Chapter 12 - A Note

You woke up the next morning to find yourself alone in bed. Disappointed, you slouched out of bed and went to the bathroom before getting dressed and walking out to the living room. You nearly jumped when you saw Jim sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper. "I thought you left." You laughed as you sat down next to him. He folded the newspaper up and set it on the coffee table as he chuckled.

"Why would I leave you alone after last night without saying anything? I may be a psychopath but I'm not a jackass." He grinned as he grabbed your hand. "Wanna go get some breakfast?"

"How about we make it here instead? I don't feel like leaving the house yet." You said with a smile.

"Sure, that sounds good too. Do you want breakfast now?"

You shook your head and leaned onto Jim. "I want to cuddle with you for a little bit first." He smiled and wrapped an arm around you and pulled you closer. You laid your head on his shoulder and smiled lightly. "We should watch a movie." You said softly as you inhaled his comforting scent. He picked up the remote and turned on the TV. He flipped through some channels until he found a movie. You grabbed a blanket from the back of the couch and wrapped it around you as you snuggled closer to Jim. He smiled to himself and kissed the top of your head.

Half way through you accidentally fell asleep against him and he chuckled lightly once he noticed. He moved a decorative pillow onto his lap and moved you slightly so you were laying on his lap with the blanket over you. He subconsciously started playing with your hair while watching the rest of the movie. You woke up before the film ended, but you just closed your eyes again and turned over so you were facing Jim's stomach and snuggled against his shirt. "Kitten, I know you're awake." he said softly as he moved some hair away from your face. "Do you want breakfast now?"

"I do, but I just got comfyyyy." you pouted dragging out the 'y' and wrapping your arms around his torso.

"Well you can't have both. So what will it be? Breakfast or lay here and starve?" He laughed.

You sighed and got up and pecked his lips. "Alright, breakfast it is."

You both smiled and went into the kitchen and decided on a simple breakfast of cereal, mostly because it was the only thing you really had at the moment for breakfast. You sat at the table together and ate.

"Do you have work you have to do today?" You asked Jim as you finished your cereal and took your bowl to the sink.

"One job but that's it. It might take me a while but that's later and then I'll be back to take you out to dinner." He smiled as he got up as well and brought his bowl to the kitchen. He set it down on the counter and wrapped his arms around your waist from behind. "Then after dinner you're coming back to my place." He kissed your neck a little as you giggled.

"Well if you say so..." you smiled and playfully rolled your eyes. You turned around in his arms and placed your hands at the nape of his neck. "Thank you for the dress and the ring by the way."

"It was my pleasure, love. I can't wait to see you in that dress." He smirked and leaned forward and kissed you. You kissed back and smiled against his lips. He picked you up and set you on the counter and deepened the kiss before trailing them down your neck. "Jim...Jim..." you breathed out as you tried to stop him but he kept going. "Jim, I have work soon. I don't have time to fool around." He stopped and looked at you.

"Not even just a quicky?" He playfully pouted. You shook your head and pecked his lips before apologising. "Damn...can't you just be late to work today?"

"No, Jim. We'll just have to wait until later."

He sighed and helped you down onto your feet again. "Okay." He pecked your cheek and smiled. You grinned back before checking the time then walking over to grab a light jacket from the coat stand.

"I've gotta go to work now, but I'll be home in a few hours. What are you gonna do while I'm gone?"

He thought for a moment. "Probably just go home and do some paperwork until you get off work or my next job comes up, which ever comes first."

You nodded and walked over to him. "I'll see you later, love." After a quick goodbye kiss you left your flat and walked to work. The sky was a light blue with only a few wisps of white clouds streaked through it and you felt content while walking. That is until you reached the cafe. A torn piece of paper was taped to the window. You pulled it down and looked at it. In messy writing it read:

I'M BACK, (Y/N)

The handwriting looked familiar but you couldn't place whose it was. You folded it up and put it in your pocket without much thought and unlocked the cafe door and flipped over the sign on the door so it said "Yes, we're open!" You felt a bit put off by the note but decided to keep it to yourself when Gwen arrived a few minutes later.

The way they had written your name was so familiar, yet seemed lost in your mind. You tried to keep your mind off of it most of your shift, but finally went through the people it could be when you were clearing tables. Your heart sped up and your hand opened, sending the glass you were holding crashing to the ground when your mind landed on Chris, your psycho ex-boyfriend. It was his handwriting.

Gwen ran over to you when she heard the glass shatter on the floor. "Are you alright?" You didn't want to worry her so you nodded and brushed it off as a simple accident. Grabbing the broom from the back room, you started cleaning up the mess and decided to go home a half hour early.

Something felt off as you walked back to your flat, almost as if someone was watching you. You kept glancing over your shoulder and looking around as you hurried down the sidewalk.

You walked into your flat and locked the door and leaned against it. You thought about Chris. 'How did he get out of prison early? How did he find where I work? What does he want?'

Sighing, you sat on the couch and turned on your telly and closed your eyes. Sleep came over your worried mind but you woke up when there was a loud knock on your door a few hours later. You got scared but when you looked out the peephole you saw Gwen and let out a sigh of relief.

You had forgotten about your date with Jim and smiled as you opened the door. Gwen smiled as well when she saw you and came inside. "Thanks for coming over to do this for me. You're better than I am at doing beauty things." You laughed lightly, but Gwen said it was nothing and that she was happy to do it.

You decided to focus on Jim and the date and not worry about Chris, maybe it wasn't even his handwriting. Maybe you had mistaken someone else's writing as his. You had Jim to protect you anyways. After putting on the dress and letting Gwen do your hair and makeup, and thanking her, you looked at yourself in the mirror. You looked better than you had in a long time and it brought a small smile to your lips.

"I have to go now but message me after your date when you can. Wanna hear how it goes." Gwen grinned and hugged you quickly before grabbing her things and adding. "You look gorgeous by the way." You smiled wider.

"Thanks. I'll talk to you later and thank you again for doing all this for me." You gesture to your hair and makeup and went over to the door to open it for her.

After a half hour of waiting on the couch and watching telly, Jim knocked on your door.

You stood up and straightened your dress before opening the door. "Hello, Jim." You beamed. Jim smiled back and looked you up and down.

"You look absolutely stunning." A slight blush crept onto your face and you thanked him and returned a compliment. "Shall we be going?" He asked as he extended an arm. You nodded and linked arms with him and followed him out to the car parked in front of your flat.

"So where are we going this time?" You questioned with a small smile you just couldn't help while looking out the window. He smirked and put a hand lightly on your knee.

"You'll have to wait and see." You thought of all the possible places in London it could be. You knew it would be an expensive, upper class sort of restaurant but what you didn't know was the fact that someone would be following your every move from the moment you got in the car. The note had slipped away from your mind and that might have been your first mistake.

Hello! It's been quite a while since I've updated since I've been busy with school and such but I've been working on this as much as I can. This chapter was a bit hard to write so it might have been a little hard to understand but I'll look over it again another time. Hope you liked it!
