Chapter 3 - Girls Night In

You woke up the next morning to the sound of your phone ringing on the nightstand beside your bed. Looking down at your phone while rubbing sleep out of your eyes, you realize it's your coworker, and best friend, Gwen.

"Crap..." You groan as you jump out of bed when you see you're an hour late for work. You answer the phone and hear a worried Gwen asking why you're not at work.

"I'll be there in fifteen minutes! I woke up late." You say before hanging up and quickly getting ready. You threw on a simple t-shirt and some jeans. You put your hair up into a messy bun and put on minimal makeup. Grabbing your jacket on the way to the door, you rush out of your flat and get a cab to the café.

Gwen follows you into the back when you finally get to work. "I thought something happened to you y/n. You never wake up late, what happened today?" She asks with a frown as you put your coat and purse into a small closet and put on an apron.

"Sorry I worried you, I just forgot to set my alarm. I got home late last night and I had a lot on my mind." You told her before walking out to take someone's order.

She followed you out and behind the counter so she could take someone else's order. While she was making their drink she stopped you with a silly grin on her face. "I'm coming over after work so you can tell me about last night, okay?"

"Fine, but only if we can have that movie marathon we've been talking about having." You say with a laugh and she nods.

~
You only had half an hour before your shift was over when you got a text.

I need to talk to you about last night. Can I come over today?

****
I don't know about today. I'm a bit busy with some plans I made with my best friend.

Please, I need to clear some stuff up about us. Are you free tonight?

Fine, I guess I am. I'll text you later when you can come over.

You put your phone away when you didn't get anymore texts and finished your shift with a few more orders. You clocked out and waited for Gwen to grab her things before the two of you walked back to your flat. After some discussion it was decided that you'd be watching comedies and chick flicks when you got home.

"So why were you out so late last night?" Gwen asked as you unlocked your flat and walked in. She turned towards you and jokingly added, "Did you finally go on a date with a guy?"

She was your best friend so she respected your choice to block out love ever since your last boyfriend cheated on you and lied profusely about everything, but sometimes she still tried setting you up with people, thinking you'd be happier if you found the right person.

"Actually, Gwen, I did. He took me out to dinner." You said in a slight matter-of-fact way. She squealed and jumped up and down like a young child on Christmas morning.

"Oh my god! Give me details! What's his name? What does he look like? What was dinner like? Where did-"

"Calm down Gwen. I can only remember so many of the questions." You tell her with a wide smile. "First off, his name is Jim and he's got dreamy brown eyes, black hair, and usually dresses in Westwood suits."

"Oooh, where did you meet this 'Jim'?" She asked, calming down a bit now but still standing there with a silly grin plastered on her face. You recount to her how you had run into him, literally, on your way home from work and what had followed. "I can understand why you like him," Gwen said with a giggle. "What about dinner last night though?"

"He bought me a dress and took me out to a really expensive restaurant, hold on I'll get it..." You said, running into your room to get the dress, not mentioning the run-in with the drunk men and the situation that followed. Her jaw dropped when she saw it.

"Wait, this was your first date with him, right? And he bought you that?"

You smile and nod.

"Wow, he's definitely a keeper then," She giggled. "Any flaws about him?"

You weren't sure what to say. You knew that Jim wouldn't want you telling her that he was a criminal mastermind and you didn't really want her to know how dangerous he was, but you've always told her the truth before. "Um...well, not really, but I guess you could say he hasn't always been a, uh, law-abiding man."

"Oh so he's that kind of guy. You've always been into bad boys, haven't you?" Gwen smirked and playfully nudged you with her elbow.

You roll your eyes and laugh, glad that she didn't ask what kind of illegal things he did. "So what movie do you want to watch first?" You ask, trying to quickly change the subject as you sit down on the couch, Gwen sitting down too.

~
By 8:30 you had watched five movies and the both of you had laughed and cried through them and ate two whole bowls of popcorn and some other snacks. You decided that was enough movies for the night and a very tired Gwen agreed.

"So are you gonna remember to set your alarm tonight?" She laughed as she got up to grab her coat and purse.

"Oh that reminds me, Jim said he needed to talk to me tonight." You remember when her comment brings back memories of last night. "I guess I'll let him know he can come over now." You pick up your phone and text him.

"Well then I've got to stay until he gets here. I want to see this guy for myself." Gwen said, perking up a bit with a grin as she sat back down on the couch.

Sorry this chapter is kinda short and boring. It's mostly a filler chapter and the next one will be longer and have more exciting things in it. I'll be publishing that one either tomorrow or the next day hopefully.

With school starting in a week I'm pretty busy with school shopping and dealing with classes and getting the right supplies I'll need so sorry for the wait. Starting high school is pretty stressful lol.
