Chapter 7 - A New Friend

When you woke up you were surprised to find no food awaiting you on the desk, until you remembered the little "message" you left for Jim last night. 'Today will be the day I starve to death, won't it?' You think as you mentally kick yourself for writing that on the notepad. You look around the room and notice something that wasn't there last night.

On the opposite wall, directly in front of you was a somewhat large mirror with an ordinary black frame around it. You frowned at the reflection you saw staring back at you. You had become slightly thinner over the past few days and there were bags under your eyes, your hair was getting greasy and oily and tangled up from not brushing it or showering, and you could see the handcuff around your wrist.

This sight made you want to cry. This definitely wasn't how you wanted to look when you died. You didn't want to die at all, but your mind wouldn't let you forget that you were trapped in the home of a psychopath, who may or may not care about you, you really weren't sure anymore.

You quickly look away from the mirror and decide to try to sleep again since it was your only option. The notepad had been taken away while you were asleep and there was nothing else to do. "Jim, why can't my punishment be over yet?!" You cry into your pillow.

You were startled by the sudden and unexpected answer behind you. "Maybe it can be, but it depends on how you act today." You could almost hear the smirk that must have been present on his lips.

You didn't look at him, you just kept your face buried in the soft pillow. You didn't really want to talk to him and you were scared of what he meant.

This time you heard his soft footsteps approach the bed and your muscles tensed instinctively. "We'll be having a guest over today so..." Jim said as he took off your handcuff with a small key. "you better get ready. The maid will show you to the bathroom. Our guest shall be here in a few hours." And with that he walked briskly out of your room and vanished down the hallway.

You got up cautiously from the bed, glad to be able to walk around again. Your legs were a bit weak and you stumbled a few times trying to get to your door. When you finally made it, you were met with the maid Jim had mentioned. It was the same girl who had given you the notepad and for some reason that made you smile. 'Probably just because she's a familiar face, I guess. I'm glad she wasn't fired, or worse, for giving me the notepad.' You thought.

Being able to take a shower again was almost heavenly. Having the soothing warm water run down your back and onto your hair felt amazing and you stood in the water raining down on you for a few minutes before washing your hair and body. Once you forced yourself to get out and dried off, you found some clothes folded up sitting on the counter for you. You realized on further examination that they were the clothes that you had bought at the shops before you were kidnapped. They fit well and looked quite casual yet classy at the same time. You weren't sure who this mystery guest would be, but you guessed it wasn't anyone too important or else Jim would have given you better clothes.

You put on some simple makeup then dried your hair and put it up into a messy bun. "Such a tumblr look" You chuckled to yourself. You took off the bandage around your wrist to find that it healed up almost completely.

You leaned against the counter and stared at yourself in the mirror for a minute, studying your face. You had put on enough makeup to cover the weakness that had been visible on your face before and put on a small fake smile. If it was for Jim, the guest, or even yourself, you weren't certain. You definitely didn't feel like smiling, that's for sure.

You opened the door to the bathroom and walked out into the hallway where the maid, who told you her name was Beth, was waiting for you. She smiled at you and gestured you follow her before she started walking down the hall.

She stopped in front of two double doors and knocked. "Come in." You heard Jim call. Beth opened the doors and bowed slightly before leaving you alone with the Irishman. You didn't know what to do or say so you just stood in the doorway, awkwardly shifting from foot to foot.

"Come here, kitten." Jim spoke as he organized folders and papers on his desk. You hesitated for a moment before slowly walking over to him. He stood up and looked you up and down and circled you a few times before stopping in front of you again. "You look better now. Our guest won't be so worried about you." Jim said with a small smirk. You could tell he was keeping something from showing in his eyes but you couldn't quite place your finger on what it was.

"Who's the guest?" You asked with a small voice, shrinking away from Jim some. He grabbed your upper arms and leaned in close to your ear.

"That's for me to know and for you to find out. You'll recognize the person when you see them though." He whispered then pulled away slightly, his face still inches from yours. Jim's eye were still trying to hide that emotion you couldn't quite figure out. Was it lust? No, it was something more innocent than that. It couldn't actually be love, could it?

"Do you still hate me?" He asked in a somewhat quite voice. He sounded genuinely curious but he tried to cover that with a teasing tone. You stood there, looking into his eyes, silently. You had no idea how you felt about him anymore.

"I- I don't know." You whisper as you move your stare to the floor. "I'm not sure how I feel about-" You were cut off by Jim lifting your chin up and kissing you softly. This surprised you and you wanted to kiss back but you didn't. You couldn't do this anymore, you had to find someone else to love. Falling in love with a psychopath wasn't a good idea, let alone a criminal one.

He pulled away from you and you could see for a split second that there was disappointment in his eyes. He turned around and walked back to his desk and sat down, not looking at you anymore. "There's some breakfast downstairs for you. Go eat it before our guest arrives." He said quite sternly. You were quick to listen to his order mainly because you were starving, but also because you didn't want him to get angry with you for disobeying him a second time. As you walked out of his office though, you glanced back and saw Jim sitting with his elbows resting on the desk and his head in his hands, as if he had just made a huge mistake. Deep down inside, you felt like you might have just made one too.

You hurried downstairs and realized just how big Jim's house was. After about 5 minutes of wandering about you found the dining room and sat down. A maid brought you your breakfast and you ate it quickly. It was wonderful to finally have an actual meal to eat again.

You were just about to stand up and return to your room when there was a loud knocking on the front door. You looked around expecting to see a maid or butler come answer the door, but no such thing occurred. You wondered if it would be alright if you answered it, but at that moment you saw Jim come downstairs and hurry towards the door.

