Scorose
Err... No.
The Canon indication of a ship has never stopped people from shipping other stuff. Never. That said, let's clear up some details:
Scorpius/Rose (And Scorpius/Albus) have been around far longer than The Cursed Child. Some people shipped those before that abomination was even an idea.
Many people do not consider Cursed Child part of the Canon — because it isn't part of the seven books, or because it wasn't written by Rowling, or simply because it's so damn terrible. To those, it wouldn't matter whatever chemistry between A/S.
Some other people may think Albus isn't deserving of Scorpius, or that he should "get what he want" — according to the play, Rose (it doesn't make sense *in* play, but, that's another problem).
I don't ship Scorose because not only does it feel forced, Rose is just such an awful person and was pretty nasty to both Albus and Scorpius. I have read the book, but it didn't stick with me like the Harry Potter books did. And people mainly ship this because of the Fanart. Like... wtf. No. You've got to ship it for a reason. XD.
I seriously don't understand Scorose or any other ship with absolutely no build up, especially when it's canon just to shove heteronormativity onto it. Scorpius and Rose had like... 2 or three conversations, and all of them was showing Rose with clear distaste for Scorpius.
Scorpius and Albus spend every day together, tell each other everything, and say the most romantic things. So tell me how does it make more sense for Scorpius to be in love with Rose and not Albus...
Here are some more reasons that I included in my Scorbus Discussion:
Okay you guys, I feel like some things need to be said.First thing's first -- Scorpius's "crush" on Rose Granger-Weasley. I'm not going to deny anything -- I'm not going to say that he wasn't attracted to her, because he obviously was. And I'm not going to say that he is all of a sudden going to realize he has feelings for Albus and stop pursuing Rose, because he's not. At least, not at first. You, see, while I can't deny Scorpius's attraction for Rose, I refuse to allow that to negate the possibility (and likelihood) of Scorbus happening in the future. Because, you know what? While Scorpius may be crushing on Rose, it's quite obvious that he has deeper feelings for Albus, and, crush notwithstanding, would choose him over Rose anytime. I mean, come on -- who did Scorpius think about when he was fighting off the Dementors in the dark timeline?
Snape had said, "Think about those you love, think about why you're doing this." (Cursed Child, Special Rehearsal Edition, page 193) And at first, he tried to think of his mother, which obviously failed to work due to her death clouding the happiness he generally associated her with. But then... then Snape told him, "Listen to me, Scorpius. Think about Albus. You're giving up your kingdom for Albus, right?"
Albus.
ALBUS.
A L B U S.
Not Rose. Albus.
In fact, not once did Scorpius think about Rose in that entire scene. Her name didn't pop up once. Which is funny, because, last I remember, didn't Scorpius have a crush on her? Didn't Scorpius want to build a "palace of love" with her? Yet, when facing total darkness, when he was told to think of someone he loved... he thinks of Albus. And the kicker? It works. And then, later on. Scorpius and Albus are stranded, lost in time, and Scorpius tells Albus this: "Still, if I had to choose a companion to be with at the return of eternal darkness with, I'd choose you." (Cursed Child, Special Rehearsal Edition, page 265)
And the funny part is is that Albus responds with, "No offense, but I'd choose someone massive and really good at magic." Which, honestly, is exactly what I was thinking -- in fact, I'd argue that Rose would be the most practical person to want with you at the return of eternal darkness. She's a snob, yes, and self-righteous, yes, but at least she's brilliant and extremely talented thanks to the Granger side of her.
But Scorpius? Does he think of that? No, he says he'd choose Albus. Because, as you can see from earlier, he loves Albus. And going back to the whole crush thing with Rose -- honestly, you guys. Rose is constantly ignoring Scorpius. When she doesn't ignore him, she's aggressive and harsh and biting towards him. But Scorpius -- oblivious, persistent little Scorpius -- is unaffected by it.
A scene that particularly stands out to me is Act 1 Scene 10, the "bread" scene. Scorpius is talking, babbling, to Rose: "No, I meant it as a nice thing, you smell like a mixture of fresh flowers and fresh -- bread," and Rose pointedly ignores him in favour of talking to Albus: "Albus, I'm here, okay? If you need me." (Cursed Child, Special Rehearsal Edition, page 51)But then, as soon as Albus ignores Scorpius... Whether it's in favour of talking to Delphi, or because his dad forced him to, that's when Scorpius suddenly goes from sweet and innocent to hella salty.
