Chapter Six
Ayup :D
Sumac stretched his wings out, flexing them as he twisted around in the sunlight. Next to him, Sundew was laying regally with her claws crossed and her wings folded. Her eyes were closed and she had a serene smile on her face, probably thinking of last night with Willow and Hazel.
One of the things that had been bothering Sumac all day was how frostily Willow was treating him. According to Sundew, she was normally a warm and friendly dragon, but she'd acted coolly towards him when they'd met. Hazel, on the other hand, had been in complete and total awe of Sundew, almost worshipping her in a way.
After a few more minutes of lying happily in the sun, a loud shout reached the comfortable Leafwing's ears. Sumac raised his head, ears swiveling forward as he attempted to see what the source of the commotion was. He was surprised to see his commander, Belladonna, marching through the trees with an angry expression pasted on her face.
Sumac nudged Sundew in the side. She rolled over grumpily, staring at Sumac in annoyance. Wordlessly, Sumac pointed at Belladonna, then leapt into a nearby tree to hide. He folded his wings up to hide the gold flecks and pulled vines over his shiny gold scales. Beneath him, Belladonna reached the clearing where Sundew was waiting, wings spread and head arched elegantly.
"SUNDEW!" the commander roared, skidding to a stop right in front of her daughter, who regarded her with a cool annoyance.
Without moving, Sundew sighed and rolled her eyes. "What did I do now, Mom?"
Belladonna's eyes narrowed as she glared at Sundew. "Nothing. Yet. You and your father are coming with me. We have a mission."
Sundew's spines rose slightly, the only sign she was surprised. Her face remained calm and passive, never changing. "Mind telling me what for?"
A strange light lit up the commander's eyes, a sort of maniac energy. "We're going to finally destroy the Hivewings."