"Ah good morning Sebastian." Jim said to the person at the door, who was just out of your line of sight. "Is our guest with you?"

"Not yet, boss." Came a rough disembodied voice you presumed to be Sebastian's. "He hasn't left his flat yet."

"Well, I suppose that's fine. Sherlock hasn't figured everything out yet, but just make sure to have him by tonight." Jim sighed.

You tried to get up to go back to your room quietly, but the chair you had sitting in creaked as you stood from it. Jim's eye darted over to you and he smirked, "Kitten, come here. I'd like you to meet someone."

You slowly walked over to the door and smiled weakly to the man at the door. Jim wrapped his arm around your waist, but only because he saw you looking longingly outside at the freedom that was only a few feet away. "Hello." You said politely to the man at the door.

He stepped inside and closed the door behind him. Although your chance at running away was gone, Jim's arm didn't leave your waist. It felt nice to have such close human contact after being stuck in that room alone for days, but at the same time his close proximity was a bit unnerving. Jim's hands were just as cold as they were when you had bumped into him first. You smiled at the memory and for a second you didn't want him to ever let go of you.

"Hello, you must be (y/n). Jim's told me a lot about you." Sebastian said with a small smirk. You looked up at Jim to see his face redden a little as he glared at the blonde man.

"My name is Sebastian Moran, but you can just call me Seb." He held out his hand and grinned. You shook it and smiled back with a genuine smile. You liked that he was brave enough to tease Jim and how friendly he was to you, despite his rough military look.

"If you two don't mind, I have a bit of work to finish up in my office. I'll be back down in a few minutes." Jim stated as he let go of your waist. He walked upstairs, leaving you alone with Sebastian.

"So, Seb, you work for Jim, right?" You ask as you try to get a new conversation going.

"Mmhmm. I'm his top sniper. I've known him longer than I've been working for him though, ever since we were teenagers. Man, was it hard for us back then." Sebastian chuckled a little. "I've gotta say I'm glad he met you, you've brightened him up a bit. You've given him something to live for, I guess you could say." He smiled at you and walked into the living room and sat down in a chair.

You stood still for a moment, repeating and thinking about Seb's words in your mind. 'How could someone like Jim need someone like me in order to be happy?' You shook your head a little and cleared away your thoughts before joining him in the living room, sitting on the couch. "What do you think would happen to Jim if I left him?" You asked Sebastian worriedly.

"Why? Has something happened?" Seb asked curiously but also with a tone of concern. Obviously he didn't know about your "punishment" but you weren't really sure what to say so you just shook your head and waited for an answer. "Well, if you were anyone else, I'd say he would probably go back to being bored all the time and playing more of his games with Sherlock. But because of how much interest he has shown in you, I'd guess he might fall back into his depression again."

You sat there thinking, opened your mouth to say something but closed it before any words could escape. 'I would've never guessed that I could be the cause of depression for someone, especially Jim.' Your brain was telling you to leave and save yourself, but your heart was telling you to stay and save Jim. You couldn't choose and you honestly didn't want to at the moment. You just pushed the thoughts out and looked up at Sebastian again, only to find that he had been watching you the whole time.

"Is something wrong, (y/n)?" Seb asked you with obvious concern in his voice.

"No, no, I was just...thinking." You said with a small smile, trying to make it seem like there wasn't an internal war going on inside you at the moment. He smiled back and it made you feel better. Although Sebastian was a killer, that didn't really bother you, you looked past it on account of his caring personality and kind smile. From the looks of him and his personality, you could tell that he only killed when necessary, unlike Jim who might do it for fun. You were about to ask Sebastian more about Jim when you heard footsteps coming downstairs.

"I finished up my work, so I should be free for the rest of the day." Jim said as he walked into the living room. "I'm glad to see you two have made acquaintance with each other." He added with a smirk, before sitting down on the couch next to you. He leaned over to kiss your cheek, but you had made up your mind and went against your better judgement, and turned your head so he kissed your lips. You kissed him back this time before pulling away and grinning at him. Jim was surprised at first, but then grinned back childishly as he pulled you into another kiss.

"You two do make a cute couple, but could we turn the public affection down just a bit?" Sebastian chuckled, as your face flushed red and the two of you broke the kiss.

"Sorry, Seb." You apologized with a giggle. "Do you guys want to watch a movie or something?" You looked from one to the other, waiting for an answer but they both just shrugged and nodded. "Movie it is then." You laughed.

After grabbing the remote, you cuddled up next to Jim and turned on the tv. It took awhile to decide on a movie everyone wanted to watch but finally you ended up on an action/sci-fi.

Half way through you dozed off and when you woke up there was only five minutes left in the movie. You looked around and found that Sebastian wasn't there anymore. "Where's Seb?" You asked Jim sleepily.

"He had to go off on a job that came up. He said he'll be back later."

"Oh, ok. What do you think we should do now that the movie is over?" You look up at Jim and see a new emotion start to fill his eyes.

"Well..." He smirked devilishly, "Since we're alone and you've learned your lesson, how about I show you how nice my bed is now?"

---------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the terribly long wait for this update. I've been really busy with school and some things in my life, but I'm back to writing and I changed how this chapter panned out so it could have more opportunity of becoming a better transition to an upcoming event that'll take place, so it took a bit longer for me to write than previously thought. Can't say too much, but there will be a pool scene quite soon and you'll have to make a serious decision ;)

Do you guys want smut in the next chapter or no? Let me know in the comments
