30
"That would be $3," The sales guy behind the counter said, bagging the bunch of banana and 4 oranges.
Jungkook tapped his pockets for his wallet and paid the money.
"Thank you," The cashier guy, Jiho, as his name tag read, said handing over the bag of fruits to Jungkook.
"Sure," Jungkook replied, picking the bag and exiting the store. The last time he was at the place, he had been with Jin. That had been a while ago, over a month.
He stepped out of the building of the supermarket and proceeded down the road towards the University, a small smile playing on his lips. He was going to surprise Jin. He could imagine the look of shock that would form on Jin's face when he saw him that morning.
Shifting the bag to his left hand, Jungkook clutched his phone on his right. He had contemplated calling Jin to inform him of his visit that morning and his intention to spend the day with him, but the better and more interesting idea of surprising him usurped the phone call and there he was, making his way to the slightly familiar hostel that would hopefully become his when he gets accepted into that university and moved in with Jin as his roommate.
The day was still newly born. It was barely past nine that Saturday morning. The instant Jungkook's mother had left for work, he had jumped into the shower and had later snuck into Namjoon's room to drown himself with his cologne. So, in that moment, Jungkook smelt musky, minty and expensive. Hopefully, the smell would fade off from the room before Namjoon got back from wherever he went, but Jungkook wasn't so bothered about that. Namjoon, too, had wore his cologne in that same room. He just hoped to get back home before Namjoon got home to smell the familiar scent on him. Things would be ugly.
Since the incident when Jungkook had snapped at Namjoon and had called him a bad brother, Namjoon had drastically turned different. He barely stayed at home and when he was home, he never stayed in the same room as Jungkook. When he wanted to watch a movie in the living room, he would send Jungkook away rudely and flop of the couch. And he snitched on Jungkook to their mother like never before. The last time, he told their mother that Jungkook had gone out and only got back by 7:30 when the boy's curfew was 7. Their mother, who was still very much mad at Jungkook about his sexuality, had yelled at him for 2 hours straight, went bed, woke up the next day and continued yelling. During this time, Jungkook contemplated poisoning Namjoon.
It would be better to get rid of him once and for all. But everytime he held the big white can of bleach over Namjoon's food, he saw hell fire with Satan holding a red pitch fork smiling at him. He didn't want to go to hell. So, he dropped the bleach and would glare daggers at Namjoon. Some times, he would wish laser would shoot from his eyes and pierce Namjoon skull, then he could say it was beyond his control and unintentional.
But that was by the ways, Namjoon was just another challenge in his teenage years, there to make his life a living hell, but he was sure to have a bright future. Jin had said it, and that was what made him hopeful. Asides Jin, he had Yoongi.
He and Yoongi had developed a close bond since he found out Jimin had been the one to make the Facebook post. Mr Stan Lee had confirmed it. He had hacked into Jimin's computer and recovered the fake account he had created to make the post. Principal Li had called Jimin into school and had served him his punishment in the presence of all the students in the school's auditorium.
"For what you have done, Park Jimin, you are, hereby, suspended for the rest of the school year. And when you return, you will start your final year all over again. You will stay behind everyday after school hours and, together with the school cleaner, ensure that the halls and classrooms are clean. In addition to that, you will tender a 2,000 words letter of apology to Jeon Jungkook for the trauma you have put him through. Because if you haven't realized it yet, what you did was pure malevolent."
As the auditorium emptied, Jimin had fallen to his knees and cried his heart out.
Jungkook had cried too. But not because he pitied Jimin, because in that moment he despised Jimin like a plague. But he had cried because he had been betrayed by someone he had shared his heart, love and feelings with at one point in his life. He had been hurt. He had been used. He felt stupid. So, he had cried his heart out until he developed a head ache.
It was Yoongi who comforted him. Yoongi took him to the roof of the school and hugged him better. He remained in Yoongi's embrace for a long sober time. Later that day, he and Yoongi went to Yoongi's house.
Jungkook had been afraid that his reputation had been tainted for life. But just the previous day, a few students had apologized to him for what he had been through. Some offered him reassuring and friendly smiles. He even walked home with a group of friends, as they lived in the same neighborhood. At last, things were starting to look up for him. His school life was back on track, he had found a great friend in Yoongi. It was now time to focus on the bigger, most important aspect; his love life. And Jin was about to play a huge role in making that a success too, because he was going to confess how he felt to Jin.
Jungkook stepped into the elevator and pressed the button of Jin's floor. As he stood there, he felt giddy, yet nervous. He was about to do something he had never done before. And the courage had come from the little times he had spent with Jin, and the rare euphoric moment where he had nothing else to worry about.
He turned to view himself on the reflective wall. He had brushed his hair further into a quiff. His red long sleeved shirt was undone by four buttons, revealing white inner wear. While a sky blue ripped skinny jeans, hugged his legs elongating the length further. To finish off the look, he had worn his black vans he had gotten the last Christmas. To sum it up, he has dressed to impress. He was certain he looked the part. He looked way more mature than a sixteen year old high school student. He looked like a college boy. He wanted Jin to see it too.
When he stepped into the hallway, he walked past the busy dorms. Most of the rooms were open and the students engaged in various activities. Soft music played from various rooms. A few people sent him curious looks while some smiled at him. He smiled back but kept his eyes to himself.
Outside Jin's room, he knocked. His heart larruped in excitement of seeing Jin after so long. He couldn't wait to see Jin's face when he saw him. He would be so shocked. Jungkook snickered at the thought, already imagining Jin's handsome face pulled into a mixed inquisitive, stun and excited look.
