Backstory

Mason never knew his family. the captain of the ship, who had taken him in, told  him that they had found him in a house in a village that had recently been abandoned. he grew up a pirate, the captain of the ship being like the father who had abandoned him. when the captain died, Mason became the captain of the ship. he soon gave it up to someone who he thought was more suitable, but he still helped run the ship. 

The ring that Mason wears belonged to the first captain before he died. when he was dying, he gave the ring to Mason.
