Chapter Four
Sumac watched Commander Belladonna leave the Leafwing- or Poisonwing -camp. Off to meet Hazel, he thought in sadness. Sumac had been put on guard duty for the past six days, meaning he couldn't meet the pretty Leafwing princess. At least it's only one more night, then I can go see her.
"SUMAC!!!" Sundew yelled, running over.
"Hey Sundew," Sumac said, backing away before Sundew could run into him. "So your mom is off to meet the Le-Sapwings?"
Sundew nodded, sighing. "AND she won't take ME with. I mean, I've known about them for a while, and besides you, I'm the only other non-ANCIENT dragon to know that they even EXIST!!! You'd think she'd let me go, right? But NOOOOOOO because I might MESS SOMETHING UP! WHO EVEN CARES??? I COULD TAKE CARE OF QUEEN WASP BY MYSELF IF BELLADONNA WOULD LET ME GO!" She continued her rant, and Sumac listened patiently, but inside he was counting down the seconds until he could go on guard duty to get it over with.
Finally, Sundew finished with a sigh. "I hate our Commander," she muttered. "Why can't I be the commander, or you? You'd be great! You're all INSIGHTFUL and WISE, but you still have SOME fire inside of you!! You could get us an alliance in two days and we'd beat the Hivewings in five!!! And if the Sapwings didn't accept we would, uh, kill most of them?" She stopped, suddenly looking embarrassed.
Sumac regarded her for a moment. "That last part didn't sound like normal Sundew." He leaned closer to the gold-spotted dragon, whose leaf-wings were twitching. "Have you met one?" he asked, curious.
Sundew blushed a dark green. "SHUT UP SUMAC!!" She yelled, shoving him. Sumac laughed and danced away.
"No, seriously," he told her, leaning in. "I've met one too."
Sundew blinked. "Well. Mine is named Willow." She looked down her snout at Sumac. "What's yours?"
Sumac grinned sadly. "Well, mine can't be in a relationship, because her name is Princess Hazel of the Leafwings, heir to Queen Sequoia's throne."