He knocked again, moistening his lips. He looked at the time on his wrist watch. 10:58. It wasn't so early to go visiting, was it? Jin was probably still sleeping.
When Jungkook heard the door jiggle from inside he tried to hide his smile, mask his happiness, but failed. He blushed like crazy. As the door opened, an unfamiliar face appeared at the door way. A guy with jet black hair stood at the frame, his brows furrowed to the middle, then raised quizzically.
"Um..." Jungkook stuttered. His eyes darted to the room number; 277. It was the same room he had come to with Jin. "I'm sorry to bother. But are you the owner of this room?"
The guy nodded. He stepped into the hallway, standing a couple of inches shorter than Jungkook, skinny, in a vest and some jean shorts. "I am. Can I help you?"
"Um.. Yeah. I'm here to see Jin. I don't know if he's around. Does he still stay here? I'm sure this is his room," Jungkook said, a little confused.
"Jin? Yeah. This is his room. I'm his roommate, Hoseok," The guy replied.
"Oh." Jungkook recalled Jin mentioning a roommate. Plus, he remembered speaking to the guy when Jin had been out of time. "Yeah. He mentioned he had a roommate. I forgot. I'm Jungkook his friend, from town."
"Nice to meet you, Jungkook. Come on in." He pushed the door open and stepped out of the way.
Jungkook walked into the familiar room. He looked around and the memories of his last visit to the place flashed through his head. He sat on the couch, placing the bag of fruits he had bought on the floor next to his leg.
"Jin isn't around now. He went to school earlier. But he'll be back soon," Hoseok explained, walking in front of Jungkook.
Jungkook nodded and flashed him a smile. "Okay."
Hoseok rubbed his hands on his thighs. "Um, would you like something to drink?"
"No, thanks. I'll just wait for Jin."
"If you say so." Hoseok stepped away from in front of him. "Make yourself at home."
"Thank you," Jungkook said, gratefully. Jin's roommate was so nice. Jungkook had expected a snob, but the guy was exactly the opposite. He was friendly and accepting. It made Jungkook eager to graduate high school and enter the university. He needed friends like this.
Hoseok excused himself from the room, leaving Jungkook by himself and saying he had been doing laundry when Jungkook knocked.
Propping his chin in his hand, he rested his elbow on the arm of the couch and settled to watch MTV base while he waited for Jin.
When a knock came on the door, Jungkook looked over at it hopefully but Hoseok came in to answer it. It was Jin.
"You have a visitor," Hoseok said to Jin as Jin stepped in.
"A visitor?" Jin asked, confused then let his eyes shift to the other side of the room. He stiffened when his gaze met Jungkook's.
Jungkook was standing on his feet when Jin looked at him. He had a smile which he tried to hide by biting down on his lower lip.
"Kook.... Jungkook," Jin stumbled with words.
"Hi, hyung."
"He said he was your friend," Hoseok said to Jin, noticing how shocked Jin looked.
"Umm.. I... Yeah. He is," Jin stuttered. Jin stepped towards the couch. He had his backpack swung on one shoulder. "Jungkook.."
Jungkook had to hold himself down with so much restrain not to jump on Jin's body in a hug. He missed Jin so much, that looking at him sent his adrenaline rushing and he wanted to shout with joy and relief.
"Hyung," Jungkook called, smiling. "Surprised to see me?"
Jin let out an unsteady breath and gulped. His face was pulled in an uncomfortable wince. He looked conflicted, and Jungkook almost felt like Jin wasn't as happy to see him as he had thought he would be.
Jin shoved his hands in his pocket and looked towards his roommate, then back at Jungkook.
"What are you doing here, Jungkook?"
Jungkook smile fell. He blinked. "I came to see you."
"You should have called me." Jin didn't look happy. He didn't look angry either. He looked uneasy. Nervous. And not an excited type of nervous. The eyes darting, involuntary gulping, shaky breathes kind of nervous.
"I wanted to surprise you." Jungkook wanted to draw closer to him, embrace him and ask why he was acting that way. He had never seen Jin like that before. It was unsettling.
Jin let out another shaky breath. He fidgeted with his hands in his pocket.
"Are you mad that I came unannounced? I'm sorry. I just wanted to see you, that's all," Jungkook explained. He felt guilty for being the cause of Jin's discomfort.
"No." Jin shook his head. "Not that. I'm just shocked. What if I wasn't home? You know it's weekend. People travel. How are you?"
"But you're around now, right? What's the issue? And you have been calling me Jungkook. Did I do something?" Jungkook asked, his eyes unwavering from Jin's brown eyes.
Jin shook his head again. "You didn't. You didn't do anything."
"Seokjin?" Jin's head snapped past Jungkook to his roommate. "Can you see me for a minute?"
Jin nodded. "Sure." He turned back to Jungkook, and gave him a small smile. "Give me a minute."
"Excuse us, Jungkook," Hoseok said to Jungkook and left the room.
Jungkook watched as Jin left the room with Hoseok. He sat back on his seat, burying his head in his hands. His stomach turned. He hated the atmosphere that they had just experienced. There had clearly been a a heavy tension in the room. One he had never seen with Jin. Jin had been with him on so many occasions, they had slept in the same room for a night, he had visited this dorm before, they had hugged and looked into each other's eyes for minutes without saying a word, and Jin had never appeared as uneasy as he had been a few moments earlier.
Deep down, Jungkook couldn't help but feel angry butterflies prancing in the pit of his stomach. Something was up with Jin, and Jungkook knew it.
He was going to find out. He just needed alone time with Jin, and he was sure he would get the truth out of Jin.
