Chapter 19

*Jay Pov*

I ignored it! Actually, I tried to ignore it with everything in me, but I know I can't anymore. No matter what happened, I can't ignore her hurt.

"Have this food, Jhanvi." I finally said when I got to know she didn't have breakfast and lunch at all.

"You need to go to work too." I added, but she just sat on the bed with closed eyes.

"I am resigning my job." She said and I controlled myself to utter anything.

Of course, to go with them, she doesn't need a job here right. Well, what should I tell her? When, I know she is just waiting for the adoption panel to give us clearance.

But why is she sad when everything got settled with Ali? Is she feeling it because she has to stay away from him? Or because now she is stuck with me until divorce?

When will she ask for a divorce? After everything settles with the panel? I thought and just stared at her while she has a tired look.

"Here!" I said, sitting before her and took the spoon near her mouth for which she opened her eyes.

She gave a small smile and opened her mouth. I silently fed her and she ate it in silence while staring at me. What is she thinking? How to give the news of her decision?

"You look tired." She said and I felt shock for her observation, but didn't say anything about that.

Why would I not look tired? When it's been forty eight hours since I had a nice sleep. The last time I slept properly was lying in her arms.

Well, isn't it what I deserved? I lost my son with him calling Manohar as dad and now she is going to leave taking Lakshmi with her. Once again, I can be alone and maybe I should prepare myself to leave this city.

Last time it was just a minimal effort to forget the past, but now I have more desire to move away from here to not have failures plastered over my face again and again.

Maybe I am thinking too much when this was the case from the beginning. I sighed and stood up to leave, but glanced back to say something. However, she had already closed her eyes and leaned back.

She did everything like everyday without missing anything except for taking care of herself. Why is she sad? Do I have a right to ask?

"What happened, Jhanvi?" I finally asked and she opened her eyes with a sad smile.

"I am coming up with the terms myself. Can I talk to you about it later when I am prepared?" she asked and I nodded before walking away knowing well I was right about it.

They are going to leave me! With that thought, I don't know how I spent the next three days, but she is slowly recovering. I tried my best to make sure she is taking care of herself and not just Lakshmi.

Maybe I was wrong and it is something else that caused her detachment. But all those second doubts got washed away with her words when I was about to leave the house for work.

"Harsha and Ali will be here in the evening. I have something important to discuss. Will you be here early?" she asked while I just stared at her.

"I will try." I replied and walked away from her shocked face.

What? I should have jumped at the chance of you leaving me with my daughter? No! I could never do that and if my lateness will push that back then I will.

However, I couldn't stop myself and reached the house not early, but not too late. Then I walked inside to see Jhanvi's hand held by Ali.

"You did something and I did something. All I want now is forget everything." Jhanvi stated while he slowly nodded before moving to give her hug.

However, I turned back and walked to my car in anger strides before getting inside it and drove away from the place. I picked my phone when it started ringing and saw her name.

I just put it on silent and threw it on the dashboard and continued to drive with no idea where to go due to sudden restlessness.

Why are you so pricked that Jhanvi has chosen to forgive him? Yes! You will miss a friend, but... but you may get a new friend.

Maybe you are worried about her leaving with Lakshmi. But you can meet her regularly if you wish to. I pointed out myself and stopped the car near a park before leaning on the steering.

Then why? Then why am I so... so lost? I asked myself and gripped the wheel tightly, but just stayed like that.

You are being weak, Jay. What is the matter with you? I lifted my head, leaving the steering and slammed my hand on it before leaning back to the chair.

I glanced at the phone to see nearly five missed calls and immediately called her, hoping it is not some emergency.

"Is everything fine, Jhanvi?" I asked her when she lifted the call.

"Yes! I am sorry to disturb you. Lakshmi suddenly fell ill and I panicked. So, I called you but don't worry the doctor came and checked her. It was a good thing Ali was here to call the doctor and asked him to come to the house. She is fine now and you can continue with your work." She said in a normal tone and hung up while a new wave of guilt washed over me.

Here I was feeling pathetic for myself while my daughter was ill but I didn't do anything about it. Jhanvi couldn't reach me because of my stupidity and now she is telling me to get back to my work.

No wonder they leave! I thought and started the car before turning around to reach the house a fast as I can see how is she.

I walked inside the house and ignored everything before walking inside the Lakshmi's room to see her sleeping peacefully in her bed.

I knelt beside her bed and slowly placed my hand on her cheek before feeling the tears in my eyes seeing her tear stained face.

"I am sorry!" I mumbled and pressed a kiss to her head before pressing my head to her feeling the relief that she is fine.

"I told you she was fine, Jay. You shouldn't have left your meeting or your work. It was a mild thing." I heard Jhanvi's voice, but I ignored her and just held Lakshmi's face to assure myself she is fine.

"Jay!" Jhanvi said, kneeling beside me, but I continued to ignore her.

She sighed, but didn't move away but just sat down with her back pressing to the bed. I pressed and kiss to Lakshmi's head and sat beside Jhanvi.

"I didn't have any important meeting or any important work at the office, Jhanvi." I calmly said but she stayed silent.

