You're not alone (I)

(W)

The GCPD was swarmed outside the townhouse with the two bodies inside. The killer had alluded them, so Commissioner Gordon put his best detective on the case

The scene struck close to the Batman. A husband and wife brutally murdered, blood and debris everywhere. The woman's head was lying on her husband's chest, a trail of blood behind her. Was she dragged? No, she had crawled over to her husband, but was stumbling on her feet some point before.

Batman followed her bloody footsteps to another room; a nursery. Great. Now he couldn't sleep till he found the person who did this. So another child wouldn't go through what he did. But the child was...?

"Where's the kid?" Batman asked Gordon, knowing the commissioner was following him.

Gordon rolled his eyes and threw his hands up as he came into the room.

"Didn't find one when we got here. Looks like the baby was just brought home. I'll check with the MEs. Baby might not be in the system yet."

Gordon left to supervise the CSU team as they bagged the bodies.

Batman looked about the room, for anything. He found a broken frame on the floor and picked it up. A sleeping baby girl, her name written on the frame in beautiful script.

"Y/n"

As he held the picture, he heard a baby begin to cry. The wails grew louder and closer together, and Batman became more alert. The noise was in the room, but he couldn't find the baby. He turned on his sonar lenses and found hidden door in the wall next to to window. And a moving bundle behind it.

As gentle as he could, he opened the door and the cries hit him in the face. Bruce stared at the baby, then looked at the commissioner through the window. Gordon was busy talking to officers, but a memory crossed Bruce's mind.

"Come here. There you go. It's okay. It's gonna be alright."

Batman repeated the words in a soothing voice as he picked up the squirming baby, cradling her in one arm. Thank God that babies this young didn't open their eyes often. And thank you, y/n's mother, for leaving a bottle next to her baby. Batman gave the baby the bottle and she immediately sucked it, drinking fast.

He looked around as the baby drank, and found her drawers turned upside down. The baby bag was thrown to the corner, still to be unpacked, back from the hospital. When y/n had finished, he put her down and grabbed the pink bag, stuffing it with extra clothes, and the picture frame. As he bend over to pick up the frame, he saw the baby seat next to the shelf. Batman fitted the sleeping girl into the seat and snuck carefully out the house.

Boy, wasn't he going to hear a thing or two from Alfred.
