Chapter 21: Dresses and Skirts
Previously
"...g-good night..."
I turn away from PJ and cringe.
'Oh my Jesus Christ...'
I push that thought away and instead, think of Ms. Avery.
How's she doing right now?
When will she gain consciousness?
Will she even...?
I try to shove away the negative thoughts and just fall asleep. I close my eyes and imagine a night sky. Tiny white dots of stars shine brightly and the crescent moon glistens in the darkness.
I'm about to fall asleep before I hear a voice.
"...good night..."
A pause.
"(Y/N)."
Now
I wake up to the sound of giggling and muffled snickering. I look at the entrance of the fort and see Mr. Ink and Mr. Error. Mr. Error is holding 2 pans together and Mr. Ink is holding a mini speaker. I look to my sides to see Cil and PJ still sleeping soundly.
They see me awake and signal for me to come out of the fort.
I silently crawl out of the fort and sit down, giving them a puzzled look.
"Cover your ears," Mr. Error whispers.
Mr. Ink turns on the speaker and starts yelling while Mr. Error clashes the pans together.
They both start yelling,
"I GET NO SLEEP BECAUSE OF Y'ALL!
Y'ALL GET NO SLEEP BECAUSE OF ME!"
Cil and PJ jolt up.
"Aah! Freaking hell!"
"Make it stop!"
They both exclaim at the same time, covering their ears.
Mr. Error stops and laughs along with Mr. Ink. I let out a soft "heh" sound.
"It's only 10 am..." Cil complains.
"Well, get up, lazybones. Breakfast is ready!" Mr. Error ruffles Cil's hair and gives PJ a pat on the back.
The two get up and I stay down, kinda staring at the floor.
I flinch slightly when Mr. Error holds his hand out for me in a sharp movement. I look at his hand then at him and back at his hand again. All the while, he keeps a cheerful smile, something I haven't seen him do very often. I hesitantly grab his hand and he pulls me up.
"You can wait 'till PJ and Cil are done."
I nod and they go to the kitchen for breakfast I assume.
Then a thought pops into my head.
"O-Oh, wait..."
They both turn around and look at me, waiting for a continued sentence.
"U-Um some..." I hesitate, "...friends... invited me to g-go shopping a-at 2 t-today. C-Can I g-go?"
"Sure. What time will you be back?" Mr. Ink asks.
"Uhhh umm I-I don't know. M-Maybe around 4?"
They both nod and continue their way to the kitchen.
I start taking apart the pillow fort so that the couch could be useable again.
First, I pick up the books up off the chairs that are weighing down the blanket roof. Again, I use magic because they were heavy textbooks that I couldn't possibly carry with one hand. I take off the blanket and fold it as neatly as possible. Then I move the chairs back to the dining table in the kitchen, forcing myself to do it with one hand so that I wouldn't get caught. I go back to the living room and start stacking the couch cushions back where they belong with levitation magic.
"Morning, (Y/N)!"
I turn my head to the source of the sound. It's Cil. He energetically runs down the stairs, skipping every two steps.
"M-Morning..."
"You can go now!"
"B-But I'm not fin-"
"It's okay! I got it!"
"O-Okay..."
I walk upstairs, passing PJ on the way.
"G-Good morning," I fake smile. I need to at least get him to stop hating me.
"Hm," he answers, at least acknowledging my existence.
I get to the guest room and try to find an outfit that is at least presentable. Knowing the Devil Divas, they'd probably make me dress with "more fashion", something I'll most likely never understand due to my love for oversized hoodies and sweatpants.
I look through the closet that I organized with clothes.
I see a few items of clothes that might work.
As much as I didn't like it, I would have to wear one.
I lay them all out on the bed.
Dresses and skirts
My worst enemy.
Some short, some long.
I push away the shorter skirts and dresses. Those are too dangerous to wear.
I am left with a few choices. One casual dress and two skirts. I didn't own that many dresses anyway.
I try on the dress first which was a simple lavender sweater dress.
It reached the knee which was my bottom line. It also had a nice turtle neck which would keep me warm. It was soft and comfortable.
I try on another one. A black skirt with a gold heart belt.
It also reached the knee and was relatively flowy. However, as much as I liked the dress, I didn't have any shirts that would fit that well.
I sigh and look at my last choice. A shiny gold skirt. It has a flashy and bold fashion statement, something the Devil Divas are known for.
'Might work...'
I look through my rack of clothes and find a white v neck shirt and a black leather jacket.
I hold it together in front of myself and stand in front of the mirror.
It doesn't look good but it's not bad either. The outfit would probably look better on other people though.
Knowing that I don't have much of a choice, I take my clothes to the bathroom and do my morning routine.
When I finish, I walk downstairs to the kitchen. Mr. Ink, Mr. Error, and Cil are talking while PJ is on his phone. PJ and Cil are still eating breakfast while Mr. Ink and Mr. Error are sipping their coffee.
I sit down and everyone except PJ greets me with a good morning. I say it back and they continue their discussion.
In the corner of my eye, I see PJ glance at me and Cil tugging on his brother's sleeve with a muffled giggle.
"What? No, I don't..." PJ huffs quietly, with a magenta flush on his face.
"Yes, you are~"Cil teases him.
I try not to eavesdrop and get back to minding my own business.
On the plate in front of me are two pieces of French toast, a sunny side up egg, two pieces of bacon, and a small cup of strawberries and blueberries.
"T-Thank you for the b-breakfast, M-Mr. Ink and M-Mr. Error."
"It's nothing, (Y/N)." Mr. Ink replies.
I pick up a fork and eating.
I finish my breakfast in no time and excuse myself from the table. I ask them if I could go out and they said yes.
Because my outfit doesn't have pockets, I have to go upstairs and find a purse.
I dig through my closet for a little while and find a black Kate Spade crossbody purse with a gold chain. It was a gift from Mom when I was 14. I cherished the gift because my mom had used it before me and it was in perfect condition.
I take my phone, a copy of the house key, a wallet, and a few other essentials in case of emergencies. Then I prop my headphones on my shoulders and leave my room.
I go back downstairs to see everyone chilling in the living room. I put on my black sneakers (that I'm not sure how well it fits my look but screw it) and wave to everyone before leaving the house.
I check my phone. It's already 11:00. I have an hour to spare and I know exactly where I'll go.
I put my headphones on my ears and start listening to some music. An energetic pop song comes but and I couldn't help but change my walking speed to the beat. On an occasion, I would skip to the rhythm like an excited little girl going to the park.
I finally arrive at my destination and stop to take in my surroundings.
The same old cherry blossom tree.
But since it's autumn, the once sakura pink flowers changed into a beautiful shade of orange.
I climb onto one of the shorter branches of the tree, trying not to lift my skirt. When I get myself situated, I close my eyes.
I don't sleep but I relax for a bit.
Out of nowhere, I get a text from Bunny in the Devil Divas group chat that scared the soul out of my body.
Bunny:
Where should I pick you up, (Y/N)?
Me:
Hmm, how about the park near the school? I'm near there.
Bunny:
Sure, I'll be there at 12 on the dot.
See ya!
I look at the time.
11:55
Time really does pass quickly, doesn't it?
I sigh and gently slide off the tree branch and onto the ground.
I start jogging since I only have 5 minutes to get to the park.
When I get to the park, I only had to wait 30 seconds until her car pulled over.
It was a silver Lexus Sc 430. Kind of old but still stylish.
"Get in loser, we're going shopping!" she hollers and I quickly jump in the car.
~A/N~
I'm guessing that everyone agrees with me that you don't like dresses and skirts but love hoodies and sweatpants.
