Chapter 1
I couldn't sleep that night. I couldn't sleep most nights. Not after what happened to my family, it haunts me. Every night I hear their screams, I look at the physical scars my alcoholic father gave me and the emotional scars my mom and baby brother left me with. I would cry a lot, not in front of my roommate though.
My roommates name was Chrystal. She is one of the kindest people you'll ever know. It's like she can sense when something's wrong. She may be a flirt but I'm fine with it. We flirt with each other all the time but we both know we're just friends.
We may have a lot in common like being girls and being bisexual, having short hair, etc., but we also have a lot that's different about us. While I build up my walls and boundaries, she tries her best to help me bring them down. I feel like everyone needs someone like her in their lives. She can make some.. dumb decisions but its fine. We all do.
Chrystal and some other friends of ours have joined a track team lead by none other than Emma. She's like a sister to me. She's so sweet and wholesome, she's the exact definition of a cinnamon roll. I was never into sports or anything athletic other then lifting weights and military training, I picked that up from my dad. He was in the military. He was my idol until he became a useless drunk.
At the moment Chrystal was about to head out to go to her track meet. I let her take my car since hers was broken, it got too old to function so until she can work up enough money to buy a new one she'll have to use mine. But to be fair, it's not that easy for a college student to get much money. Hell the best money you could get at this age is minimum wage at McDonald's. But I make us enough money for the bills by selling my artwork. In return she cleans and makes food, I do too sometimes but I'm usually too lazy. She always has so much energy while I'm over her sleeping on the kitchen floor because I couldn't be bothered to get to my bed (true story).
I am the laziest person I know. My short brown hairs always a mess and my eyes are baggy from all the sleeping I do during the day.
Chrystal gets plenty of beauty sleep which is probably why she's so pretty and I'm look like a sock somebody wore for five years then filled with pennies, deep fried, and ate. I look like the shit he took after eating it.

"ALI!!~"
"You don't need to yell I'm right here." I called from the living room. Crystal looked happy. She just got back from track. Take a guess at what I did the whole time...... binge watched anime and slept. The usual.
"I got a cute guys number~" she said while digging through her hoodie pocket. She eventually pulled out a small strip of paper.
"Ooohhh" I said, wiggling my eyebrows.
She just blushed and shook her head.
"No no, I'm not into him like that. I actually want to matchmake you two." She mumbled that last part so I couldn't hear it.
"Right" I said facing the TV.
"I'm actually planning on inviting him over for dinner!" Crystal exclaimed excited. I turned my head slowly to look at her with a straight face.
"And you didn't bother asking me." I stated, not in a questioning way but more matter-of-fact-ly.
"Well it's my house too so I thought it wouldn't matter." She was right.
"Damn, I guess that's true." I stated. Chrystal just let out a small chuckle in response.
"I'll tell him he can come over. He actually doesn't live that far away, just a few blocks down actually."
"That's cool. I need some sleep call me when he's on his way." I said while walking toward the stairs.
"Got it!" She said excitedly. I just rolled my eyes and walked up to my room.
I didn't actually have to sleep, I just wanted to go up to my room. Don't get me wrong, I love talking to her! It's just that I downloaded a book on my phone called Lifeboat 12, it's by Susan Hood, and I was really excited to read it. I mean I've already read it like five times but I wanted to read it again, it's a great book!
I got up to my room and opened the book on my tablet. I read like seven chapters before passing out and dropping my tablet onto my lap.
