend of a guy I went to high school with. He has impeccable taste in clothes." We finally stopped in front of a small store that didn't have a name. When we walked in all we could hear was silence. This is so creepy. The grey paint in the walls were pealing and almost everywhere you looked you would see dust covering everything. The clothes here didn't look that special either and it doesn't even seem like the store had any dresses. "Wayne, it's me Addison. I'm a friend of Chris, we went to high school together."
"Ya hang on I'll be right there." A nasaly voice said from the back of the store. After a couple minutes a short kid came out wearing glasses. He had on a plaid shirt, a bright yellow tie, and a pair of jeans that were a little too small. "Oh Addison, I remember you."
"This is Wayne?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Hey buttercup, just because I look like I'm 12 doesn't mean I am. I'm 21, so deal with it." He said turning around and walking to the back of the store. "Follow me."
Me and Addison followed him into a dark room, he turned on the lights. The room was huge. The walls were painted a soft pink, I looked up and saw a big chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Mirrors were scattered across the walls and there were about 3 white couches placed around the room. In the back of the room was a small platform and a couple dressing rooms next to it.
"The clothes are in here." Wayne said walking over to the other side of the room. He grabbed the 2 handles of the black double doors and flung it open. Row after row were different colors of shirts, pants, skirts, shoes, jewelry, and dresses. Me and Addison looked around in complete shock. "Alright let me get a good look at you."
Wayne walked around me looking me over like I was a block of ice he was getting ready to carve into. He lifted up my arm and it let go, making it fall back to my side. "She's a good one."
He walked into the giant closet and started looking through the clothes. "What's the occasion?" Wayne yelled from the closet.
"Laila has a date tomorrow night. She's not sure where she's going but she was told not to wear anything too fancy." Addison informed him.
"Alright well since you don't know where you're going we'll play it safe." He said walking out with an entire outfit in his hands. In the pile was a peach lace dress, a denim jacket, gold combat boots, a cute nude purse, and some jewelry to match.
(^^Outfit at top^^)
"Oh my god, this is perfect. I'm sorry I ever doubted you." I said giving Wayne a giant hug.
"It's alright everyone does it. Now will you please put me down." He commanded. I placed him back onto the ground and smiled down at the outfit.
"How much is it?" I asked taking out my wallet.
"Well normally it would be $50 for the whole outfit but I'll give it to you for $50." Wayne grinned.
"Gee thanks." I said handing him my card. After he rang up the clothes he packed it nicely away for me in a fancy looking box.
"If you need any help finding something to wear whether it's here or your house you just give me a call." He smiled giving me his card. I took it and placed it into my purse.
"I will. Thank you." We waved goodbye and walked out of the store. "Why does the front of the store look so, terrible?"
"I don't know, Chris said that Wayne's really weird. Something about not judging something on the outside and inside, even if something is ugly on the inside you just need to dig a little deeper to find the beauty in it. Some weird poetic shit like that." Addison shrugged. Well I can't say Wayne's wrong, he has a point. Even if someone seems bitter on the inside you just need to keep digging to find the treasure. Well I guess that's what I did. I'm not going to lie, I judged Wayne when I first saw him and yes I feel bad now. He's a pretty cool guy.
"Now as soon as we get home I'm going to teach you everything I know about proper date etiquette." Addison said with a grin. Uh oh. What etiquette does she even know, she probably doesn't even know what the word means.
"Ya we'll see about that." I rolled my eyes. For most of the ride we sat in comfortable silence.
"Laila, I don't think this date's a good idea." Addison finally said after a couple minutes.
"Why not?" I raised my eyebrow, crossing my arms over my chest. I know exactly why.
"Laila, he's getting married in a couple weeks. I just think after you go on this date with him and to his private island it will make it even harder for you to watch him get married to Ciara. I just don't want you to get hurt." She explained, giving me worried glances. The problem was she's right. After me and Seth go on this date and to his private island it definitely won't be easy to watch him get married to someone else. But he's like a drug. No matter how bad he is for me I can't stay away from him, and in the end he'll completely destroy. I'll be an absolute mess after the wedding. Like watching sappy romance movies, eating a crap load of junk food, and pretending to get drunk off of apple cider kind of mess. But I already decided to back off of him after the trip we're taking in 3 days. So hopefully everything will work out in the end.
