Nerina's family owned a fishing company, so she grew up sailing. her dad died one day during an accident where the fishing equipment smashed through the boat and sunk it, drowning everyone on board. since then, her mother became abusive so Nerina decided to go on a 'fishing trip' with her little sister, and never returned home. they became pirates and Nerina is the captain of her ship. her and her sister, Merna, are very close.
