Chapter 8
Joyce's POV:
"Welcome Master Knight and Madam Knight. Young Master is currently on his way back from work and his chef has just arrived with his dishes." Joey greeted me and Ryan, my husband, professionally as he held the door open for us to enter.
"Thank you Joey. I hope Dimitri hasn't been too hard on you." He laughed softly while shaking his head.
"He's been treating me well Madam."
"That's great. I'm worried that he'll be hard to serve. I'm proud of you, so are your parents." His eyes teared up a little at the mention of his parents but he just wiped it away quickly.
"Thank you Madam. Here, this way please. The chef must have set up the dishes already."
"Hey, Joey?"
"Yes Master?"
"Would you like to come back with us tonight to meet your parents and maybe stay over for the week?" Ryan suggested without hesitation. He must have caught sight of his unshed tears.
"M-May I-I, Master? But how about Young Master?" Tears welled up in his eyes again as he looked hopefully at Ryan.
"Yes you may, Joey. Dimitri can take care of himself for a week. He has a chef which he 'loves' so much, so it should be enough for him."
"Thank you. Thank you Master." He bowed repeatedly in joy before continuing to lead us to the dining hall.
"In here, Master and Madam." Opening the doors, I caught sight of Ray carefully setting up the table as he arranged the plates neatly.
"Hello Ray."
"Oh! Hi Joyce. Nice to see you again. "
"Same here. This is my husband, Ryan. Ryan, this is Ray. The chef I chose for Dim and the one he favourites a lot."
"Nice to meet you Ray."
"Nice to meet you too, Sir-"
"Call me Ryan."
"I've made Japanese. I hope it's fine with you two?"
"We love Japanese food. Now I can't wait to try the food that you've made. Our son keeps complimenting your cooking and sending us pictures of it. They all look wonderful. I wanted to take you away from him and make you our chef but he'll most probably hunt us down." It's true. I'm not kidding.
"Haha. Thanks Ryan and Joyce. I hope you'll enjoy today's meal." He chuckled modestly before showing us our seats.
"Joey, you should go and pack now if you want to go with us. Ray can handle it from here." Joey looked at Ray hesitantly before rushing off when he gave him a firm nod.
"For the main, it will be katsudon and onion soup.
For sides, I've made prawn tampura, egg roll and sushi.
Lastly for dessert, I've prepared ice-cream stuffed dorayaki and matcha green tea mochi."
He announced today's menu with pride as he introduced to us the dishes on the table.
No wonder Dimitri likes this chef so much. His cooking and presentation looks like those by gourmet chefs. I can't wait to dig in. Let's not wait for Dimitri. He ate enough of all these good food.
"Let's start then!" Me and Ryan said in union before smirking at each other. No wonder they say couples think alike.
"Shouldn't we wait for you son?" He questions curiously as he stood behind his chair.
"It's alright. He's fine with it." Ryan replied quickly making Ray look around uncertainly before sitting down.
"Okay..."
Ray's POV:
"Mhmmm! This is fantastic! Can we make him our chef instead? Please?" Ryan pouted at Joyce making her roll her eyes and pinch his cheek lightly.
"I wish. I should have just gave our chef to him and have Ray as ours." Joyce sighed deeply in what seemed like regret as she massaged her temples.
"Then can we? His cooking is really as awesome as he has described." He moaned in delight as he bit into the matcha mochi.
"If you want an angry and grumpy gorilla stomping up our doorsteps the next day then...as you wish." Ryan shivered visibly at her words. Their son is not that bad...right?
"Hi mum, hi dad."
"Seems like the gorilla is here." Ryan joked as the footsteps became louder and louder.
That voice...that sound...I remember that voice anywhere.
"So how's the food?" Their son came into view as he stepped into the dining hall.
That face...those eyes... cheekbones ...nose and lips...no way.
"Hi kitten, missed me?" He asked casually as he leaned against the door frame.
"It's you?!" The asshole who took over my cafe and left me jobless! I'm working for him?! My luck can't get any worse than this.
"Yup. The one and only." He smirked proudly as he walked over steadily.
"Wait...so I've been serving you all the while?! You've got to be kidding me."
"It's me kitten. The macarons were awesome by the way." He winked annoyingly before walking over to the seat beside mine.
"I wouldn't have made them if I knew it was for you."
"I doubt so." He sat down casually beside my seat and popped a mochi into his mouth. "Awesome as always."
"You-"
"Do you two know each other?" Joyce finally asks as Ryan watch us interested.
"Sort of. We met a few times." That bastard replied while removing his blazer.
"Oh! That's great then. Ray, can you help me watch over him when Joey's gone for the week to meet his parents? Like just stay in the main house for this week? It's more convenient like this." This is like the worst thing that can come out from her mouth.
"What? But-urgh...fine...one week." I'm doing this for Joey and to secure my job.
"Thank you!" She chirped giddily as she bit into her dorayaki, moaning with every bite. At least she enjoys my food. I'm glad.
"You're...welcome..." I think I just signed my death contract.
"I'm looking forward to seeing you here."
"Get loss." He snorted in disbelief as he laid down on the row of comfortable chairs with his leg up.
"This is my house." If slapping someone isn't a crime, my handprint will be somewhere on him already.
Someone help me. I swear my luck just gets worse and worse.
