Appearance: Onyx has hurricane-gray skin and a light-hazel nose, as well as (purposefully) scruffy midnight-black hair with bangs that cover one of his silver-blue eyes (which turn gold-red when he's enraged). He's a little tall for a Troll and has a slim build, along with speaking in an English accent.

In 2D media, Onyx has one blue eye (the one usually covered by his bangs) and one silver eye.

His usual attire consists of a black jacket over a gray long-sleeve shirt (a plain black roll-cuff shirt when handling dirty work), as well as simple black pants, black buckle boots (gray work boots for dirty work), a pair of dark-blue knit fingerless gloves (though he often swaps them for fingered deerskin-leather ones when he needs to handle some dirty work), and silver-grey goggles.

Personality: Onyx is a very withdrawn, well-read, and enigmatic Troll who presents himself as formal and polite yet cold and aloof. Underneath this exterior, however, he's quite caring and sensitive.

That said, his personality still has some shades of darkness to it, as anyone who's ever threatened Ophelia around him has quickly found out.

Aside from his royally refined manners, quite a few of Onyx's traits are rather contradictory to his status as royalty, as he has few to no qualms with getting his hands dirty (in fact, he could actually be called something of a workaholic) and frequently feels uncomfortable with the spotlight landed on him (often to the point of actively trying to avoid it).

History: Growing up in the Isles of Darkness, Onyx had quite a few tutors and was given several lessons every day, including Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays, when he was also sent out to dress and work like a serf (the Goth Trolls prefer that term over "peasant") because "a ruler must understand the lives of their subjects." Onyx's birthdays were always treated like ordinary days to prevent him from becoming spoiled and egotistical ("A ruler should never consider themselves better than the Trolls over whom they rule").

One day, everything would change, as Queen Umbra, having been informed about TrollsTopia, decided to send Ophelia as an Ambassador. Onyx, not wanting his little sister to be harmed on the way there, volunteered to accompany her.

Relationships: Ophelia- Shortly after Ophelia was born, Onyx curiously went up to the new baby's room, quietly scooped her out of her crib, and started holding her. Once he saw her eyes open as she awoke from her nap with a smile, he experienced changes similar to what Val had described in "Girls' Night" and started holding his new baby sister closer for a hug. This is what unlocked Onyx's soft side.

Lownote Jones- Onyx, along with Ophelia, first met the Funk Troll ambassador after rescuing him (along with Synth and Dante) from getting cooked and eaten by Barnald. The two Goth Trolls initially had a hard time trusting Lownote due to his suave voice reminding them of Chaz, but they were nonetheless willing to help him return to TrollsTopia (partially because he and Ophelia were still on their way there at the time). They both came to trust the cool Funk Troll when he and Onyx started bonding over the science of alchemy.

Onyx also considers Lownote to be one of the most charming and confident Trolls he knows (along with Synth).

Guy Diamond- They may both be gray Trolls (though Guy's more silver) with geologically-themed names, but the similarities pretty much end there. Guy's enthusiasm for helping/getting other Trolls to shine leads him to frequently thrust the withdrawn Goth Troll into the spotlight, and he fails to understand Onyx's aversion to it (not to mention his preference for manual work).

Meanwhile, Onyx knows that Guy means well, but the Glitter Troll's vanity and flair for the spotlight tends to leave the Goth prince rather flustered and chagrined. That said, he's perfectly willing to babysit Tiny if ever asked.

Branch- He and Onyx quickly noticed their shared intelligence, moodiness, and sense of humor.

Dante Crescendo- The shy Goth prince's etiquette (and being a "fellow older brother") quickly appealed him to the Classical ambassador.

Chaz- During their journey to TrollsTopia, Chaz invited the royal Goth siblings to camp out with him after they'd gotten lost. They only accepted the offer due to seeing few alternatives (and hearing Chaz's hypnotic tunes), but then he tried to take advantage of Ophelia.

Petra- When they first met at one of Petra's concerts, she initially mistook Onyx for another Hard Rock Troll (and might've flirtatiously complimented his hair). She was still friendly with him after learning otherwise.

