Chapter Three

"GO AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY WILLOW IT'S ONLY DAWN AND I'M TOO TIRED TO GET UUUUUUUUUUUP," Hazel whined as the green dragonet tugged on her shoulder.

Hazel, if we don't go now, your scary grandmother will not allow us to see the Poisonwings!" Willow pleaded.

"You mean Leafwings," Hazel corrected her automatically. "I mean, they're basically the same as us!"

Willow gave her a shy smile. "Yeah, you're right."

Hazel gave her a weird look. "That's... different. You wouldn't have met one, would you?"

Willow looked briefly horified, then guilty. "KEEP IT A SECRET!" she pleaded.

Hazel grinned. "Who?"

Willow looked away. "Sundew," she mumbled.

Hazel squealed. "OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!" She flared her wings rapidly. "YOU HAVE A CRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSH!"

"HAZEL SHUT UP," Willow yelped. "You said you'd keep it a secret!"

Hazel sighed. "Fine, but you owe me." Sweeping out of her treehouse, she winged her way toward the stately shape of the Queen, Sequoia. Willow landed beside her quietly.

"Ah, Hazel," Queen Sequoia addressed her, tilting her jaw. "Remind me why I'm letting you do this?" She growled as more dragons landed on the platform. Sighing, she lifted her elegant green wings, showing the scars on her side.

Hazel shifted uncomfortably. "I just wanted to meet them," she mumbled.

"Hazel." Queen Sequoia narrowed her eyes. "Don't. Mumble."

"Right, Grandmother." Hazel's wings dropped slightly before she snapped them back up, not missing the way her Grandmother frowned.

"Can we leave now, Your Majesty?" Willow asked, bowing low in a graceful way.

"Very well," Queen Sequoia sighed, "Let's go meet the enemy."