There are several instances of jealousy throughout the script, which is even more apparent when performed live ("SCORPIUS appears at the back of the stage. He looks at his friend talking to a girl -- and part of him likes it and part of him doesn't...SCORPIUS: [to Delphi about going back in time] You shouldn't come...SCORPIUS: [to Delphi about Albus] Sounds like he's found a shoulder to cry on. How many owls has he sent you now?"). And when it's the latter situation, Scorpius actually pulls a My Father Will Hear About This™ and cries in front of Draco, to the point where Draco is compelled to go to the Potter's residence and say stuff like, "...my son is in tears and I am his father so I am here to ask why you would keep apart two good friends." (Cursed Child, Special Rehearsal Edition, page 129)
Come on, guys, come on.Then there are the parallels -- particularly, the Snape and Lily parallel I mentioned earlier. After Snape tells Scorpius to "Think about Albus" he tells Scorpius: "One person. All it takes is one person. I couldn't save Harry for Lily..." which basically is saying that, for Snape, that "one person" was Lily. He loved her, and she was his motivation to do better. But for Scorpius, that one person is Albus. What Lily was to Snape is what Albus is to Scorpius. Simple as that.
And then going back to the library scene. After Scorpius blows up on Albus, after Albus apologizes (and tells Scorpius he makes him stronger, that he's the best person he knows, that he's "kind...to the depths of [his] belly, to the tips of [his] fingers," etc.) he outstretches a hand to Scorpius and goes, "Friends?" To which Scorpius replies... "Always." (Cursed Child, Special Rehearsal Edition, page 144)
Always.
You guys, they REPEATED THE ALWAYS LINE.
And then Scorpius takes Albus's hand, and Albus pulls him into a hug.I mean, I can't even.Anyways... There's more evidence, I know, and you can ask me about it if you want. I just don't wanna have to type all of it out right now.
The aforementioned moments are all what I believe are the most profound, but be rest assured that there are plenty more.To end this, I just want to address something that is a very popular counterargument to the Scorbus within Cursed Child. And that is that "Well, why can't two guys just have a close friendship? Why do you guys have to make everything gay?"To which I say, NO. Okay?
When it's normal to see two guys kissing on TV and you don't bat an eye, THEN I'll stop wanting gay representation within media. But to say that two guys can't have a close friendship? That is LITERALLY all that guys have anymore! Tell me, how many close friendships become canon between two guys? What was that? You don't know? Well guess what people, neither do I. How many close friendships don't become canon? Let's see. Dean and Castiel. Sherlock and Watson. Merlin and Arthur. And, again, Scorpius and Albus. None of these are canon, despite the queer subtext glaring us in the face. Because, you know what, we live in a heteronormative society. We live in a society where two guys can protect each other, risk and give their lives to each other, freaking give up their kingdoms for each other, and it's still considered "just bros being bros" right?
But oh, a guy and a girl share a damn pencil and the romance is so alive. But I digress. What I'm trying to say is, guys, please try and look past the gender. If you can do that, then it becomes quite obvious that Albus and Scorpius are soulmates. That, as said by Delphi, they belong together. Because you know what? Imagine that everything in Cursed Child is the same, except instead of Albus it's Rose.
Imagine that.Imagine the awkward introduction, where Rose repeats her name three times, where Scorpius fumbles over his words and goes, "Hi Scorpius. I mean, I'm Scorpius...' Imagine that Rose stays for Scorpius's sweets regardless of the rumors about his parentage. Imagine Rose telling Ron that Scorpius is all she needs. Imagine Ron forcing them apart, and Scorpius and Rose crying on staircases and looking longingly across the room at each other for five minutes while music about unrequited love (Half Life by Imogen Heap) plays in the background. Imagine all the awkward hugs, imagine the affectionate teasing. Imagine Scorpius giving up his kingdom for Rose. Imagine Scorpius getting jealous when Rose talks to her crush, when she owls her crush. Imagine Rose's crush telling Scorpius that he and Rose belong together. Imagine Scorpius hugging Rose and quickly moving away, saying how he "wasn't sure. Whether [they] should. In this new version of [them] -- [he] had in [his] head." Imagine Scorpius wanting to be with Rose at the return of eternal darkness. Imagine Scorpius and Rose repeating the Always line. Just imagine. Now do you see it? That's exactly what happened in Cursed Child, except instead of Scorpius and Rose it was Scorpius and Albus. It's a lot more obvious when you replace his name with hers, isn't it? Except, it shouldn't be. And that's, I think, the worst part of it all.
