Small, and fragile. A small baby girl with fringed hair cried, cried out for a mother that wasn't there. She laid in the hands of an older boy, a boy with similar fiery red hair. His shaking hands cradled the small girl as if his life depended on it, he store down at the baby as a small smile crept onto his face. Soft hushes escaped his lips as tears streamed down his pale face.
"It's okay Amber, hush now...mother will be home soon."
The pencil snapped in two, as it was pressed ever so roughly onto the slim paper. The tiniest of groans escaped Amberson's lips as her eyes moved away from the pencil and towards the bed, there a woman laid with dark brown hair. Her face ghastly as her body unmoving, her bony hands grasped onto the bedsheets as the slightest intakes of breath could be heard. The young girl stood up quickly knocking the chair back in the process, her body moved swiftly to get to her mother. Her mother. Fernanda. Once an image of beauty, now shattered and distraught.
Yells echoed room 850, the yells where escaping an older woman. Who was laying on the thick mattress with her legs parted and eyes squinted in pain, "onc-once it happens. Get rid of the monster," spoke Fernanda to her shaken son. Jacob nodded as he let out a small sob, it wasn't right to tell a child so young to kill someone who would be considered family.
"Mama! Mama no, please stop it." Amberson cried as her hands desperately shook her mother's shoulders. As a wave of panic overtook the eleven year old, she moved away from the ill woman and towards the door. Never go outside...Ambersons one friend and brother was currently at school the girl took it upon herself to find medicine. After ten years of being labeled as a waste of space, worthless, and a monster the girl wanted to prove herself as more. Maybe finding her brother was the best option, she didn't know otherwise.
"Look at the bunny Amber,"
"Hop! Hop!"
"Hop is right, the bunny goes Hop."
"One day I️ will be a brave bunny."
"Yes... One day you'll hop free...one day."
Light feet patter was heard down the hall, as a petite body turned down different corners. Unsure of where to go or where the long empty halls would take her, in the far distance she heard chatter. Chatter that used to scare her, chatter that would mean the difference between being found and death. Now, all she wanted was to save the women who had given birth to her. As Amberson got closer to the chatter she recognized it to be children talking, Jacob. The girl let out a sigh of relief, noticing that the chances of finding her brother where incredibly slim.
The three year old waddled around the room, giggles escaping her mouth. The giggles seemed to bounce off the walls, and lighten the mood. To her left sat a women with a bottle in her hand, and to her right laid a boy with a pencil and some paper. The boy, Jacob, looked down at his sister and rolled off the bed bending down to his sisters height. "Hey you...stop running about so much you might break something-" He started before a loud cracking sound hit the floor. The three year old began to wail not liking the sudden sound. Jacob looked at his mother, dark red blood seeped from her hands as the bottle laid in shatters at her feet. The woman stood up and pointed at Amberson, "I️ told you to keep her quiet. For gods sake, y-you should've done it...you should've killed her....now because of you she'll life a life of hiding, she'll hate you when she's older." She spoke with an angry hiss.
As if everything moved in slow motion, the screams and panic to get back into room 850. The screams that would later be screams of someone being sent to their death, the screams of a child who would become homeless. Jacob held his baby sister his once nicely ironed suit now wrinkled as he held his younger sister in his arms, Amberson eyes widened as she heard the yells of guards behind them. "I'm sorry," she whispered over the chaos burying her small head into her brothers neck.
The red head was older, it was her eighth birthday and she was celebrating it by hiding under the blankets. Her brother had skillfully cut out a hole in the mattress perfect for her to fit in. The girl laid underneath as she bit her lower lip to stop herself from crying, too young to understand the world on the Ark. too young to know that her mother and brother would be killed if the guards had found her.
"Blow our your candle...Amber," Jacob spoke resting his arm around his baby sisters shoulder. "Don't forget to make a wish," he added quickly a grin on his face. Amberson puckered her lips as she blew out a "candle" with no light, imaginary. No cake. Nothing. The girl looked at her older brother, "want to know my wishes....I️ wish one day we can all live together like a normal family ...I️ wish that mother will be happy...I️ wish that we will all be safe, I️ finally wish that...I️ wish that...I️ wish to see the rabbits, hold a rabbit." The girl sighed dreamily. Jacob let out the softest of laughs, he was defiantly one to admire. "Sadly I️ can only promise one of those will come true. I️ promise that we will all be safe, me and mom...we will be beside you forever. Never forget that,"
Ambers eyes flew open as she was ripped from her brothers arms, "no! No let me go!" She screamed out shocking the man who was grasping her ever so harshly. The girl mouth opened in horror as her brother was pushed to the ground, room 850s door was now wide open. Her mother was laying on the side of the bed unaware, she looked worst than earlier. Fernanda finally was grabbed, and a yelp of surprise escaped her lips. Jacob struggled in the grips of his captor, "leave her alone." He grunted angrily. Amber yelled as if there was no tomorrow, she couldn't help it as the cold truth entered her mind.
"I️ love you Jacob,"
"I️ love you too Amber,"
The nineteen year old stood bravely, as a large door separated him and his family. In his eyes everything seemed a blur, through tears he could see a crying child and a mother on her knees shaking and deathly. "No you promised Jacob! You promised!" Amber yelled from behind the glass door, Jacob offered her a sad smile. "Amber...." he started before he felt a strong darkness envelope him, a soft peace washed over his body as the dark space took him. From across the glass screeches erupted, as the Ambersons body went limp her body slumping foreword.
Her teacher, her brother, her mentor, her savior...was gone. She'd never see his smile again, never hear his voice, or feel his warm hugs. As if a humans life wasn't worth anything, it had been gone before it even had a start. Ambersons mind raced as her mother was pushed into the death chamber, "look." A voice whispered into her ear. Amberson shook her head as she heard another scream and then silence.
"Why is my middle name Jyotsna?"
"Because it means little flame, that's what your are a spark of light with hope for the future."
