I say... yes, I think.

I don't really like Pansy so I find it really hard to ship this. She reminds me of many things, like for example, the girl who used to torment me. If Pansy was nice then I probably would ship this, but because of her reputation I don't really. It would be kind of cool though if they had an unlikely friendship.

But then again, Pansy is one of my favourite characters to interpret because what we've been given in canon is so biased and vague. She has a whole life to imagine, and we're left to determine which traits were true to Pansy, and which were falsifications made by Harry. Harry calls her "pug-faced" but Skeeter says she's attractive–not that Skeeter's word is anything to go by, but it does open up the question of how much of Harry's narration we can trust.

Harry was prejudiced against Slytherins, and she was always hanging off of Malfoy, who he hated. Of course, she was going to be seen as dreadful in Harry's eyes. The beauty of fanfiction and shipping is that we can take ambiguity and give characters their humanity.

There are tons of characters he misjudged (ie. Snape wants the stone, Tom Riddle is a trustworthy guy in this cool journal that swallows up ink, etc.). Harry isn't always right about people, so who's to say his hatred of Pansy was deserved? Yes, she did bad things. Does that mean she's a bad person? Not necessarily. That's a big part of what the Harry Potter series was about. Good people do bad things. Albus Dumbledore enabled abuse. James Potter bullied Snape. Severus Snape treated his students like crap. Xenophilius Lovegood turned in the Golden Trio. The list goes on and on. Harry Potter is about looking past people's flaws and mistakes.

So yes, I ship Pansy with Hermione, and whoever else strikes my fancy, because Pansy is more than the flaws Harry points out. She has a family, and feelings, and traditions to uphold. She has pressures put on her just like anyone else. And just because Harry never got the chance to see the things that made her beautiful doesn't mean I can't see them.

If Hermione was gay for someone, I would think most people would ship her with Ginny. As for Pansy, she really didn't have many moments in the book and rarely ever with someone other than Draco Malfoy. I'm not sure if she had interactions with Hermione ever, but I'm sure that there were a few.

I understand why some people may ship this even though Pansy has always been a real witch to Hermione, and everyone else. Although, I think it may just be the claim the Pansy and Hermione are opposites. I think the only thing that they don't have in common is that Hermione can be nice, but Pansy never was. There are probably more things that make them opposites, but I think they're very similar. They're both really smart, both went after a close friend (Ron and Draco), and they're both disliked by some of their peers.

There's just a few extra things I need to make clear... they never actually met as in had a verbal conversation. Does Hermione actually know Pansy? No, I don't think she does but she could have if they actually did get together. Of course, the animosity between them is something they'd overcome which I think makes their relationship stronger and real.

Hermione could probably stand her ground easily with Pansy. She never took flack from anyone, Ron and Harry included, so she could handle someone as tough as Pansy.

Slytherins are known for their ambition, which would actually match well with Hermione's own work ethic.