"I even walked inside the house in the evening and saw Ali. You were saying something to him and I just turned around before walking away and drove myself around the city. I ignored your calls wontedly and finally called you observing so many missed calls." I added honestly.

"But why?" she asked and I gave a smile.

"I didn't want to hear you say that you decided to go with him. I didn't want to hear you say that you are taking away my daughter. But now I can see I am not a good father. I was supposed to be here when she needed me, right?" I asked turning towards her.

"But Jay..." she started saying, but I shook my head.

"I just did with Lakshmi what my Mom did with me. When I despise her then I should despise myself, right?" I asked and she frowned.

"What do you mean?" she asked frowning.

"I will tell you a story. You should have asked me when you got to hear Manohar calling me as step brother. But actually we are half brothers which is again false." I replied and she turned to stare at me.

"I am not getting a single word." She stated.

"Okay! There was a happy family. A father, a mother and a son. They are not rich, but they were happy. Then enter a villain actually a vamp. She wanted the man for herself and dangled her richness before him. The man being weak left with her leaving his wife and son. However, the man started missing his son. No matter what he loved his son. So, this vamp who was in stress with not being able to have a child due to medical condition for herself and with the man wishing for his son, threw a lie about being pregnant and acted the part. Finally, when the man was away for his business, a boy got conceived for her who was actually adopted. The man was happy and everything was going well for the vamp. With her always hating the boy, but not able to show it with her husband near her. So, threw that hatred towards his first wife and son. It took to worse when the man finally found out about the boy not being his son and left her to be with his first family." I said and snorted while Jhanvi gasped beside me.

"It was... it was you?" she asked, but I didn't glance at her.

"Then he was given words of hatred towards his father and the people he left him for. He was told that the boy to whom his father went is the someone else son and that the man cheated on vamp to be with that woman. The boy trusted everything because she was the only one in his life. He accepted it happily when she had no time for him and was busy with using tactics to get the man back. The boy ignored any hurt she threw at him either physical or mental because he was busy with hating three other people in his life. After a few years, again, everything went well with the man returning to them, but the hatred never left from the boy because he was told that the man returned to them as he needs the money of the vamp by his mother and the boy believed that. However, a new contempt started with the thought that everyone will do everything for just money." I stated and glanced at her.

"And?" she asked and I smiled at her.

"And he met a wonderful girl before immediately got her married. He was scared she will leave him and got her tied to himself because he wanted her forever. More than that he was scared of losing her like everyone else. Everything was fine again and his father already passed away way before and even his wife got pregnant. But then started a whole game of flowers, incidents and photos which pointed out of that wife having an affair along with his mom's words. The past contempt showed it's face that everyone does everything for money and didn't want to be in the place of his mother. So, he threw that person out. But then tried to forget everything with some affairs, but never getting trapped in a marriage to have another woman using him. However, it took a turn when the vamp got ill and started forcing marriage for which he blurted out how much hurt his first wife caused even with trying to pass someone else son as mine. Then the dam broke with her blurting out the truth of her planning everything to make me throw my wife out along with some obsessed girl who wanted him. He felt disgusted, but due to all those years of care from her he took care of her, but tried to find his family and found them. He did everything he can and then it burst into something else when that vamp blurted out each truth from the beginning to the end." I replied and leaned back closing my eyes when I felt a hand on mine.

I moved away from the bed and laid my head on her lap with a tight grip on her making her still but then she started passing her fingers through my hair like that day while tears rolled down from my eyes.

"He didn't know what to do, Jhanvi. All his life was a lie. The people he was hating should be the one's who should hate him. To top of it all, he doesn't know who his parents are. In the end, he doesn't know who are his family and the fake mother died after giving out all these truths. So, he became obsessed with not losing the other family again. And he did some amazingly obsessed things to not lose it, but in the end made everything worse. However, he realized the mistakes and decided to leave everything and go away. Then he met another person who was lost and he got himself lost with making sure that person comes out of it ending up with a family of his own which he craved all these years. But now he lost them too and he deserves because he failed again in taking care of his own daughter thinking about other things like his mother." I added and turned around to glance at her but saw her closed eyes.

I too closed my eyes and moved closer to her to press my face to her as if wishing to hide from all this and slowly drifted off into sleep.

In the middle, I woke up to see myself covered with a blanket and laying my head on a pillow. I turned around and smiled in relief.

Lakshmi and Jhanvi were sitting before the doll house playing. Then I heard Lakshmi saying, "Maa!"

"This is?" Jhanvi asked and I moved my head to see a man, a woman and a small boy along with a little girl dolls arranged in a line.

Jhanvi pointed out the boy and Lakshmi said, "Hash!"

"This is?" she pointed out the little girl.

"Laksh!" she replied and I smiled at her word.

"This is?" Jhanvi pointed out the man boll.

Lakshmi stared at it while I held my breath, but got it stuck when Jhanvi mumbled, "Paa!"

"Paa!" Lakshmi repeated and they both smiled.

Are they talking about me? No! There is a Harsha figurine with them. So, it must be Ali. I thought and turned around with my back towards them.

It is the right thing, Jay. After yesterday it was definitely the right thing! I thought and closed my eyes, trying to freeze everything inside.