Skills & Abilities: He has most Troll abilities, as well as the abilities of his Tribe.

His presence in a certain region also seems to extend that area's autumnal season.

Music- Onyx can play the piano and acoustic guitar. Val (or Lownote) might also teach him electric/bass guitar. Also, despite claiming to be "not the dancing type," Onyx has actually received several lessons in ballroom dancing. He's much better with a partner, though.

Socialization- The shy Goth prince has been known to be rather socially awkward, especially with his weird-sounding compliments ("Is that your hair or a bunch of silk that's somehow growing out of your head?") and his difficulty taking compliments. That being said, he'll still willingly engage in his friends' activities.

Leadership- Despite his typical social awkwardness, years of grooming to be the future ruler of his tribe has allowed Onyx to enter "leader mode," where he exhibits immense eloquence and charisma.

Games- Despite being a natural at Glitterball (which reminds him of hunting), Onyx also has a reputation for taking chess way too seriously, seeing it as a "miniature battlefield."

He also loves jump rope, bowling, and Rocker Ball (having played games similar to the latter two throughout childhood).

Poetry- One of Onyx's main talents is writing poems, which (according to Val) also make great song lyrics. Actually reciting these poems, however, is an entirely different story.

Intelligence- Between him and Ophelia, Onyx can easily be described as the brains of the duo, being rather cunning and often spending his time reading, writing, and studying.

Alchemy- He also knows a variety of formulas for different potions and powders, including a Sleeping Powder (made with crushed Lovender) that was used to rescue Synth, Dante, and Lownote.

Cooking/Baking- During his and Ophelia's journey to TrollsTopia, Onyx prepared all their meals. He can also do desserts (and rather creative ones at that), but he always has Ophelia taste-test them.

Sewing- Due to experience with mending Ophelia's dolls and dresses, Onyx is rather skilled with a threaded needle and quite knowledgeable about different kinds of fabrics and stitches. That being said, he lacks Satin and Chenille's flair for fashion and saves his skills for repairs. He also (secretly) hand-sews Snuggle Toys for Techno and Classical children who were affected by Queen Barb's siege on their respective homes.

Child Minding- Sure, Onyx isn't the kind of Troll who goes out of his way to play with youngsters, but he does care greatly about the safety and well-being of babies and children. He also has some added experience of having helped to care for Ophelia when she was a baby.

Makeup- He's had plenty of practice on Ophelia.

Medical Status and Issues: Onyx is a rather young and fit Troll, keeping himself active through parkour, predator-fighting, manual labour, and Glitterball. However, he's fructose-intolerant (meaning that he can't stomach refined sugar) and has dandruff in his hair. He's also quite reliant on Energy Elixirs to avoid dozing off.

Allergies- Onyx is allergic to Grumble Weeds, Kitty Critters, licorice, and mold.

Mental Issues- He might or might not have persistent depressive disorder.

Etymology: Onyx is a kind of mineral (chalcedony) that comes in a vast variety of colors, most famously black.

Trivia: -Onyx gets nauseous rather easily, mainly from eating any overly sugary desserts (most often one of Pop origin), nervousness from having to perform in front of others, or getting motion sickness from riding the Metroll (he really isn't used to rollercoasters).

-His vomit always looks like a mix of dark matter and sludge (which is typical for Goth Trolls).

-He might have globophobia and/or coulrophobia (due to having grown up hearing a story about a clown who replaced their hecklers' internal organs with balloons) and definitely has glossophobia.

-He can't whistle.

-He tucks his bangs out of his face whenever he opens up to someone, but they tend to droop back in when something sets off his shyness.

-He likes the burning soreness felt in the body after exercising; it helps distract him from his "more stress-inducing thoughts."

-Whenever he uses a ranged weapon or puts on his goggles, Onyx always moves his bangs out of his face.

-He's very prone to blushing, whether it's from anger, flattery, embarrassment, or just getting flustered.
