"Evie as you know she was a preemie. She's doing pretty well, but she is still preemie," Thorn told Evie who just nodded while still trying to process everything that happened. "Can I see her," Evie asked her friends as she was desperate to see her baby.
"Well you should probably wait for a doctor to clear you first. You did just have a really hard birth. Oh and um one other thing," Thorn quickly told Evie as she could see how worried and anxious Evie was to see her baby, but what Evie also didn't know was that she didn't just have one baby.
"What other thing! What's going on!" Evie quickly panicked out as she was being given no information on her baby and that was making her more worried then she already was. "Well you see princess," Uma began but was cut off when the door opened as the doctor came in wanting to check up on Evie.
"Ah Miss Queen, I see you finally woke up. How are you feeling?" The doctor asked Evie who just pushed away her feelings of pain as she just looked at the doctor. Everything felt like it was on fire right now, but Evie grew up on the Isle some pain never really stopped her from doing what she wanted and right now that was to see her baby.
"I'm good a little sore, but nothing I can't manage," Evie told the doctor, just hoping to get the clear, so she could go to the NICU and see her baby. The doctor just smiled as she found it amazing that Evie had gone through that rough of a delivery and managed to only be in a little bit of pain especially considering how young she was.
"Well that's amazing news. Typically when women have as rough of a delivery as you did especially with multiples at the same time they are in immense amounts of pain. It's good to see that you are recovering well. It's definitely not easy giving birth to three at the same time," the doctor told Evie, making her freeze up as she couldn't tell if she had heard that correctly.
"I'm sorry did you say three at the same time!" Evie practically screamed out as she had not been informed about that information and the last ultrasound she had been to did not show that either.
"That's the other thing we wanted to talk about," both Uma and Thorn said at the same time as they could see their friend was in complete shock right now.
"I had triplets?" Evie asked as she was still trying to process everything she was being told. The doctor just smiled again as she finished up examining Evie.
"You did, it seems you had some little trouble makers in there. Normally we can always catch multiples on ultrasound but it seems your little ones are sneakier than most," the doctor told Evie making her just slowly nod as she was still trying to take in everything.
"I have to take care of 3 babies at the same time! How am I supposed to do that and I only have one name picked out! What am I supposed to do right now! I prepared for one baby, not three! Oh gosh what if I can't handle it and I end up killing one! Oh my gosh I would never forgive myself!" Evie rambled out as she began to panic.
"Shh princess, it's okay. You have plenty of people who are gonna help you. Besides, you're gonna be a great mom. Trust me you're not even going to get close to hurting one," Uma told Evie who just smiled a little as she started to calm down.
She was still completely freaking out, but she was more calm now then she was before. "Okay yeah you're right. Sorry I just...I wasn't really expecting this. Anyway can I see them now," Evie asked the others, making the doctor smile a little as she knew Evie was hurting right now and just wanted to meet her babies.
"Oh right! Yes of course you can! You seem to be recovering well and I don't believe there are any issues. Follow me. I'll take you to see them. Remember they are still going to be very vulnerable right now so you are going to need to be very careful," the doctor told Evie who just nodded as she followed the doctor to the NICU to see her babies for the first time.
While the others left deciding to let Evie have bonding time with her babies as they couldn't go to the NICU yet to see them anyway.
As soon as Evie entered the NICU she was met with the sight of her three tiny babies all in their separate tiny incubators making Evie cry as she couldn't hold back her emotions seeing her tiny babies for the first time and just seeing how vulnerable and sick they looked.
Evie couldn't believe this was really happening right now. She was 16 with 3 preemie NICU babies. In which she was completely unprepared for.
"They're so tiny," Evie told the NICU worker who just gave her a small smile as she nodded. "They are aren't they, but they're little fighters," the NICU worker told Evie who just nodded as she looked at her 3 tiny babies again.
"How long do they have to stay here for," Evie asked, making the nurse sigh as she knew this was hard for any parent but it was especially hard for a child like Evie.
"Well that depends on how they respond to treatment and help," the nurse told Evie who just nodded again.
"Why do they have all those wires and tubes," Evie asked as she had never seen a NICU before or really been to a hospital before today and preemies born on the Isle just had to survive off what they had.
The nurse just smiled again as she could tell Evie was just trying to learn about her babies. "Well they have those wires and tubes to help them breathe, eat, regulate, and just to help them grow and get healthy, so they can go home someday," the NICU nurse told Evie who just slowly nodded again.
"So they have to stay here," Evie asked the nurse again who nodded. "Yeah that's how they get better so they can go home with you someday," the nurse told Evie who nodded again as she didn't really know what to say.
This was all so hard to process. She was trying to stay strong but that was hard right now. She had 3 very vulnerable and tiny babies covered in wires and tubes and she can't even stay with her babies who need her.
"Am I allowed to see them," Evie asked the nurse who just laughed. "Of course you can! You can come see them everyday if you want to," the nurse told Evie who smiled a little.
"Okay good because I'm coming every day. I don't even care about school," Evie told the nurse as she grabbed a chair and sat down by the three incubators so she could be close to her 3 babies.
"Don't worry babies, you're gonna get better soon and then we'll be a happy family together. But you have to promise me you're gonna fight. We don't give up in this family okay. We're strong people!" Evie told her three babies in her best encouraging voice as she knew this was going to be a hard few months but she needs to be strong for them.
