Chapter 6
I woke up on Saturday morning to the smell of bacon and pancakes in the air. I assumed my mother was awake and the sweet aroma was coming from downstairs in the kitchen. I kicked the off the covers and checked the time on the digital clock that was sitting on my nightstand. It had just turned 9:24am. I got up and stretched before slowly walking downstairs.
My mother and I haven't spoken that about the situation anymore, she seemed to have just let it go. It didn't seem awkward anymore when we were in the same room. We actually talked and forgot about it.
I walked into the kitchen as my mother flipped over a pancake. The bacon had just finished cooking and the plate was sitting on the counter. When my mom wasn't looking, I snatched a piece off of the plate and turned around to quickly eat it.
As I shoved the last bit of bacon in my mouth, I turned around and noticed my mother was staring at me. "Stealing bacon again I see. You never get away with it Carly," she said as she put the pancake on a plate. She catches me every weekend somehow. I need to be more sneaky.
"Sorry mom, your bacon is just so good. I can't wait until breakfast to eat it. You make the best bacon ever," I said as my mother rolled her eyes.
"You say that every weekend." She added another pancake -a burnt one- to the plate. I grab my plate and take my seat at the table. I didn't even wait for my mother to finish the eggs. I was very hungry and I need to eat because today is going to be a busy day.
I started eating as my mom cracked the eggs and put it into the skillet. She looked over at me and just shook her head. "You couldn't wait until I finished the eggs huh?"
Obviously I couldn't. "No, I am really hungry and that food was asking to be eaten" I responded. I shoved one of the cut up pieces of my pancake into my mouth. I'm not going to lie, my mom makes the best breakfast ever.
I ate my breakfast while my mom fried the eggs. By the time she finished the eggs and slid them onto my plate, I had finished my bacon and one of my pancakes. I took a sip of my orange juice and ate the rest of my food.

I was in my room getting ready for the day. I just decided to go with a pair of jeans and a blue t-shirt. I saw my white shirt that had my name on it laying right on the top shelf of my closet. My mother had gotten that shirt made for me once when we were at a carnival. I kept begging her to let me get one but she would just say no and that it was just a shirt. I kept begging and begging and begging until she finally gave in and bought it.
It was so cool. I watched the lady as she did the first two letters of my name. I felt like it was the best thing in my entire life. That's probably because I was six.
My mom was getting ready to go out. Once she leaves, we can get to work. Everyone would come over after I sent out the text notifying them that my mom was gone.
I heard my mom walking down the stairs to the kitchen. It sounded like she had her keys in her hands and she was about to leave. I quickly ran downstairs to the kitchen to see her. She was wearing a nice white blouse with black pants.
She started to sit down but I grabbed her arm. "Mom, it's almost 12! You don't want to be late for your appointment! You should get going... like now!!" I said. She just looked at me with a confused look.
I had to get her out of here.
"What is going on with you? Do you really want me to leave that bad?" she asked. I stayed silent for a few seconds before responding.
"Well... not exactly... I-" I started to say but then she cut me off.
"I see what's going on here." She said while looking at me.
Uh oh.
She knows!!!
What do I do?!
"You want me to leave so you can have the house to yourself and be free without my presence. I understand," she said, starting to get up.
Phew!
"Ah! You caught me mom. Yeah, sorry, I just would like to have some me time today while you're out," I said trying not to sound high pitched.
"Okay well I'll go now. But no friends until I get back or you'll be grounded for a month."
"Yes ma'am. No friends whatsoever. I'm just going to Netflix and chill."
She nodded and kissed my head as she walked to the front door.
I sighed in relief as I followed her to the door.
"Bye mom!" I said as she was walking out of the door. She waved to me as she got inside her car, shutting the door. I watched her pull out of the driveway and drive down the street to the stop sign at the very end. She sat there for a minute before turning the corner and disappearing from my sight.
I shut the door behind me and texted my friends.
The chicken has left the coupe. Meet here in 15 minutes.
I put my phone away and ran upstairs to my bedroom and looked out the window, waiting for my friends.
10 minutes later, Riley's car pulled over on the other side of street and everyone got out and started to make their way to the door.
It's go time.
